- Q: I just bought a house and we have well water. When I went out to change the filter on the pump I noticed a valve leaking...I went to check on it and noticed it had two settings if you will. one says System and the other says by pass if I move the lever to system the leak stops, if I move it back to bypass the leak continues...question is which one should I have it set on and what is the purpose?
- Okay, Adam, we also have a well and just put in a new one. The setting that says System means that the water is running through the filter. The setting that says by pass means that the water is NOT running through the filter. You will have water either way in your house (or you should). It is just either, it is running through the filter, or it is not. I hope I have helped. gram
- Q: My mechanic doesn't get back in town until next week, and I'm struggling without my car. I don't really have any other options mechanic wise and I'm not dropping $1000 like meineke wants. How easy is it to follow the Haynes repair manuals or any other repair manuals? I have a 1996 dodge avenger and I need to replace my water pump. I know it's a time consuming task, but is it especially hard to replace it?
- Try another repair shop. I had my water pump replaced for about $300 and that included the pump and labor and a belt ... Meineke is pricey. You can do better pricewise... Ask around... neighbors... people at work... My water pump was under something else that also had to be taken ou to get to it... not a job I'd want to tackle.
- Q: What is the difference between a High Flow Water Pump, Heavy Duty Water Pump or and Electrical Water Pump for a street rod? I have a 77 Camaro with around 410hp with the factory A/C. The Camaro is stock as body, frame and interior. I want to enjoy the car vs racing it. I would like to go on trips to visit family out of town which is around 300 miles and be able to drive the car with out having over heating problems.
- the key to keeping a car cool isn't the size of rad but water flow and air flow.elec.are for race cars and cubic dollar cars stock works for me or aftermarket high flow.and good fan that pushes allot of air.
- Q: Does the IP55 indicate the lift on the water pump nameplate?
- IP55 refers to the level of protection
- Q: my car ran hot a few times, its a 2006 chevy impala LS with about 50k miles.I do alot of driving but never had a problem until now. I took it to get an oil change and they said that I need a new water pump. I really dont know what that means but im afraid to drive my car until i get a new pump. i called around a few auto places and no one has the part. I called the chevy dealer and they said part and labor is $600. any suggestions of other places i can check for the part? can i still drive my car in the mean time? is it safe?are water pumps usually that expensive?

- Q: How does a pump get water from a low low elevation to a higher elevation.
- The simplest form of water pump is a plastic spiral where the outermost spiral dips under the water and out as it rotates. The spiral can be driven by attached paddles if the water is flowing. As the water progresses down smaller spirals the pressure increases. The water exits through a rotating coupling at the centre of the spiral. A single stage pump can only raise water 15 feet (1 atmosphere) A windmill is a good example of a simple pump where a lever moves up and down, A valve closes at the bottom of a tube on the up stroke and raises the water by the length of the stroke. This water opens a second valve near the top of the tube as soon as the upstroke starts and the water is pushed up. This pump does not work by creating a vacuum. On the downstroke the upper valve closes due to the raised water pushing on it, and also due to its own weight, and the lower valve opens from the water below pushing on it as the cylinder descends. At the end of the downstroke the valve closes under its own weight and the weight of the water above it and the cycle repeats To raise water higher than 15 feet using a windmill, it is necessary to install a small tank at, say 14 feet, with a second lower and upper valve in a tube. The first stage pump fills the tank which the second stage pump then lifts another 15 feet, This process can be repeated until the water reaches the surface, but a bigger windmill will be needed to power multiple pumps
- Q: It DID start after the Water Pump was put on. And i have not yet been able to detect a vacuum leak. The quot;whistling noiseseems consistent with RPMs, and the quot;dieseling(run-on) stopped in all but a rapid succession of 5 quick ~1-minute start/stops when the engine was fully warmed.. then it minorly ran-on.Could i be driving myself nuts over a Water Pump sound, and if it IS a Water Pump bearing, do i need a new Water Pump?1984 Chevy Camaro. 2.8 V6 carb'd 165,000 miles Auto.
- one tell tale sign of a bad water pump bearing can be a sound like a jet engine, but there are other possibilities too, I take a 4 foot length of garden hose put one end on top of what ever bearing you want to check and stick the other end too your ear.a slight hum is a good bearing, noisy bearings are easy to diagnose this way. Just be careful, no loose clothing or long hair near spinning fan and belts, engine has to be running to hear bearing noises. As to the dieseling noises, this is your engine running backwards. this is extremely hard on an engine. Leave the car in gear then turn it off. if its a stick, put it in a high gear let the clutch out until motor stalls. However dieseling is usually related to timing and poor quality fuel. Change to chevron super unleaded, it has techron which will help clean out a dirty fuel system, your vehicle may have a out of time problem, and or tune up issues can cause this. get this fixed, the fuel milege will be a bit better, and your engine will not self destruct. If the noise is in the water pump then replace it. Sometimes a jet engine sound can also be present in the torque converter in a transmission (automatic only)
- Q: Water pump 50HZ impeller and 60HZ what is different, why not the same?
- 60Hz pump and 50Hz pump itself is not much difference, just that the motor speed, the rated speed is 3600 rpm, 1200 rpm, 1800 rpm, the latter is generally 3000, 1500, 1000 etc.. If it is to use the same pump, the difference is that the 60Hz motor pump flow is 50Hz, motor water pump flow of 1.2 times, the lift is 1.2*1.2=1.44 times, power is 1.2*1.2*1.2=1.728 times. So in the actual manufacture, especially some relatively large flow lift pumps, pump motor using 60Hz to use 50Hz thicker than the spindle motor of the pump impeller, the difference between the two, in addition to empty size shaft is different, what basically no difference. As for the data of package angle, the water conservancy models of different factories are different, but I don't know whether there is any difference between them. Most of them make no difference. However, if you want to use the 60Hz pump to achieve the same flow rate as the 50Hz pump, the impeller of the former should be cut to 0.833 times the size of the latter.
- Q: Replaced the water pump in my 89 f150 and now I have a pretty steady leak coming out. I don't know where the leak is coming from, but its running down the lower hose and dripping off it. I've replaced the lower hose and water pump, what could be causing this?
- could be anything, including loose lower radiator hose, backing plate for the waterpump(have gotten the things and the 2 bolts are loose and missing the gasket)get you a mirror and light, and start searching around it, did you do the thermostat?may have broken the housing, or pinched it.
- Q: It has a small leak that started this day and it has 60000 miles on it , also new or rebuilt . What is the appr. cost tohave a shop do it ?
- Question i have David is how mechanically inclined are you and a water pump is a mild intermediate job for a professional the book says 3.5 hours time plus parts
