Q: would spraying it with silocone lube help to unfreeze it?
If your brakes are seized especially on a 79 then most likely just getting them unseized is just half your problem. What I do to unsieze them is take a rubber mallet and give the outside of the caliper a whack. Most likely you are going to have to rebuild the caliper because once you pull the lever again they will seize again. I would check the pistons for any rust or pits if they are they are going to have to be replaced along with the seals. I always find lots of corrosion and old brake fluid gunk so I would recommend having a reliable shop do it because getting those frozen pistons out can be hard and dangerous if you don't know what your doing.
Q: Also applies to bikes/motorcycles etc. They also have larger brake discs for that reason. Please try to use laws if possible.
Just think of the car in motion when you try and stop it. The car has a center of gravity and there is a torque from the loaded weight on front wheels about the CG and similarly there is an opposite torque from the loaded weight on the rear wheels. (The lever arm for each goes from the CG to the front point of contact on the road for the front torque and goes from the CG to the back point of contact on the road for the rear torque.) The sum of which is zero, of course. When you try and stop the car, new torques are added. The lever arm here is from the CG to the ground level, but both have the same rotation as each other, rather then opposite. The additional front torque loads the front of the car downward harder to the road, while the similarly rotating new torque around the CG reduces the loading in the rear (lifts it somewhat.) If you want more details, try the following page. I haven't read it, but did a quick search on google using a few terms I tossed at it and this result looks about right.
Q: For a motorcycle traveling at speed v (in mph) when the brakes are applied, the distance d (in feet) required to stop the motorcycle may be approximated by the formula d 0.05v^2 + v. Find the instantaneous rate of change of distance with respect to velocity when the speed is 42 mph.
d' 0.1v + 1 Convert mph ft/s, then substitute.
Q: I'm 22 years old, and recently decided with the gas crunch and the fact that I don't really need a full size car, that a motorcycle would be the best bet for me. Problem is, I've never ridden before, and know next to nothing. Where should I start? I was thinking that I should just buy a cheap bike and learn, but I'm not sure. Any advice is welcome. :)
I did the same thing last year. I didn't know how to ride either. I went through my local Abate group and found a beginners rider course. I also got my learners permit from my state. The course pretty much teaches you most of the steps to get you going.
Q: Any books you recommend for someone new to motorcycles?
Proficient motorcycling by David Hough
Q: I really don‘t want to drop my motorcycle at a stop sign, or a red light. what is the most correct way to brake and stop. (things like body position, hand, feet) , whenever i come to a stop i usally have my right foot on the peg and left foot is just dragging along. i come to a wobbling stop, but i don‘t know any other way to do it.
None that I have seen. A custom job would be easy using an inside out setup on one side and another disc on the other. Using a belt drive eliminates all oil concerns.
Q: If someone accidentally hits a guy riding a motorcycle from behind, can they go to jail?
If someone dies theres always going to be a large investigation no matter the case So if theres proof that the brakes failed (which is easily prove able by technicians) then the district attorney may have some leniency toward the person who was driving the car however manslaughter is a crime in which accidental death occurs meaning yes, the person in the car committed manslaughter however he didnt, seeing how the breaks apparently went out However itll be up to the DA to decide whether he wants to press manslaughter charges on the person driving the car or not based off the break failure ruling and other evidence.
Q: Why is the front brake pad larger than the rear wheel brake disc
Physics is not very understanding,
Q: So I‘m thinking of buying this to practice on as I will be a new rider very soon ( and $1000 seems like a really low price for what I‘ve found). It‘s running good and only has 11,000 miles on it. The owner posted that it‘s a 2007 Lifan 250cc. So I tried looking up the specs to get some info on the bike but I couldn‘t seem to find anything So I‘m hoping that one of you guys can help me out and post a link to a website with details on it. Thanks in advance!
It's Chinese manufactured, personally I would stay clear. It seems like a good price because the bike is cheap to begin with, it's made with cheap parts. In my opinion, stick with well know brands such as Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha etc etc. Japanese or European made bikes are far better in today's standards.
