Q:Okay here's the scoop. My wife recently talked me into purchasing a 8 by 10 $600 throw rug for our living room. She said it would look nice when guests come over and it does. The carpet has a lot of light colors in it as well as some dark and here is where the problem is... I want to roll up the carpet so it's against the wall when its just regular everyday traffic and roll it out only when we have guests. My thinking is there's less chance of it getting spoiled andd it would extend the life of the carpet My wife thinks I'm crazy!!!!!!!!!!!$: Yes, you are being overprotective but its understandable. You don't want the rug to get spoiled and the best way to ensure that is to use it minimally. BUT. Its your home. And if you buy something to make your home look better, you're doing that so YOU can live in a better, prettier home :) the rug isn't there for your guests to appreciate it, it's there for you to appreciate it :) so maybe you should just leave it there and not roll it up and put it away'

Q:My wife and I have a 5' X 7' area rug which we want to dye brown. It's a deep pile wool rug and the fibers are dense. How does one go about this? We would have it done professionally but there are no skilled people where we live. Any help would be greatly appreciated.: We hired a company that specializes in dyeing rugs. They have all the equipment needs and know the correct dyes to use.

Q:So, I've seen on the internet about these rugs that is practically all you need all year round. It consists of 3 layers: a protective sheet, an outer shell and a reversible quilted blanket. I have only seen a few of these on the internet and none in the UK. Do you think these would be worth investing in? And would I be able to find them in the UK?Thanks in advance (: xo: I've seen them advertised in the UK but off hand can't remember where - Rideway? Derby House? IIRC they are expensive. You could probably use three equivalent rugs and pay less for them but they wouldn't match prettily. Depends whether you want economy or looks. On the basis that two or three thin layers are warmer than one thick one they should be a good idea. However, I don't have direct experience of this 3 in 1 rug. I've been at it for long enough to prefer economy as long as the performance is satisfactory. Along with others at the yard I use a Morrison's First Home duvet as an under layer indoors when it's very cold.

Q:How can I get it out? Tea leaves bad stains doesn't it?: If it does stain I suggest a steam cleaner to get it out... It worked for me

Q:appropriately enuff my mom gave me an area rug and she smokes, so does everyone else around her, we don't smoke at my house...febreeze only makes a quot;freshquot; smokey sicko nasty smell.: if you can, hang it outside over a fence or put some chairs together so you can drape it over them and leave it outside all day and night...weather permitting of course. while it is outside take a broom and smack the rug in as many places as you can get too. when you take it back in try sprinkling baking soda on the back and sweep it into the backing. leave it on there for about 1/2 hour then vacuum, turn the rug and do the same thing to the front. baking soda is a neutralizer so it should help. have you tried spraying it with oust? maybe try that while it is outside too. i don't know if i would spray the front if it is a dark color but i would over spray the back. good luck! Q:I have heard that cleaning a carpet with a quot;carpet cleanerquot; can actually harm the carpet. How do I clean my carpet, which is brand new, without harming it? I heard you have to put scotch guard or something on it.....idk please help! Thanks!: My partner and I run a successful Carpet Steam Cleaning business and have heard every rumor going over the years. First a professional Steam Cleaner that knows what he is doing will never 'ruin' your carpet. Many less professional cleaners may not re-extract all of the detergent out of the carpet correctly and as these detergents are designed to attract dirt you end up with what is called 'resoling' with the carpet getting dirtier much faster than before but this in itself does not damage any of the fibers nor is it dangerous to any children or pets and much more likely to occur with a hired machine as the vacuum is usually not strong enough. However we have received many calls over the years by people who have incorrectly used hired machines and permanently damaged their carpets (Usually water related damage) in the process. Personally I wouldn't let one of those machines anywhere near my carpet they run too cold and have limited suction Call in a professional it's like comparing a moped to Harley Davidson Do not attempt to scotch guard your carpet yourself this really does need to be done by a professional (Most Carpet Cleaning Companies will do it for an extra fee) The scotch guarding itself is not difficult or dangerous however it needs to be done immediately after a professional clean. It works by creating a protective membrane on the surface of the carpet to prevent dirt from getting through but it works both ways any dirt still in the carpet cannot get out after application until it wears off in 3-4 years time In most Countries the local health authorities recommend getting the carpets cleaned Once or Twice a year

Q:My landlord is finally replacing the carpet in my apt. But he's not going to pay to have it installed. It's not my responsibility to pay it's his responsibility to pay for the carpet and installation right.: carpet is not a legal requirement. If he tells the carpet company to lay in, not install it, this is exactly what they will do. He does not have to have it installed if he does not want to, it is his carpet.
