- I live in Australia, Therefore to me floating a horse means transporting a horse to another place by float. Rugging a horse on a float really depends on the horse itself whether it sweats alot or gets nervous. I have one horse that sweats alot when on the float therefore on a hot day she goes without a rug, and on a cold day she just goes with a light cotton rug so she doesn't sweat. But my other horse doesn't sweat at all when on a float so on a hot day he would wear a cotton and on a warm day he would wear a kersy (fleecy rug). It really depends on what type of horse you have, if he is hot blooded and sweats alot or if he is a cold blooded horse. Hope this helped.

- It seems like braided rugs are pretty intuitive -- just braid and sew, and use your imagination. If you are afraid of goofing up, you could try doing coasters or placemats first. I don't think you need a class, but sometimes it's nice to do it with other people.

- Okay, I know you're not going to like this but, here goes... The only thing that I have ever seen work in an environment that you and your friends are about to put carpet through were custom fit quarter inch masonite panels which were duct taped to the baseboards and thresholds. And this is on construction sites with fewer people who are very mindful of other peoples work. It's hard enough to walk on a solid surface when drunk let alone a carpet covered with plastic, paper and/or cloth. If you do have a spill, more than likely, no one would know about it until the next day when the covering is removed. You would have a lot less food and drink spilled if you were to leave the carpet uncovered. That said..... Resign yourself to the possibility (probability) that you'll have to have the carpet professionally cleaned . How do you pay for that? Your guests can ante up a couple of bucks each as a cover charge. It's a pittance compared to tuition fees. Another way to look at it is, if you are renting and have placed a security deposit with your landlord and decide not to do anything about a stained carpet, how frugal do you think he or she will be with your money when contracting a carpet cleaner? Not! The way the economy is now you can probably get a pretty good deal. So get busy. Oh, and while getting your prices, you might want to ask which stains are the most difficult to remove. I know that candle wax is a tough one. One last thought. You may know or know of someone who has a carpet cleaner. See if you can borrow it for the evening. Have it set up and ready to go should there be an accident. I'd loan you mine but I'm over 30 and can't be trusted. Have fun and I hope I didn't sound too much like your father.

- Throw rug or a huge rug or wall-to-wall carpet? Ironing a rug may melt the fibers if it is a polyester fiber rug or carpet. I do not think that the iron with produce enough heat to reach the base of the rug fibers. IOW, not a good idea. What the linked sites recommend is steam cleaning, even a professional steam cleaning. Be sure to let the professional know your rugs have a flea infestation. The cost might be a couple hundred for a professional steam cleaning, but that is worth the cost to be rid of fleas . If you have small rugs you can run them through the a hot washer load, and depending on fabric, a dryer.

- Ollie has some nice areas rugs also (if you have that store in your area). Or, pull up the carpet if you have wood underneath. Our carpet was NASTY and we just pulled it up, but beware. It took us 2 solid weekends to pull up the carpet, take out the staples (thousands of them) and wash (3x) and map and glo (3x) the floors. They look good now, but it was a lot of work. Got rugs at Ollie's. Two similiar ones - same colors, different patterns. (Thanks to Yahoo.Answers!) Also, you can use vinegar to clean the carpets. We did that last year. Rent the rug doctor but use a vingear solution. I think 1 c white vinegar to 1 gallon of water. Good Luck!

- Flicking your cat and putting her in the bathroom wont help. Cats arn't able to connect being put in the bathroom with punishment for peeing. Instead schedule her/him for a vet appointment. If your cat can't control its bladder, there might be some other health problem causing that. Or, if your cat isnt fixed or neutered...that could be causing some frustrations instigated by the outside cats resulting in spraying. In the mean time, invest in a carpet shampooing vaccume. Instead of just steaming, they steam and shampoo and they even sell special pet oder/stain removing detergent to use in them. Then, get some baby gates from a friend (people love getting rid of them) and close off a few spaces for kitty until you figure out the problem. Good luck!

- Area rugs are meant to protect your floors from scratches and dents, although admittedly, keeping it in one place will eventually affect the color and sheen of your floors. It is good practice to move your area rug/s and furniture every 6 months to ensure your floors color evenly. Using a hardwood floor refresher kit like BonaKemi will help to restore it's luster. Depending on the finish used on your floor, you may need to avoid using any wax or oil-based cleaners. It would be good to check with the supplier or retailer of your floor on this one.
