Q: Little more info I was having a heated debate with friends and suddenly there are large blotches of red wine all over my new cashmere rug and splatters over the wall. Consulting the services of a professional cleaner is out of the question. Please it's urgent the rug really tied the room together. Look forward to hearing your suggestions,Robledo Puch
A professional carpet cleaner is your best bet. However, you say this is out of the question. Realize that any home remedy is risky. Having said this, you can try to clean this rug yourself, but the results are not guaranteed. You can remove red wine with white wine. Pour white wine onto the red wine stains. Let that sit for about 20 minutes. Then wash the rug in your machine using the cold water setting and Woolite. I would not add fabric softener. After washing, hang to air dry. Do not machine dry. There is a chance machine washing will ruin your rug, but cold water machine-washing is as close as hand-washing as possible. If you let the rug air dry, there is a good chance it will survive. Honestly, if I had an expensive cashmere rug that was stained, I would take it a professional. The choice is yours. Good luck. -
Q: how to stretch existing carpet?
That's a power stretcher. Place either with the head about 1/2 away from the wall and either kick the carpet onto the tack strip or engage the handle of the power stretcher to pull it on to the T/S. Note: make sure the carpet is secure on the tack strip BEHIND you, so the stretch can happen. You may need to gently kick along one wall to move the carpet up onto the tack strip, and then put some muscle into the kicks along the opposite wall. It is also a good idea to kick the corners first -on a diagonal (the corner on the left in front of you, then the one on the right BEHIND you -then reverse it. If the room is mall enough, the kicker will do the job, but if it is big, you'll need BOTH kicker and power stretcher.
Q: My vacuum cleaner picks up large amounts of powder every time I vacuum. The powder color is light grey and I am worried it may cause health issues for my family.I had the carpet professionally cleaned twice, but the powder is still there. What could it be? Should I have it lab tested? Please help!!
it's probably not powder, it sounds more like carpet fibers and yes it will cause health problems. My son was affected by carpet fibers, we had to go through chest xrays, mri, and countless visits to the doctor along with several prescriptions for inhalers before the city health inspector came into my home and determined the problems my son was experiencing were a result of the berber carpet we had throughout our home. The carpet breaks down when you walk on it and vacuum it, that gets lifted into the air and you breath it in. It's not dust, it's not powder, it's synthetic fibers. We had all carpet removed and replaced it with tile, my sons symptoms disappeared.
Q: We've only lived in our brand new home for 1.5 years, and our carpet already has light patches! The carpet is that annoying tanish color that stains way easily, and it's stock manufactured home carpet, so it's not so great to begin with. A few weeks ago, I noticed a light patch in an area that would hardly ever be stepped on, even by our dogs. I don't think I've ever had to shampoo that area, except for in the summer when we had a guy shampoo the whole house. I decided to shampoo our carpets during Xmas break, and I'd barely begun when I noticed 2 more light patches! I highly doubt it's from our carpet cleaner. We use the same stuff the carpet guy used, and we've used it dozens of times without any problems. I decided to just let our carpet be dirty rather than risk any more damage, just in case. Ever had problems like this? I read a little about carpet dyes. Any experience?
If your home is a double wide (or larger), and you did not order it direct from the factory, then there is a good chance it sat on the dealer's lot for some time...and its possible some sunlight was allowed in thru the marriage wall. The marriage wall usually just has a layer of plastic over it for transport...some dealers leave it on while the home is on their lot, and some don't. Even a small hole in the plastic can result in a large faded area if it was facing the sun. (Some homes will sit on a dealerships lot for a year or so, before they are sold....plenty of time for the sun to cause some fading) There is also the possiblity that your cleaning chemicals did cause some fading....they all come with a warning to 'spot check' a section to see if they will cause any fading, before you are to use them all over the carpet. Since you mention dogs in the home, pet urine could also be a factor. And of course, there is always the chance that you just got a bad quality carpet to begin with. Different manufacturers use varying quality of carpet. Some are pretty good. Some are pretty cheap. A lot of the carpet being made today is synthetic...(some even use recycled plastic). Things like nail polish (or remover), or 'kool-aid' (its actually the sugar in the drink that does the damage) can actually alter the fibers chemically. Bleach dripped on the carpet will do the same, even if it is wiped up immediately. If a rag has been used to clean with bleach, or acetone (an ingredient found in most nail polish removers) is dropped on the carpet, or used when damp to wipe the carpet, it will cause the carpet to fade. If the carpet is in good shape, physically... little wear and tear, no holes, etc... then you may want to just have a professional come in to dye the carpet. Usually, this costs less than replacing the carpet, but get some quotes for replacing it too. Good Luck
Q: Carpet has rich patterns, gorgeous colors and diversified shapes, which can beautify your decorative environment and reflect your personality. According to the usage, carpets are divided into commercial carpets and artistic carpets.
