Q:What do you think is the best flooring for the living room? What kind of flooring do they use for school gyms? (kind of like wood with lacquer on it). What kind of flooring is the most durable?
There is no best flooring. Choosing one is always a balancing act between price, looks, cost of installation, difficulty of maintenance, whether or not it will ever need refinishing, and comfort. School gym floors are probably maple or another hardwood, with varnish on them. More maintenance than concrete, but wood is softer and better for the kind of activities that take place in a gym. Tile, concrete, stone, and similar materials are the most durable though some woods come close.
Q:Will laying one layer over another be bad? I'm worried that the flue from the previous flooring will make the floor uneven. Thoughts or advice?
that is not recommend at all...tear it up and start over
Q:I want to buy a steam mop to clean my laminate floors, but am afraid that the moisture may hurt the laminate. Please advice, thank you
All floors that use steam mops must be sealed. When in doubt don't do it.
Q:Is it possible to lay the slot together fake wooden floor that you can buy in packs over carpet? Were in military housing so we can't change the carpets but would love some of that flooring in my room. Thanks
you can't put anything over carpet, bc flooring has to have a flat, level surface. If you could rip the carpet out, you could put anything down. Your only alternative will be area rugs over that carpet. sorry
Q:i have a floor that is in an older house that would like to tile. Unfortunately, it has a swell in the center of about two inches from when the house settled. Does anyone know of a commercial levelling product i can just trowel on to level the floor so the tile will lay flat? The ease of use is a big factor, i like things simple. Thanks.
As mentioned by Reno, a pourable self-leveling material offers the easiest solution. However if your 2 inch estimate is correct, it may exceed the allowable thickness recommended by the manufacturer. The cost may also be extensive. If the floor is accessible underneath I would investigate the reason for such a great amount of settling. It may be fixable from underneath. We all like things easy but take the time to do it right or the problem will only get bigger.
Q:How to clean the wood floor is the best cleaning
My family directly with a broom sweep, and then drag a mop on it, solid wood flooring playing wax, strengthen the floor generally do not need, personal opinion, for reference only
Q:how do you take up linoleum on a wood floor with out damaging the wood
a flat bar and hammer
Q:I am looking for the strongest, fastest setting glue that will bond to both wood and concrete sub-floors. Thanks to all who answer.
Titebond Tongue & Groove Flooring is suppose to work well for laminate floors. Do a little research to be sure the type of flooring you have needs glue.
Q:My new house has blonde floating floors and I have no idea how to maintain them. My family doesn't eat or drink outside of the kitchen and we typically take off our shoes at the door. I have a shorthaired little dog who isn't going to be very happy when I try to put doggy house slippers on him because I'm so worried about scratching the floor. I'm OCD; it'd drive me crazy! I ll be using protectors under all furniture. What type of cleaner would one use weekly or biweekly for thorough cleaning on this kind of floor? Is it ok to use a Swiffer spray? I detest vinegar. Can I cover the Swiffer with a dryer sheet or will that coat the floor? Thanks
The floating part means they are not glued down. They are usually installed over concrete or wood sub-floors [supporting floor]. First a thin underlayment is placed directly on the sub-floor, could be thin foam. Then the strips of wood interlock and are laid down, cut and trimmed to fit. Finally baseboard is fitted where it meets the wall to finish the project. If yours is blond, one of the most popular and eco-friendly is bamboo. The bamboo is covered with a durable epoxy or resin to give the shine. Cleaning: First sweep or vacuum up loose dirt, dog hair etc. Then damp [not wet] mop with a laminate and wood floor cleaner. I use one made by Zep. But look for a product that indicates it is suitable for wood and laminate floors. NEVER immerse the floor with water or liquid. Don't spill the cleaner on the floor and wipe it around. Apply the floor cleaner to a sponge mop or similar, then apply to the floor. It is ok to apply the cleaner from a spray applicator directly onto the floor then mop it. The biggest enemy of floating wood/laminate flooring is water leaks like a dishwasher overflowing, washer overflowing. It is generally not used in bathrooms or places where there is a high likelihood of water spills. The underside is generally not sealed and the product absorbs water, then expands and buckles.
Q:Hi, I have floor seats to a sold out concert, and my friends and I are in row 23, and I really want to be as close to the stage as possible. How does that work? Do they make you stay in your seats until the concert starts, then everyone runs up, or do people line up across the stage as soon as they get there?. I've never had floor seats, so I'm really excited =]
usually floor 'seats' are just standing room. I've gotten floor tickets before and they have a row on them some times, idk why. If it's any kind of rock concert on the floor then it's standing room. You might want to check out the venue online and look at a seating chart though. It will not be you sit in seats then run up to the floor. It will also not be lining up in rows on the floor. If you have floor tickets, you stand wherever you can. My advise is to get there early so you can be closer to the stage.
