FAQ

i‘ve seen an episode of two guys garage about a ram air intake for a honda civic. it looks like an intercooler. does anyone know where i can find this episode or find the part? thanks.
Superstreet actually tested this intake on 2 cars in one session a 00 SI civic and a 99 EX civic. on both cars the HP gain was around 2-3 and the torque actually lost. If you want a cold air go with AEM they have the best all around gains PERIOD. They average 6-9 HP on most cars.
Is this cold air intake too good to be true?
Ok Ill tell yea the facts. Its not stolen. Its not cheap. Its a peice of crap. IT IS NOT A COLD AIR INTAKE! What you are looking at my friend is a SHORT RAM INTAKE. It will increase your pony power by like 3-4 more than your stock, but youll have to put up with a VERY NOISE engine (It dose sound cool though when you first start your car but drive your car around for 20 minutes and it gets old and anoying fast). Alot of people call them cold air intakes but a real cold air intake DOSE NOT COLLECT AIR FROM THE ENGINE BAY- (think about it the air in your engine bay is HOT) Cold air intakes out sorce to collect air from a air pocket or infront of your radiator, air thats comming from out side the car not already in. The reason its so cheap is cause all it is a pipe and a air filter. You can make them your self for under 20 bucks. And a warning if you chose to get one beware of water. Short ram intakes make it super easy to get water in your engine. If you want more pony power cheap go grab a performance chip. Also you can make a cold air intake yourself by finding a air pocket (i slightly losened my high beams and modified my intake to reach it) ((it was called the bfi intake for my car)).
is air forced into a engine or is air sucked into a engine?i was givin the answer but i want to hear what others think.
This Site Might Help You. RE: Brake Horsepower VS Horsepower VS Wheel Horsepower? Tell me all about them. I know that wheel HP is the power at your wheels. But is brake HP like the power at the flywheel? And if so is it before or after all the loss from things like the alternator, power steering pump, AC etc. thanks:)
I‘m trying to get my old carborated truck to get better gas mileage. They don‘t make a cold air intake for it so I figured I‘d make my own! What would be about equivalent to the fan in one of those?
Yes you can. They are both W203 cars so it will work
I have a 1999 F150 with the 4.6 i want to put a cold air intake on but do i need a custom tune before i do so? if i dont get the custom tune and still put the cold air intake on will it cause my engine to run rich or lean?
I'm not aware of any need to get a specific tune for a cold air intake. Since the nature of AIR can be COLD or WARM - even HOT, I'm sure the computer will figure all that out on its own. Your intake should consist of a MAS (Mass Airflow Sensor) which measures the amount of air the engine is ingesting. Based on that information the computer will set the amount of fuel injected into the engine. As the engine burns the fuel / air mixture, some unburnt oxygen will go out the exhaust. The O2 sensor measures the amount of unburnt oxygen and makes further refinements to the fuel / air mixture to optimize fuel economy AND pollution control. So I don't think your engine will run Rich OR Lean. Should be business as usual. Good luck. :)
whats the difference between ram air intake and cold air intake?
Short ram intakes are on the top of the engine bay Cold air intakes are down lower most commonly under the headlights or in similar areas where there is often some metal to be cut out. Short rams have the advantages of not getting wet if you go down a flooded street and they are easier to install, cheaper and weigh less.
K so i have 1 problem. My car is 2005 Honda Civic LX (manual) the air intake brand is Spyder and its for 01-04 Honda Civic DX, now im wandering if this air intake will work on my car.
I would not suggest getting it. There could be critical differences between the one you need and the one you are looking at. I would suggest making sure that you get one for a 05.
I‘m getting a 2006 Pontiac G6. I love the car, except for the fact that it has a 4 cylinder. I‘m considering putting a cold air intake on it or something to boost the horsepower a little. I‘d just like something to enhance the performance, and frankly I don‘t know a ton about cars in general. Leave intelligent comments please
For all the hype, cold air intakes are a relic of the carbureted cars in the 60s and 70s. The air intake in those days was almost always at the top of the engine, where the air was downright hot. Bringing in cold air from outside the engine compartment was a big improvement. Since the 1980s virtually all cars have intakes that bring in cold air from outside anyway, except when warming up. During that time they bring in air from around the forward exhaust to speed the engine warm-up, which reduces overall emissions and improving fuel economy. both things dear to the hearts of bureaucrats. In addition, the upgraded intakes had low restriction air filters, which reduced the tendency of carburetors to run richer as the flow increased and the filter acted like a choke. Modern fuel injected engines really don't care about the filter restriction, which only makes a difference for the few seconds every once in a while that the engine is running at full throttle and high rpm. At any other time the throttle plate is far more restrictive than the intake - there is no improvement at all from a CAI. In short, the intake that is on the car is the best.
