Q:I am trying to be as 'green' as possible while decorating my house. In addition, I love the look of textured, natural stuff. I looked at the sisal and bamboo rugs, but with small children on the floor all the time - they just are too rough. Is there anything else out there?
I'm sure there are many other places with other sizes and colors as well.
Q:We have very nice new wood floors. I have a rug and I need to put a carpet pad under it. Is there a particular kind of carpet pad I should use? I'm afraid it will damage the wood floors somehow. I bought a carpet pad that is like a rubbery grid, just afraid to use it!
Carefully, with the flat edge of a screwdriver, lift the staple straight up, and see if it will come up in one move. If it doesn't, carefully lift the edge which will come up, and pull the rest of the staples up with those long thin pliers. They are near the edges of the room, aren't they? Do they have thin boards attached to some ends? We took about two days to do this with a rowhouse in Baltimore, and once we got the hang of the long flat headed screwdriver, and the delicate pliers, we were set to go. We also did have to remove these plywood type rulers set near the corners of the room. Once we polished, the staple marks weren't noticeable at all.
Q:I went to a heritage craft festival last year, and there was a lady making rugs. It was at a Colonial period mansion, and she said the rugs were found in the storage of the family, and never finished. So she was using similar materials, and following the pattern to finish them. I guess it was rug hooking, but I don't remember her calling it that. She would take a very thick piece of wool and pull it through the backing to make a little loop, then, on the same piece of wool, just make a loop in the next hole, no knots, no cut pieces..she said the fabric was so tight and the wool so thick that it would hold it in, and eventually the bottom would become felt from walking on it (she showed me the older portions of the piece). Is that the same as regular modern rug hooking? it doesn't seem like it...does anyone know if this sounds right? does anyone rug hook like this? Thanks!
If this an high priced purchase and you're questioning of keepin this rug for a protracted time, think of roughly your furniture. Will you opt to alter up that room in some years? if so, %. the rug which will strengthen with you and your loved ones. If that may no longer an high priced purchase or you could cope with to pay for to purchase a clean rug each and every so usually, then bypass with what you quite like. area rugs are an incredible thank you to alter the topic of the room without changing hundreds of dollars worth a furniture. solid success.
Q:I've been window shopping for a rug online :) Has anyone got a Caribu at all? what do you think of the quality? Any rug that I like is atleast $300... but thats a bit pricey. I just cant believe the jump in price of everything since I last had a horse. She had a good quality lined canvas rug that I paid no more than $100 brand new and it lasted her yrs and yrs I think it was a Weatherbeeta and I sure wish I still had it now!
Weatherbeeta, Rambo and Rhino are all good. My personal favorite is Rider's International though. I work at a stable so I'm constantly putting on and taking off blankets. Not only does tha tbrand never seem to rip, but they are really easy to use and I think they are much cheaper than most other brands which is very nice.
Q:This rug is on a hardwood floor and I'm not sure how to clean it without taking a chance of doing damage to the floor underneath it. The rug has never been cleaned before. Thanks
You're not going to be able to clean it with water ... just won't work with the hardwood underneath. Lowe's carries a product called Capture and it's in the tile and flooring department here. It's a powdered rug cleaner product and you use it along with a spray bottle of cleaner. First you mist a section of the carpet lightly. Next sprinkle the Capture powder evenly over that part of the rug using the sifter that comes in the package. Brush it in thoroughly.Continue this way until the entire rug has been cleaned. Let it completely dry for a few hours and vacuum your rug to get the powder out. I have used it on wall to wall carpeting and also on an oriental rug. It costs about $20 - $25 for both the spray and the powder (sold separately). Even though you are lightly spraying the liquid, I still would be very cautious not to get any of it on the hardwood - maybe put layers of newspapers around the edges of your rug. If you have a concrete driveway, I would recommend taking it outdoors on a nice day to clean it. Your only other alternative would be to send it out to a rug cleaning company and that is often mega bucks. Good luck !
Q:What's the living room carpet for?
1, warmth: carpet on the ground cooling has obstructing effect. At the same time can also play a role in saving indoor air-conditioning energy;2, walking comfort: walking on the carpet will make people feel comfortable and leisurely, reduce fatigue;3, sound absorption and noise insulation: carpet and other ground materials, compared with a good sound-absorbing effect, to absorb telephone and other noise, is to become quiet at home;
Q:Candle wax has dripped onto our carpet and we need a way of removing it without destroying the carpet.
place a brown paper bag over the wax and iron it. The hot iron will melt the wax and the paper bag will absorb. Works great.
Q:I have pets. Is it okay to have a solid floor, like tile or terrazo, on my living room floor and just put a big rug on it instead of carpet? Do you thik that will hurt the resale value of the home?
Carpet is a matter of taste. In many cases there is a allowance given by the seller of a home to a buyer for carpet. Very seldom does a buyer keep the carpets installed by I seller. I've even seen a seller install new carpet just to have the buyer rip it all out before they move in. Save your money and buy a through rug.
Q:I have been looking in stores and the only ones I have found were ones that were really elaborate and I want more of a simple one. What is a good place to find area rugs. I dont want one from online.
Hi there, What kind of rugs are you looking for? Besides size and patterns, also think about the use for it.. Machine-made area rugs are for example a lot cheaper, but the quality is a lot less then with for example a hand-knotted rug or tufted one. If you plan to place your area rug in a place with high traffic, considder more a hand-knotted rug or a tufted rug. If it's for a bedroom, a machine rug would be fine. Now-a-days, all types of area rugs come in all kinds of patterns (or one solid color if desired), so focus more on what type of area rug you're looking for, what the budget is you like to spend on it and how long you would like to keep it. If you plan to make this a one-time purchase, do not buy a machine made rug, but if you just like a rug that will last you for a few years, it might do. I suggest to go to a local area rug dealer and explain them what you're looking for. Prices vary a lot from $80,- to $80.000 and even more! So there will always be something for you to be found. Below I have included a link with some tips to keep in mind before buying a rug. Hopefully they'll help out. Happy rug hunting! ;o)
Q:Me couple of friends are looking to get carpet to do up a quot;cubby housequot;. Crap carpet seems to be 90 to 100 dollars per broadloom metre new. Obviously it does not have to very good quality. Is there any wayyy cheaper solution to this? (South of Perth, Western Australia)