The common fiber raw materials for carpet velvet yarn are divided into natural fiber, chemical fiber and blended fiber. Natural fibers include wool, silk, cotton and jute; Chemical fibers include viscose staple fiber, nylon B CF filament and staple fiber, acrylic staple fiber, polypropylene B CF filament and staple fiber and polyester staple fiber; Blends include wool / nylon, wool / viscose, wool / acrylic, wool / polyester and wool / jute. 1. Wool carpet Wool carpet is mostly made of wool as the main raw material. Its wool is fine and dense, with natural elasticity, and can be quickly restored to its original state after compression; It adopts natural fiber, without static electricity, difficult to dust soil, and has natural flame retardancy. Pure wool carpet has exquisite patterns, elegant color, not easy to age and fade, and has the characteristics of sound absorption, warmth preservation, foot comfort and so on. In addition, woven wool carpet can be divided into: A. Pure wool carpet: wool content ≥ 95%; B. Wool carpet: 80% ≤ wool content < 95%; C. Wool blended carpet: 20% ≤ wool content < 80%; D. Blended carpet: wool content < 20%. 2. Chemical fiber carpet The chemical fiber (synthetic fiber) carpet is made of nylon fiber (nylon), polypropylene fiber (polypropylene fiber), polyacrylonitrile fiber (acrylic fiber), polyester fiber (polyester), set silk, PTT and other chemical fibers as the main raw materials. It is characterized by strong wear resistance and overcomes the shortcomings of pure wool carpet that is easy to corrode and mildew;, However, the flame retardancy and antistatic property are relatively poor. Even carpets produced by the same manufacturing method will produce carpets with different appearance effects due to the use of raw materials, pile form, pile height, hand feel, organization and density.
Q: I've recently noticed rugs popping up on my yards in the evenings, it goes down to around 4oC here at night right now, and all horses are in their own fields, not in a herd. I personally am not too sure on rugging yet. My mare is a 16.2, 10 year old Irish Sports Horse, and I simply refuse to clip her for my own reasons. She has been rugged for most of her life with her old owner, and obviously it's unfair of me to deny her rugging now, so no rug is not an option.I was just wondering how cold it has to get before you start rugging. I myself will rug in horrible rain, and at 1oC or below, but should I be doing it at higher temps? I don't want to ruin the growth of her winter coat, and she gets hay and a feed every night.
Horses are made with internal heating systems. When it gets cold, they grow hair. It's natural. No one puts rugs on the wild horses;) A lot of people say that if a horse has been rugged or blanketed they always will have to be, but that is not true. You just don't want to start off using a blanket and then just randomly stop in the dead of winter. If a horse is fed a well balanced diet it will grow a super thick winter coat. It feels nice and adds extra insulation if you ride bareback in the winter. Also, horses that are allowed to grow their own coat usually shed out nicer and more thoroughly. Just make sure when spring rolls around you brush enough to get all that thick fur off when it's ready. In the wild, horses would find a good spot to roll and they would groom each other. Plus, I personally like the look of horse with long, thick, fluffy coats. My horses never wear blankets or rugs. And they are already getting fluffy;)
Q: How to do fireproofing treatment to carpet
there is no good way, since it is easy to catch fire, how can place carpet, that is not pure wool carpet, how to pass is hard, like the hotel carpet tufted carpet or other woven carpet, scutcheon: no open fire and no smoking, the best way is to go the hotel that is operating to see.
Q: If I were to knit a throw rug, what size needles and what type of yarn would work best for the project?
You can use any size yarn, but I'd opt for a larger needle. I made a purse out of strips of fabric I had left over from a quilting project. I simply knit every row until it was the size I wanted. It would have been great as a rug if I'd had enough fabric, but it had a great rag look to it! I think I used HUGE needles, size 19 or 35 to make it. This was a lot of fun, and the project was made VERY quickly!
Q: Is their any specific guidelines for the maximum size of accent rugs.
Rugs come in sizes ranging from small welcome mats to room-size area rugs of 13 feet by 17 feet and larger. There are even larger wall-to-wall oversize rugs, measuring 26 feet by 37 feet or larger. If none of the pre-made area rug sizes fit your needs, custom rugs are a possibility; you can have the perfect rug no matter what size and shape you want.
Q: I want to make a bathroom rug/mat for around the toilet with a piece of carpet. how can I cut the carpet in that shape
You could use a box cutter. But the ends would eventually fray. You would need to research how to sew the ends so they don't fray apart, or you'll get carpet pieces all over your floor.
