I have a 1999 Volkswagen Passat and the water pump seems to be leaking. The lower radiator hose has been replaced but it still leaks a fairly substantial amount. From what I can tell the pump is still doing its job but I'm losing coolant. Is there a way I can determine if i just need a new gasket or a new pump altogether without ripping the front end off? Any feedback is appreciated.
ALL VW's require NEW WATER PUMPS, and TIMING BELTS at 100k mile intervals except the VR6! your is either a 2.8 or a 1.8 TURBO engine! ONLY GENUINE VW COOLANT can be used in there! Use the BLAUFERGNUGEN website to purchase the WATER PUMP/TIMING BELT KITS! Or call 1-80-ALL-EURO or 1-800-ALL-AUDI THIS IS NOT A CHEVY CAVALIER! This is a REAL car with special needs! you cannot use VALVOLINE or PRESTONE in this car or you wil RUIN IT FOR YOURSELF! VW/AUDI engines require oil that meet the higher SPEC NUMBERS 502/505 oNLY! This means MOBIL ONE 0W-40 and a handful of others, like AMSOIL< PENTOSIN< the factory fill oil, or TOTAL ENERGY oil from France! PENNZOIL ULTRA EUROPEAN is very hard to find, but EXCEPTIONAL oil! Pennzoil makes the oil for FERRARI and the ULTRA series oil carries a 15 year 500k mile OIL WARRANTY! DO NOT SCRIMP On this car! If the engine overheats or melts inside you will be a VERY SORRY CAMPER :( IF your radiator hose was replaced I have a FELLING that you already used the WRONG COOLANT IN THERE !The factory coolant shoudl nearly last the lifetime of the car! If your hose EXPLODED than check your COOLING FAN SWITCH! WHICH ENGIEN DO YOU HAVE HERE? the TURBO engien is FANTASTIC but if you EVER USED VALVOLINE in it, expect to have melted CRANKCASE VENTILATION hoses and FILTHY throttle body and idle air control valve! HAVE THESE THINGS CLEANED UP! EXPECT to have a TIMNG BELT KIT installed at 100k miles along with a NEW PUMP! Be SURE you are getting a genuine HEPU brand water pump and NOTHING ELSE! These are words of WISDOM! The VW engine is capable of getting to 500k miles and MORE< or just to 120k miles IT IS UP TO YOU TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT FLUIDS and ALL VW/AUDI fluids come from PENTOSIN company! VALVOLINE will burn up your turbo and PRESTONE will eat holes in your GASKETS and rot RADIATOR HOSES and cause HEATER CORE LEAKS! GOOD LUCK!!
I have a 2005 Impala and it has been acting funny. Some morning the heat takes about 20 minutes to start working. The air conditoner has not came on once. The gage also takes awhile to start working and when it does it goes pass the halfway mark.I even notice when im sitting at a red light, i can feel the engine shaking a little. I have a appt to get it check and put on the machine tomorrow. I just want to go there with an idea of what the problem could be. Could this be a thermostat or water pump problem???? Help?
Do you see any leaks the Front of the Engine or Radiator Area? is the Coolant Mixture Correct? Low Cost, Replace the Thermostat. From the Shaking you could also be in need of a Good Tune-Up? Also after all that shaking you might want to check the motor Mounts to make sure they haven't Cracked.
I have a 1997 mercedes 320e and it is leaking very bad. I need a temporary fix for the water pump, so that I can take it to the repair shop that is 10 min. away.
fill the radiator and reservoir tank completely and leave the cap loose on the first click so the system doesn't build pressure drive to shop when least amount of traffic and weather is cooler
What does 'MCL' Unit stands for water pump. How can convert this Meter head of the pump. For example : 50 MCL to ------- MTR HEAD. What is the formula?
Maybe that's correct
quot;A tank has the shape of an inverted circular cone (point at the bottom) with height 10 feet and radius 4 feet. The tank is full of water. We pump out water (to a pipe at the top of the tank) until the water level is 5 feet from the bottom. The work W required to do this is given byquot;I know how to find it if it's a right circular cylinder, but how do I adjust for the changing area? Also would a and b = 0 and 5? Thanks ahead of time!
calculate the amount of water U start with by computing volume of cone: V = 1/3πr?h {r = 4', h = 10'} V = 0.333π(4)?(10) = 167.55 ft? calculate the amount of water remaining in cone after pumping is done: V = 0.333π(2)?(5) = 20.944 ft? calculate the volume of water pumped: 167.55 - 20.944 = 146.6 ft? 1 ft? of water weighs 62.4 lb, calculate weight of water removed: 146.6(62.4) = 9148 lbs The Center of Mass of the water in the cone (when h = 10') is at 1/4 of 10 ft = 2.5 ft high The Center of Mass of the water in the cone (when h = 5') is at 1/4 of 5 ft = 1.25 ft height The Center of C.of M. change = 1.25 + (2.5 - 1.25)/2 = 1.25+0.625 = 1.875 ft If we consider that the Center of Mass of the water removed was at 1.875 ft, All the water removed was then lifted an average of 10 - 1.875 = 8.125 ft Work done = W = (9148)(8.125) = 74,300 ft-lbs ANS
Im considering installing an electric water pump in my car and i dont know much about electric water pumps yet so if you could tolerate a couple of dumb questions....? are electric water pumps reliable enough to be put into a daily driver (i just used the meziere name as an example, its the only name i am familiar with in electric water pumps)? i realise what the engine is basically done if the water pump goes.... could a change this small ever show up on either mpg or hp readings for a 200hp v6? finally, if the electric water pump just isnt worth the reliability risk, would a water pump underdrive pully do (almost) the same job of freeing work from the engine without putting the motor in harms way? thanks!
Yes, Meziere makes a good pump although, I have a CSR on the 496ci in my Chevelle and it works great too! ADDED: Yes, I only drive this car 2 to 3 times a week.
I am having water shortage problems and wonder if there is more I can do to maintain the health of my pump motor , pressure switch , and diaphram tank , if I run one outlet in or out of house , it only takes another spigot being used or a toilet flush to cause the system to run dry .I then have to reprime pump to have water or pump will run dry until it overheats ,

we are trying to replace a water pump on our ford windstar mini van. my uncle cant figure it out and we can not get a manual until tomorrow. was wondering if anyone knew how. thanks
water pump are kind of difficult to replace you have to remove several parts to get to it. specially if is your uncle first time. my recommendation is if you want to do it yourself to save money, have some one (family member)that did it before, just in case. go to source i will post instructions look at Table of Contents or go all the way on the bottom of the page good luck
