FAQ

My kitchen has an engineered wood floor that needs to be replaced. It was is glued to my concrete subfloor. There is no underlayment -- it's just glued to the subfloor. From repairing the floor I know that when you remove the planks, chunks (not huge, but still very noticeable) of the subfloor come up with the planks due to the glue, leaving the floor unlevel and with varying texture. I don't want to go through the hassle and mess of having someone remove the wood floor, and then sand down and/or use a self-leveling material on the subfloor before putting a new floor down. I'm thinking that the existing floor is already a smooth surface. Can I just put a new floor over it? To avoid removing the existing floor I'm happy to put down any type of new floor that will work (linoleum, laminate, wood, tile). Please help! Thanks
yes ..before you get started look to see if the extra height of the floor gets in the way of other things like doors or floor vents .base board heaters.. i have been laying floors since 1971 ..good luck
I am planning to install engineer wood floor over concrete in Corona, California without the moisture barrier. Anyone here done the same with no problem? thanks.
Many of the wood flooring adhesives for concrete have a built in moisture resistance. Of course you should always use the adhesive recommended by the manufacture of the wood that you are installing. Or as was mentioned you can float the wood flooring. UA wood is a great floor for that, because it is single planks and looks like a standard floor once it is installed and you can install a plastic barrier very easily. We have sold many of these floors in CA with no call backs.
Is it safe to burn engineered hardwood flooring?
it should be fine, most resins thes day and coating are none toxic. they dont allow to sell them anymore because of the ozone. it doesnt have lead in it like it used too. if your cold- burn it!!
I would like to remove my carpet and get a nice tough wood flooring.
The most durable - tough flooring is either maple or oak - very durable - in terms of engineered flooring - I just put in a composite flooring that had a 1/8 thick hardwood veneer on a plywood base - prefinished. It went in great. 7 wide x 84 long pieces - tongue and groove - Good luck
Shop wood flooring home but very fragile. The family kept a puppy in the above pee pee I want to disinfect with Walch can? Specifically how to use? Trouble point!
Room humidity is too large to keep the floor dry, clean, daily use of clean dry cotton mops wipe: in case of stubborn stains. Then twist dry wipe cotton mop should use neutral cleaning solvents after cleaning, do not use acid and alkaline solvent or organic solvent such as gasoline scrub.
I have a second floor condo with a plywood sub floor. It is cheaper to go with the nail down installation instead of the glue down. I'm wondering what the benefits/disadvantages are with these installations.THX!
you glue and screw, don't use nails on a floor!
So I've been considering to get rid of my old carpet floor and install new hardwood flooring. I just get lost in the research from learning about the different types? I'm reading about engineered wood flooring and it looks like a good match. Does anyone have any personal experience from using it?Thanks.
Yes, I fitted some oak engineered wood to our hallway a few years ago. It is fairly easy to do for a competent DIYer (me), and quite attractive. Far superior to that plastic covered cardboard known as laminate. I had just one issue:- The main watercock for the house is under the front of the hallway but I solved the problem of accessing it by fitting a couple of brass pull-up rings into the wood in that area.
