- Q: There two different places in the house that have had candle wax spilled on the carpets - Berber carpet and Mini Shag carpet
- Getting candle wax on your carpet may seem like a nightmare and a hassle to remove, but it is incredibly easy. Follow these simple steps to a candle wax free carpet. Things You’ll Need: Dishtowel Rubbing Alcohol Plastic baggie filled with ice Step1 Place a dishtowel on top of the candle wax. Step2 Place the plastic baggie that is filled with ice on top of the dishtowel. Step3 Leave on for a few minutes until the ice freezes the candle wax. Step4 Pick off the frozen candle wax pieces off of the carpet. Step5 Lightly dampen the thin dishtowel with rubbing alcohol and go over the spot if there is any little left over pieces or residue remaining on the carpet.

- Q: I have been looking in stores and the only ones I have found were ones that were really elaborate and I want more of a simple one. What is a good place to find area rugs. I dont want one from online.
- Hi there, What kind of rugs are you looking for? Besides size and patterns, also think about the use for it.. Machine-made area rugs are for example a lot cheaper, but the quality is a lot less then with for example a hand-knotted rug or tufted one. If you plan to place your area rug in a place with high traffic, considder more a hand-knotted rug or a tufted rug. If it's for a bedroom, a machine rug would be fine. Now-a-days, all types of area rugs come in all kinds of patterns (or one solid color if desired), so focus more on what type of area rug you're looking for, what the budget is you like to spend on it and how long you would like to keep it. If you plan to make this a one-time purchase, do not buy a machine made rug, but if you just like a rug that will last you for a few years, it might do. I suggest to go to a local area rug dealer and explain them what you're looking for. Prices vary a lot from $80,- to $80.000 and even more! So there will always be something for you to be found. Below I have included a link with some tips to keep in mind before buying a rug. Hopefully they'll help out. Happy rug hunting! ;o)
- Q: I need to patch a section of my carpet. The size I need to patch is 2 feet by 1 1/2 feet. I will be patching just a few inches from the wall/front door. Here's my questions:1. Will the patch job be noticeable at all or will it blend in to the other carpet? 2. Will the replaced carpet piece be loose or need stretched? 3. What if the carpet I am patching doesn't exactly match because my current carpet is used and the patch will be brand new? I've never done this before so any advice for a first timer would be awesome! Thanks!
- Here's my experience. As a landlord I've gone thru every type of carpeting and finally got so mad I ordered that short nap nylon/plastic stuff. I had it glued down. I figured no one could do anything to that carpeting. Well, the daughter dropped and left an iron and melted the carpet. I hired professionals to come take a piece out of the back of the closet to switch places. Does it show? Absolutely because of the lack of nap and they didn't take care to cut all the shreds from the outside edges. In other words-even if they had done a good job it would have shown. I have better business carpeting and they butt the ends up to each other and it's fairly hard to tell. So if you have nap, you'll be able to pull it off. It will wear soon enough. I would glue the edges and glue the piece so that it doesn't move. Be sure to match any design and direction and be careful to leave all the nap you can around the edges so you can brush it together. Since you're piece is so much bigger, it should be harder to tell. Lots of luck. And, oh yea, if you can take the piece from the closet, do that. It will have faded more than the new and put the new in the closet.
- Q: I have a brand new rug that is less than a week old. Every time I lift it up and sweep I have piles of white fine powder. That,s at least 3 times a day. Does anyone know what this is. I 'm thinking of taking it back.
- This exact same thing happened to me but it was from a rug I owned for about 7 years when the white powder began to collect under that rug. I shop at many stores, so I do not recall where I purchased the rug. So, I called a local rug store and they told me that the bottom of the rug was dry rotting and disintegrating, causing the powdery substance to shed from the bottom of the rug. If I were you, I would positively return the rug because if you are anything like me, it will drive you nuts until you finally toss the rug.
- Q: I have installed carpet by myself in two different rooms with nothing more than a razor blade. However, the room I intend to carpet next is a little bit larger and I will have to seam the carpet. I've never had to do that before. What equipment is absolutely necessary? Is doing the seam easy?
- You will need a carpet iron. I don't suggest trying this yourself as it takes some practice and is easy to screw up.
- Q: The carpets in a house we placed an offer on are ick. Well they don't smell and most of the stains I think will clean out but they eventually need to be replaced. But due to other costs we have to address first we want to clean them. Is calling a professional steam cleaner the best way to go? Does steam cleaning really do a good job? We have shampood carpets before with horrible results.
- You can get a professional to clean them. My brother used to clean carpets and I worked with him one day and this one house had the biggest transformation. Made a really big difference. I like using my parent's carpet cleaning machine on my floors, but you said that you didn't have good results when you tried it before.
- Q: I have carpet beetles. Will carpet cleaning kill them? If not, what should I do to get rid of them that is pet friendly.
- I have had a major problem with black and variated carpet beetles and no matter what I did, they kept coming back! I don't want to buy bug spray because I have a 6 month old boy. Recently I went on a whim and started spraying down the baseboards with colgate pro health mouth wash since someone told me it works for bugs and then I did an experiment. I found a beetle escaping running across the kitchen floor so I sprayed him and he was running, running, running then fell over dead! I decided to add some lavender oil drops to the mix to make it smell nice. Then, I was cleaning the bedroom and I had found a carpet beetle larvae out of its hiding spot so I took it and put it into an empty container and sprayed it with mouth wash and took it out right away on a dry piece of paper and only after a few seconds, it was dead. Try mouth wash. So far it seems to be an effective way of killing them- all life stages. Since the stuff doesnt have alcohol and if you spray the baseboards only, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't make a pool of it.
- Q: You know how bathroom rugs frequently have rubber backing on them? I was to know if there is a way to reapply the rubber backing which has fallen off and cracked due to age. The top of the rug is fine.
- If you can t get the rubber backing to hold I have a suggestion.. Take it off completely and get a rubberized anti slip backing you can get at any place that sells rugs etc.You can get them in many sizes and cut to size.. They won t stain vinyl flooring like some rubber backed rugs can.. When they lose their tackiness you wash them in washer GL
- Q: I have horses aswell, and we always put rugs on them to suit the weather conditions, but never put any rugs on the donkeys. Their coat is thick, but would getting them a rug still be a good idea to keep them warm? Its snowing where I live at the minute, and its meant to be getting even colder soon!
- I agree with Janian. They shouldn't need a rug. Donkeys (and horses) can handle cold just fine. What they can't handle is a combination of wet and windy. Then they might need a waterproof blanket, but they should have a shelter to stay dry in anyway. A blanket can actually make them colder by pushing down the fluffy hair, which is meant to insulate them from the cold.
