- Q: Or can stranded wire of the same gauge be subsitituted for solid wire without any consequences? The reason I ask is because its for a massive 4kJ capacitor discharge circuit, and I need all the energy delivered to the power coils im using, cant afford to have much leakage inductance.
- You question about Inductance seems illogical. I can't imagine how a straight wire will affect a sudden discharge of current unless the wire is coiled (inductor) or have a shield attached to ground(capacitor). I believe the difference between the two wires are their direct current resistance which is very negligible if the wires are just a few feet long. The Capacitor that will discharge current directly to a coil is a 'tank circuit' and is a type of oscillator. Most likely, The inductance you will experience is caused by the power coil itself that feeds it back to the capacitor and vise versa. If that is true, I recommend a reverse shunt diode across the coil and a series diode between the capacitor and the coil.

- Q: I have a new light fixture I am trying to install. The electrical box has two sets of black and white wires coming in. Both of the black wires are connected together while the white wires from either set were used to connect the old fixture. How should I wire in the new fixture. The switch for this light has only one set of black and white wires connected to the light switch.
- Identify the wiring so you have the power feed and the switch leg and then put some black tape on the white wire going to the switch. This should be connected to the black power feed and then the white from the power feed is connected to the white of the fixture and the black from the switch leg is connected to the black of the fixture.

- This is one time I'd say life was much more important than the savings of heat and cooling. Your wiring is too old, probably brittle for any kind of activity up there. Just get some new wire and install it before messing with the insulation. Then if you have enough left over install what insulation you can.

- The red is the main power or acc power that comes on when car key is turned. The yeallow is for the memory for radio. Another word when u store a preset radio station that yellow wire supplies continues power to store mem for ever or untill u have to change batt. The reason y it worked when u hooked yellow and red to gether is they where both getting power. If one dosent get power it will no work. Check radio fuses for the yellow wire to see if it out. If u have manuel to car that would help. I had a mustang that with the yellow wire was dead i traced the wire tried to find the prob but could not. I ran a wire from batt to radio where the yellow wire hooked up. That is the same thing just try to keep the wire away from hot areas and door jams try to runn it through the firewall of the car.

- I am not sure what bucktails are, but a good place to buy coils of wire is a hardware store or farm store. You should be able to get aluminum wire, galvanized wire, or mechanics wire (black/brown)
