Q: Anyone know of a website that I could view carpet designs, get the pricing per square foot, and perhaps even an estimate on installation?: Look at Lowe's or Home Depot or google some local carpet stores. By the way, nylon carpet is cheapest, but wool lasts the longest and remains plushy longest. To tell how well the carpet will stand up, bend the sample and look at how close together the loops are. The closer, the better.

Also if you guys have any tips on carpet shampooing that would be great also !!!thanks !!!: Rent a rug Dr. and a bottle of steam cleaner solution. Put some(1/4 cup) Dawn Dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle with water and pretreat all the heavily soiled areas first. You can even try isopropyl alcohol on tougher stains. Use steam cleaner solution and the hottest water and clean. You might have to do it twice. Do it one more time with 2 cups white vinegar and hot water. Lift up on the handle as you move backwards to get the best pickup possible. You will be surprised at what comes out of the carpet! The vinegar will remove any soap residue which actually attracts more dirt.

Q: I have just gotten a large area rug and Ihave put it on a bare floor. Do I need to put something under the rug. It is not slipping or anythhing.: They have non skid for carpets in the throw rug department at Kmart or Walmart. But you can use extra carpet padding and it improves the cushion of the carpeting a lot. Much more comfy. I just did it for a 5 by 7 in my entry way. It made a huge difference. See if you can get a piece the size you need from a carpet installer. The sponge will actually tape together with duck tape allowing you to use scraps.

Q: I'm getting new carpet put down in my room soon, but I'm very clumsy and I can't keep it clean. Is there some kind of carpet protector (much like a screen protector for a phone) that I can put over my new carpet?: some carpeting comes with a sheen kind of covering called Scotch Guard (it's nothing like plastic, it was sprayed on at the factory). Don't worry about keeping it spotless (just keep ink off of it, tar from your shoes, and paints and nail polish and nail polish remover, clorox, etc.) You can always spot clean a carpet, and you can always have guys come in and for around $40 a room they can steam clean that carpet. Maybe every few years or so.

Q: I have burns in my landlords carpet from cigarettes. How can I remove the burns short of replacing the carpet?: You can't actually get rid of the burns. The carpet where it is burned no longer exists, it's not like taking out a stain. What you could try is to find a remote spot of matching carpet, a closet or something, a place where it won't be noticed if you take a little sample of carpet. Cut out the area around the burn, an inch by inch section or so, and also cut a piece from the closet that is the exact same size. Replace the burnt piece with the closet piece. Some strong glue should hold it in place. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. That has worked for me though. Good luck.

Q: Romantic evening with a few melted candles knocked over, lol. So how do you get dried candle wax out of the carpet?: It is time consuming but it does work. The only way to get the dried wax up is to reheat it, so boil some water and pour it over the wax. Immediately start wipping it with a towel or something. It may take a couple of times, depending on how big the candle was. Use gloves because the carpet does hold the hot water pretty well.

Q: We are going to replace our flooring in the basement, it has very expensive cushony white carpet, and over the years with kids and dogs, it no longer looks white. Our basement is just under 1000 sq ft, and don't really feel like ripping all the carpet up. Its a very warm, dry basement, no dampness or leaks. So could I just put the laminate over this instead of using an underlay? Or is that just asking for trouble later on?: absolutely not! it will not lay evenly, if the carpet is dark dirty in spots you are trapping all that underneath ripping up carpet takes a day of labor, cutting in strips with a carpet knife makes it even faster

Q: Okay so If wanted to get rid of carpet stains from animal urine or say spilled drinks that are months old would baking soda work to get them out? My parents aren't too clean or careful and don't care much that the carpet is so messed up because they never have anyone over and are constantly worrying about other things. I can't rent any machines since I don't work lol I'm 15.. Thanks.Have a nice day(:: Sprinkle bicarb soda (baking powder) over the carpet and vacuum. The carpet will be cleaner and less smelly. Then treat the stains by rubbing the bicarb into the pile of the carpet and pouring a little white vinegar over the area. Allow to dry, then vacuum. You may have to repeat this process, but it does work. It is inexpensive and does not damage the carpet. I use this method on carpets (urine stains from an old cat) tapestry sofa and chairs and dining chairs which are antiques and it works every time.

Q: I need to replace my 45 year old carpet. It is showing it's age. But one thing that has never been done is having it re stretched. Not one wrinkle. It lays as flat and tight as the day it was put in. So this beings up the question. quot;Should a properly installed wall to wall carpet ever need to be re stretched?quot; I have noticed many carpets in newer homes that are all wrinkled. And many people I've talked with after installing carpet need to have it stretched again,sometimes more then twice. Is this an inherent problem with what the carpets are made of now days? By the way my carpet is wool.: Carpet restretching could be necessary from poor installation, the carpet not being stretched enough when it was installed, but it can also be caused by the carpet backing stretching. Carpet backing can stretch from being poorly made, or from humidity or temperature fluctuations. Sometimes even well made and properly installed carpet needs to be restretched. Sometimes poorly made and poorly installed carpet never needs to be restretched. Few carpets besides wool would last 45 years, congrats on keeping your carpet going for so long!
