Q:I have a high pile cut carpet. When I put a dime on the carpet the carpet is a little over the dime. I just bought a dyson and it seems to fray the edges of the carpet. Im trying to find a vacuum that has great suction but wont ruin my carpet. If you have a short shag Carpet what kind of vacuum do you use?andDoes anyone recomend a vacuum for my kind of carpet?thank you so much!!: Try using the wand with the floor attachment instead of the beater on the vacuum. (The bristles of the beater bar along with the high suction could fray the pile.) The wand of the Dyson seems to produce less suction force and shouldn't pull on the fibers as much. I'd suggest a vacuum that gives you more choice about the amount of suction -- something more than High/Low and Carpet/Smooth. I switched from a Dyson to a Miele a while ago because I have different pile levels, and wood and stone flooring. Always seemed like the Dyson was too strong or not strong enough. The Miele has like 5-6 settings plus variable beater bar height and strength. It uses bags (which I don't mind) so if you want a bagless, try one that that gives you more control options.

Soak spot immediately with soda and blot until the stain is gone. 2) Pet Urine on Carpets: Dab area with toweling to absorb as much as possible, wash spot with liquid dish detergent, and rinse with 1/2 cup vinegar diluted in 1 qt warm water. Lay towels or paper towels over the spot and weight down to absorb excess moisture. Let stand 4 to 6 hours, then remove toweling, brush up nap and allow to dry completely. Use an electric fan to speed drying. 3) Red wine stains can be removed from carpet by rubbing baking soda in and vacuuming. 4) Sprinkle cornstarch onto carpet, vacuum. 5) To remove grease spots from carpets, first sop up the liquid with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of baking soda into the spot. Let it absorb overnight. Next day, remove the excess and vacuum the area. 6) To remove grease spots from carpets, first absorb excess with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of corn starch into the spot. Let sit overnight, then vacuum. 7) Dry cornstarch sprinkled on rug and vacuumed. 8) Carpet Fresher 4 cups baking soda or cornstarch 35 drops Eucalyptus essential oil 30 drops Lavender essential oil 25 drops Rosewood essential oil or any combination of your favorite essentail oils Measure 4 cups of baking soda into a bowl, add essential oils. Break up any clumps that form, stir until well mixed. Before vacuuming sprinkle powder from a shaker type can or jar. Let it sit on the carpet for about 15 minutes then vacuum. 9) Herbal Carpet Freshener 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup lavender flowers Crush the lavender flowers to release their scent. Mix well with baking soda and sprinkle liberally on carpets. Vacuum after 30 minutes. 10) Sprinkle baking soda on carpets before vacuuming for a natural rug deodorizer

Q:I got nail polish all over my bedroom carpet and I need to get it out!!: Often nail polish on carpet is just on the very tips of the fibers. If this is the case you can just snip the polish off with sharp scissors. Just cut the very tips of the fibers. Work slowly. Don't cut a single millimeter more than you have to and pull up while cutting. This will help prevent divots in the carpet. Try your best to do just one or two fibers at a time...not a whole clump. This will work unless you have used nail polish remover and have worked the nail polish deeper into the carpet. Also...cutting the nail polish works on shag or plush carpet, but not Berber or loopy carpet. Good luck. -

Q:Should rugs only be used on wood floors?: Not tacky at all. I'm an HGTV addict. It's quite common for designers to use area rugs on top of wall-wall carpet to create 'areas'... and/or break up a large room into separate areas... For example use area rugs in a large multi function room to separate a dining area from the TV area. In fact, I have an area rug in my living room that sits between the sofa and the entertainment center. It add a beautiful pattern and pulls the room together.

Q:Is there a not too expensive way to pretreat really bad carpet stains before I use a before I go over the entire carpet with a steamclean pro home machine thanks: Depending on what the stain is and how long it's been there, start with a carpet cleaner, such as Woolite and spray it on, let it sit and then vacuum it off. If that doesn't work, rent a steam cleaner for the carpet and use the cleaner that comes with it. For everyday spills you catch right away, use soda water and blot out the stain.

Q:I purchased this house last year Sept. 17 2010. From day 1 I had severe problems. The ceilings in the back fell from a Norway rat eating the pipes. I did a mold test and Black Mold was a positive. The walls have been removed and replaced. The rat problem stopped after a Professional Trapper was hired. The house has been completed changed. All big mirrors are gone. That is were mold was too.
