- Don't ever use mop and go type cleaners on your laminate floor. They build up a dull residue with time. Don't use any wax on your floor -- this doesn't work for Laminate. Pergo makes a spray cleaner (hard surface cleaner) that is perfect for cleaning your floor. Mohawk and Armstrong also make comparable products. I have also had a lot of success with an Orange-Glow product in a spray bottle that I get at Target. DO NOT USE the resurfacer in this line -- it is only good for hardwood floors. The cleaner is perfect and comes with a special mop that shines the laminate really nicely.

- A few years ago I had laminate floors installed in my house because I thought it was just the thing because I had dogs who had accidents. WRONG! We always cleaned up right after an accident, and tried putting puppy pads down and everything. After a while the floor started buckling and discoloring. I had the floor company come out and look at it and they said it was because the moisture got between the planks and got under the flooring. My floor was ruined and could not be repaired. All of the laminate flooring had to be replaced. Now, I have a nice vinyl type floor and have not had any problems. SO be careful with your floors. - The company is local to where I live, so I don't know it's availabilty if you live outside the Bay Area. If you are going the DIY route I STRONGLY recommend getting the floating/click installation versus the glue down/nail down product. The floating stuff does cost more (for example, usually starts at about a $1 more a sqaure foot), but renting nailing equipment and buying adhesive is also expensive. We spent about $300 on flooring glue (Bostik's Best) for a 210 sq. foot room. In comparison, foam padding and plastic sheeting for a floating floor of the same size would be around $70. The floating (engineered) pieces are also about 3X the size of the hardwood planks, so that really works out to be about half the time cutting and laying the product. If you are putting bamboo in the kitchen area, you may want to consider a laminate that has a bamboo pattern due to water damage potential. I don't think hardwood is really recommended in the kitchen/bathroom areas. If you are looking for a sustainable option for the kitchen, Forbo Marmoleum(natural linoluem, versus the vinyl sheeting that most homes have) is plant based and carries something like a 40 year warranty. The prices tend to be $4-$6 a square foot, so comparable to bamboo . I recently saw that Armstrong carries a natural linoleum product that I think is suitable for kitchens. I think their website says that is available at Home Depot and Lowe's, among other places.

- Help? I have just moved into a realtivly new 4 bed house @ 9 years old. The main bedroom floor is very very creaky more so than i remember when we went to view. The main bedroom is the worst. My best guss is there is about 5mm gap between the tongue and grove floor boards and the joists in this room.My sons bedrooms are ok. Is there any fix for this?
