- Q:I have never purchased new carpet and do not know where to begin. What type of carpet is best for high traffic areas? This will be in our living room. Thanks for the input!
- It really depends on what you're looking for. Berber's do snag easily and I don't recommend them, and there are many that are expensive. A thick plush with an upgraded pad works/looks great. A medium color that will hide stains (traffic foot prints) is also better, as apposed to light or to dark and they show everything. A good installer will also make it or break it on how long even the most expensive carpets last. Make sure if your room is to large for the roll of carpet that they put the Seams out of high traffic areas. And taking care of the carpet will also make it last longer.
- Q:I bought this cool wool runner rug at a consignment shop. It is possibly a blended wool with some brown cotton type thread woven in it that extends thoughout and the remains of the thread is the knotted fringes at the end.

- Kick your daughter out. Don't think there is much you can do unless you have a off cut off of the carpet. Then you can cut out where your knees have burnt the carpet oh sorry i mean the iron, then cut a piece out of the off cut of the carpet then patch it as this is what i had done before and you couldn't notice it that much but that maybe because a friend did mine but he is a carpet fitter..

- Q:We have our carpet cleaned once a year and after 6 months all the stains are back. A carpet cleaner told me if it was cleaned properly the stains wouldn't return. My carpet is a type of berber, but not the good berber. I have always used steam cleaning. My question is would a chem clean be better. Another carpet place told me probably the stains were down in the pad. Is there a cleaning that would go deep into the pad otherwise I am faced with getting 1200 yards of new carpet. You imput would be greatly appreciated.
- my husband lays flooring and just said that once it hits the pad, there's no return. sorry but you are faced with new carpet. good news is, if you live around ga....he may be able to help you out. lol. j/k......try the car cleaning stuff called purple power. i used to detail cars and we used that on the carpet and always has clean brand new looking results. it will no fade or dicolor your carpet either. just go to auto zone and gets some. it' worth a try.
- Q:There two different places in the house that have had candle wax spilled on the carpets - Berber carpet and Mini Shag carpet
- The best way I have found is to do the following: Remove the chunks of wax and as much as you can with your fingers. You may use ice as the others have suggested for this step. Heat your iron on a NON steam setting but pretty hot. Lay a paper bag over the wax spots and iron them. You may have to do this several times with clean paper but the iron melts the wax and the paper absorbs some of it.
- Q:My cat has torn up a couple of sections of the carpet in my apartment. I went to Lowe's hardware and they have the carpet I need in stock. However, I keep getting the runaround about what I need and what I need to know to get what I need. I was told that I need to find out how my carpets are installed. - I've had to repair construction damaged carpet in several houses - here's how I went at it. Go to a carpet store and ask for carpet tape - a wide version of duct tape. You should be able to get it as single sided or double sided tape. Take a piece of carpeting identical to the carpeting you have to replace, cut it large enough to replace the damaged section, and lay the new piece over the old. Keep in mind that the carpet has a grain or pattern to it, and in some types of carpet the direction of grain is quite pronounced - so make sure you match the direction of the grain to the original carpet. You may find it easiest to cut the carpeting patch from the back side, or use a knife with a blade designed to cut carpeting (see the carpet store again). As best you can, brush the shag pile on the existing carpet away from the line where you intend to cut it - it'll make cutting easier and the pile will hide the patch when the pile is brushed back into place. Hold the patch in place while you cut through damaged carpet, using the patch as a template. If you're uncertain, make the hole in the original carpet a little small and trim the patch to fit. Once the patch fits the hole in the original carpet, use the tape to fasten the patch to the original carpet (and to the floor if two sided). Get the cat de-clawed. ;-) Good luck with it.

- Rugs, like lumber are dimensional. They can run in sizes from 7 foot 6 inches to 8foot on one side to 11 ft 6 inches on the long side. They are not always a true 8 foot by 12 foot. Each company will have different sizes but can say it 8x12. You ll have to pick a rug and measure to be sure. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL

- Q:Just a simple question is there any carpet cleaner thats okay for ferrets the room my ferrets play in i rearranged and was gonna clean the carpet. But i know ferrets use smell as one of there main senses so i didn't wanna clean it with something to strong any suggestions? is there a specific safe for ferrets carpet cleaner or is just regular carpet cleaner safe. - Bissell makes a Pet formula for steam extracting machines. It is about $20 and it smells great. I have 3 cats and a dog. I use it with my steamer a lot.
