There is a point though, when you can go too long. Example: I bought a house about a year ago with really terrible carpet. It was about 40 years old and looked like it had never been cleaned. It was horrible. I pondered for a split second whether I should try to have it cleaned once, to see if it was salvagable or go ahead and remove it before I moved in. Every time I went to the house, while trying to prep it to move in, I came out itching.... I had every last stitch of carpet removed, and found beautiful hardwood floors throughout, and so had those refinished and bought area rugs. Q:I've seen stainmaster carpet, and I was wondering which type of carpet resists stains the best. I'm redoing the carpet in a dining room, and my cats continually pee on the carpet in this room, so I need a robust carpet. Thanks!: I have Stainmaster ... and I have 3 dogs and a cat. My carpet is not yet 4 years old, and it is destroyed. Stainmaster isn't worth the time it takes to type the word. OK, the truth is ... if a stain is just on the surface, and you catch it and clean it RIGHT AWAY ... yes, you can usually get it out. However, if it soaks through, forget it. You may be able to get most of the visible stain out, but the smell? No way. If you could replace your carpet with Pergo, tile, anything BUT carpet, I'd recommend it. If, however, you do want to use carpet, I'd look into commercial-grade carpet. That's the stuff used in department stores, restaurants, offices, etc. Not too luxurious, but pretty tough. It is a very tight carpet ... most wet stains and spills will wipe up. And it can be vigorously scrubbed without damaging it. If you buy a carpet with an allover pattern, in a medium-to-dark tone, it will better hide the stains than one that is a solid color, especially a light color.

Carpet needs to run the same way when it connects to adjacent rooms to avoid cross graining the carpet. That doesn't allow for nice seams. A carpeting contractor would measure to see how many yards of carpet would be needed to correctly install, calculating waste, etc. Without waste being factored, an area is divided by 9 square feet per yard of carpet. 10% waste is typical but it does vary from house to house. Thus, 1700 x 1% = 1870 / 9 = 207.77. Carpet installed will vary in price but $20 here in Texas is a generous amount, so 207.77 x $20 = $4155.55 plus applicable taxes. If you're selling the house, go with a neutral color that appeals to many buyers and goes with many wall colors they might select.

I need some sort of heavy duty carpet cleaning suggestions.: Hello, Adding soap to the sticky and black ground in mystery stain is just making it worse. You are adding a surfactant (Soap) that gets sticky when it dries. You need to find out if the stain is a oil ( like food dropped ) or sugars like soda pop. First thing you want to do is get rid of the soap residue. If you have a wet dry vac. Get club soda and pour it onto the stick black ground in mystery stain. Use a soft shoe brush and start brushing the stain. If it is turning foamy you have to get DEFOAMER. Spray it on the carpet till you do not get any foam on your brush. (It cuts soap bonds so you can get the soap residue off the carpet). Keep adding club soda. Extract the club soda from the carpet. The black and sticky should start to go away. You should be left with just the original stain, or it should be gone. If you have no foamy residue and it still is sticky you need a solvent because it is an oil based spot. I don't know where you live but if you look in your local yellow pages for Carpet Cleaning Supply stores you can get Defoamer and Solvents to clean the carpets. BE CAREFUL WITH THE SOLVENTS USE AS LITTLE OF THE SOLVENT AS POSSIBLE. IT CAN DELAMINATE THE CARPET IF YOU USE TOO MUCH. (seprate the carpet backing from the fiber) Solvents will desolve glue. Q:Which is the simpliest way to clean and remove spots from dirty carpet, without using commercial shapoo?: I use the light detergent or washing soaps. Do'nt even have to remove the carpet, i do it in piece by piece, wipe the excess water with sponge before applying the vacuum cleaner. Then if the odor persists, sprinkle it with petroleum (about 50 ml without engine oil) and open the doors and windows for 4 hours. Next morning its sparkling clean and as new as the first time i saw it ! Good luck!
