FAQ

Hi, what is the difference between an Air pump and a Water pump. What are the functions of each? Does a tank filter come with an air pump? Is an Air pump or Water pump required?
If you have a water pump filter that hangs on the side of the tank you do not need an air pump alhtough I would have both. The water gets oxygen from being circulated. An air pump usually comes with a starter tank along with a air stone. This pump puts oxygen into the water for the fish which should be 1 fish per galllon.
The water pump gasket in my '98 Forester (130k) recently began to leak, and I will be replacing it in the next couple days. I noticed a stream of bubbles in my overflow container, though, and am wondering if it might be bad head gaskets making the air bubbles. The bubbles only appear after the engine is warmed up, like after a drive around town - there aren't any bubbles when the engine is cold.Is it possible that these air bubbles are coming from the leaking water pump? I hope so, because I'd much rather replace the pump than the head gaskets!
Yes it is from the leaky water pump. Because it is leaking it will most prob be sucking air. If it was a head gasket you would notice it when cold as well
I had my timing belt replaced @ 80k (now have 138k) and was told by new mechanic that the water pump was not replaced then. Do I need to have pump replaced? What will happen if I don't? Thx
water pump is usually replaced with the timing belt since it is easiest to get to when you are doing the timing belt. your water pump may go out on you tomorrow or last for another 300k miles, who knows. but with it not having been changed, you are still riding on a pump with 138k on it. lots of miles on that impeller. if it lasts, just have it changed next timing belt...which I would do @ around 160k miles ~ 80k is about right for a timing belt to last. civic water pumps are cheap...as are the timing belts.
Okay, the fan has the clutch unit on the front with the large nut attaching it to the water pump. Then 4 screws attach the pulley to the water pump as well. What's the best way to immobilize pulley/pump so I can get the fan blade clutch nut unscrewed? Can't hold onto the fan or clutch unit since it simply spins. Can't realy seem to hold onto the pulley either as it prefers to spin? Any suggested best ways?
can usually get 32mm wrench and hit it with hammer in opposite direction Has backwards threads If not get thick rag and real long big screwdriver and carefully pry against pully so it doesnt turn and hit wrench with hammer too loosen Or buy special bmw tools
im thinking about buying a 93 ford taurus for $950. the owner says it will probably need a new water pump and brakes in the near future. is it worth it? i dont know anything about cars!
if okorder for the water pump
How does a pump get water from a low low elevation to a higher elevation.
Natural okorder /
My car broke down yesterday and is waiting to be towed to the mechanic (2000 Dodge Neon). I'm pretty sure the Timing Belt broke, but my water pump was broken in the process and leaked out lots of water. Would the timing belt break the water pump when it snapped? Or does the broken water pump lead us to a different conclusion? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Also I was reading online today about interference engines, but couldn't find a list to verify if I have one of those or not. Anyone know? Thanks!
Timing belt replacement is a very tedious and expensive repair. It is better that when the mechanic changes your timing belt, he changes all the oil seals, timing and balance shaft belts, and the water pump. It is better to this all at once because if you only replace the timing belt, you may also have to replace the water pump in the near future, which is the same amount of labor time for the timing belt. This way all these part will have the same lifespan. If you timing belt broke, hope that your engine is not damaged.
i have an underground water tank, my jet pump went out again, got a new one, waiting for the guy to come install it. i got an old fashioned iron hand pump, for when the electric, or the pump goes out again, i can pump out water. got pipes, fittings, foot valve. i just dont know what kind of base to make ,to bolt pump to, over the pipe that will come out of the ground. any ideas?
you can make a wooden floor cover using a treated good lumber of 1 X 6 for the floor and 2 X 6 lumber for the floor joist. assemble the 2X6 lumber for the floor joist. depending on the top area of your water tank. arrange the floor joist at 0.60 meter spacing and 1.2 meter braces. after that, use 1X6 lumber as flooring with at least 2 cm spacing between lumber. as on the base of your pump, you can reinforce it by adding 2X6 braces. use a lug bolt depending on the size of the slot at the base of your pump then bolt it on top of the 1X6 flooring. its better if we can draw it here to make it easier to understand and explain i dont know if this can help much because we havent seen the actual situation of your tank and your pump.
