Q:I bought Nexxtech Evolution series 16 gauge 30' wire to be able to bring my rear speakers farther back in my room. I have an Altec Lansing 5.1 speaker system with remote and all the speakers connect to the back of the sub. (front are red wire, center is blue, and rear is gray) they are all have the black wire and the colored wire. The wire I just bought are brown, and have a stripe of gray on the second wire (polarized wires) but the ones I bought are much thicker wire... will it still work to just strip/twist/tape the wires to extend the rear speakers? or did I buy the wrong wire? and also, how do I know which to twist with which? (the ones I bought aren't really that clear on which is which... which end is positive and which is negative).Answer quickly please!
You are going to strip twist the wires together to make it longer? Just be really careful that the wires don't touch and short, that can blow out the reciever. It would be best to get some heat shrink tubing to cover the wires and then you could use a blow dryer to apply heat. This makes a tight secure connection. I think Radio Shack sells it. As to which wire is - and * you can connect speakers either way and it won't damage them. So why do speakers have red and black connectors? Well to get the best sound they should be in phase. To show what I mean take a flashlight battery and connect it to a speaker. If you connect it one way you'll see the speaker cone push out, reverse the battery and speaker cone will pull in. So what you want is all speakers wired the same way for the best sound.
Q:I have a minivan with a flat 5 pin wiring connecter at back. We bought an old utility trailer with no wiring. It has the two rear lights, one on each side with 2 wires sticking out of each. We got the flat 5 pin trailer connector to connect to the van and bought a long piece of cable which has the white, brown, green and yellow wires in it. Where do I connect what? I have the wire that connects to the van with the four colours and 2 wires coming out of each light for the trailer. Thanks!
Your five wire setup is the same as a four wire setup with an additional wire for power (if it is even hooked up on the vehicle, which I have seen some installed and not used before) The white wire is Chassis Ground (also known as 'NEG' or '-') The green wire is for the Right Side Turn and Stop. The yellow wire is for the Left Side Turn and Stop. The brown wire is for Running/Marker lights. If your trailer's chassis is made of metal, then connect the white wire to it. Check the trailers taillight bulbs to see if they have one or two filaments. They should have two. One is for the dimmer running lights, and one is for the brighter brake and turn lights. Good luck with your wiring adventure!
Q:Which wire is quot;hot, white or black?
There is no code required or generally accepted color code for fire alarm wiring. Usually circuits for different purposes are color coded differently. For instance, initiating device circuits and notification appliance circuits.
Q:-note-NOT . resistance wire.resistance OF A wire :)lol sorry, just had so many people give me resistance wire.thats not what i want :Li want ..what is the resistance of a wire?its for my science :) pleasee help
It okorder /... Good luck in your studies, ~ Mitch ~
Q:the wires are all cut off. which 2 do i connect and which is which and what is what?
Starting with the Instrument panel fuse 20amp, wire is yellow (+) coming from fuse block to the cigarette lighter. Coming out of the lighter is the black (-). If you have a test light find the yellow wire, turn the ignition on to accessories and with the test light grounded the light should come on. Then find the black wire connect the two. If you still can’t get it you can run a 12 gauge wire from the cigarette lighter fuse and then run a separate 12 gauge wire to a good ground on the car. If you are messing with live wires try not to let them arc. If your not getting any power check your fuses. Or don’t smoke.
Q:Can your use the power wire that they sell at home depo to do the big three upgrade or is it better to just get wire from a car audio store?
the wire from homedepo will work alight its just not real flexible but it will work
Q:What happens when you hook these 2 wires up right along each other?
if you have an rca tv which works with 12 volts.......if the wires not connected to battery...there no problem. if connected to battery....the fuse blows.(close to battery on wire)....if there is no fuse....wires burn...risk of fire....do not forget...every device works with car battery MUST and MUST be eouipped fuse .
Q:I have a 2004 mit lancer and im trying to instal 2 sets of kicker rs65.2 door speakers having trouble with the back the wires on the right are yellow and one has a red stripe the other has a green stripe and the left speaker is a solid green and blue wire how in the heck am i suppose to match those up with the black and red the right seems obvious but i dont want to mess anything up
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Red/Black Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Blue/Yellow Car Radio Ground Wire: Chassis Car Radio Illumination Wire: Green/White Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: N/A Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Yellow Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Size: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Location: N/A Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Red/White Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Red/Blue Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Red Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Green Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: N/A Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: N/A Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): White/Blue Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow/Red Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow/Green
Q:I know that a fuse is connected to the live wire. And I was wondering; since a fuse and the circuit breaker are similar, would the circuit breaker also be placed so that both terminals of the circuit breaker are connected to the live wire? If not, would it be connected to a wire that connects a live wire and neutral wire?
The neutral wire is never connected to to a circuit breaker or fuse. It measures the current passing through the hot wire and opens if the current gets to high. Although the same amount of current passes through the neutral wire, an open breaker or fuse in that wire would let the load be connected to the hot wire but not to ground so you could bet shocked from it.
Q:let me start off with I am not an electrician I just do basic stuff for side work I came in the project at the end. The lady wanted me to wire in 6 receptacles, a light switch and light fixture all on one circuit. everything is good except for the receptacle at the start of the circuit it has the lead/ hot coming in the power to the other receptacles going out and the power to the light going out (3 groups, 9 wires total). normally I would have used a junction box but I didn't pull the wire. How can I wire this. Would a 15 amp receptacle work?
A 15 Amp receptacle will work, of course, but the receptacle box is most likely already overfilled. So in order to keep the wire count down, your best way to go is to buy a receptacle that uses screw down connector tabs. (NOT the kind that you have to put the wire under the screw, but the kind that you insert the wire into the back and then turn the screw down to clamp onto it!) The receptacle is a little more money but it would be worth the expense to make this hook up work. Hot wire (Black): Connect all three black wires to the back of the receptacle on the brass colored screws. Common wire (White): Connect all three white wires to the back of the receptacle on the silver colored screw. Ground: make a short pigtail of bare copper wire (about 6 or 7 inches long). Then connect the pigtail to the other 3 bare copper ground wires using a wire nut. Then connect the other end of the pigtail to the grounding connection of the receptacle. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF WHEN YOU DO ALL OF THIS SO THAT YOU CAN LIVE TO TELL THE TALE! :-)
