i have an amp (sony xm 2002gtr) that says it requires 4 gauge wire..but they cost $100+ and i have plenty of 8 gauge wires. can i use two 8 gauge wires as a substitute for one 4 gauge wire?and also, i have my capacitor grounded to unpainted metal of my car AND the ground port of my amp..is that incorrect?
Two 8-gauge wires combined are equal to a 5-gauge wire, but that should be close enough for that amp. Make sure each wire has its own fuse near the battery; 40-amp fuses would be a good choice. If you capacitor is connected to ground, and your amp is grounded, then you don't really need a wire between the capacitor's ground terminal and the amp's ground terminal. It doesn't hurt anything, though. If the only ground wire at the amp is the one that runs to the capacitor, then you're better off connecting the amp ground directly to chassis metal.
need to know how to properly wire this amp in a truck
wow I have never heard of this amp until u mentioned it. the ratings seem good. ur best option would be to call sonic electronics have them send you a manual on how to wire this amp. they sell this amp. I mean u ask how to properly wire it. wire it to get power ? or to the woofers ? red wire + goes to your battery. black wire - goes to your ground (not your battery) to the frame of ur vehicle. then u need a blue wire, your remote this wire goes to ur stereo's remote wire it should be the same color or it will be marked. but if u do not know how to hook up an amplifier u should go to a professional shop due to the fact if u improperly hook ur amp up YOU CAN START A FIRE IN YOUR CAR.
I just bought a remote starter/keyless entry/alarm system, i'm looking to install it myself... I'm just wondering what gauge wire that most cars use.I'm assuming power wires are lower gauge then others, Could I use 16 gauge for power lines or would i need something larger? Thanks in advanced.
Depends on the amperage draw, for a stater wire most cars use a #12 THHN copper wire #16 would be used for speaker wire #14 is used for dome lights temp gages oil gauge and so on headlight wires use #12 wire STARTER to battery wire uses #6 wire taillights and turn signals use #14 Computer wires use #16 or #18 gauge wire as for the power wire if it has a fuse make sure the fuse will blow before the wire burns threw so if it's a 20 amp fuse fast blow use #12 copper if it's a 30 amp fuse use use a #10 wire. My fog lights I put in my truck uses a 40 amp fuse so I put in a # 8 copper wire for them. Hope this helps and gives you a guide of what wire to use.
I have a Escort 8500 x50 that I want to use in my 04' Chevy Trailblazer, I bought the hard wire kit, but which is the quot;positive ignition wire?It already includes the T-Tap I just don't know which wire to tap into! Any Help would be great!
The positive wire should be red and the ground black. You should tap into a wire that is ignition hot. Meaning it only has power when the ignition is on so it won't run down the battery. The easiest one to use would be the accessory port on the fuse panel. The ground needs to go to any good metal part. Find a screw that is in a large metal part, like the dash support, and wire it under the screw.
i have a 92 saturn and bought the wire harness, i put all the wires together and all that turned on was the theft light that comes on when you take off the face after that i tried putting the red and yellow wires together and it worked, just without the key having to be in the ignition and i think that is why the stereo gets so hot so can youall tell me how to wire it correctly?
The red is the main power or acc power that comes on when car key is turned. The yeallow is for the memory for radio. Another word when u store a preset radio station that yellow wire supplies continues power to store mem for ever or untill u have to change batt. The reason y it worked when u hooked yellow and red to gether is they where both getting power. If one dosent get power it will no work. Check radio fuses for the yellow wire to see if it out. If u have manuel to car that would help. I had a mustang that with the yellow wire was dead i traced the wire tried to find the prob but could not. I ran a wire from batt to radio where the yellow wire hooked up. That is the same thing just try to keep the wire away from hot areas and door jams try to runn it through the firewall of the car.
So on my ceiling fan I have a white, black, green, and blue wire. In the ceiling I have a green, white, black, red, and bronze wire. What gets connected to what? Thanks for the help!

I got the Rem wire down connected it to cd deck. But what does Rem stand for and what does it do?Remote Wire? what the hell it do where it run off?
The Remote wire is a wire (usually Blue or Blue/White) that comes out the rear of the Head Unit (CD Player) that supplies a +12V output when the Headunit is powered up and switches off when the Headunit is powered down. Some head units have a Remote and System Remote, in this type of system the system remote is as described and the Remote switches on and off when you switch between Radio and CD, this feed is usually used for an electric antenna or to power a booster.. -Daz

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/awmrK It might help if you told us what brand the harness is. Also the writing might not be great, but really you'd have to be pretty dim to not understand it, stay in school, you need it.
