Q: I am trying to install an outside motion activated light fixture, there is a box with a yellow wire that did not have power... I found a white wire with power and joined it to the yellow wire...and after installing the fixture (white wire to white wire, black wire to black wire) my fixture is not turning on... uld it be because of the two kind of wires??: No, the wire colors wouldn't matter if they were wired correctly. First, if you see a yellow wire, that is not a conventional wiring setup. You need to find a black wire (hot) that is switched, and a white wire (neutral) that is at ground potential. There should also be a green or bare copper ground wire. On the fixture, black goes to black, white to white, and the ground wire to the metal fixture if there's a ground connection, or if the fixture screws to a metal box, the ground can be connected to the box instead.

Q: I have this ipod cord in my car to play music off of, and at first it started cutting out. I would move the wire in a specific spot to a position to where it would work. Then eventually it just stopped working all together, so im assuming the wires inside have been damaged. You could get you some wire cutters and wire strippers and a soldering iron and some electrical tape or shrink wrap and go at it, but it would probably be just as well to get another cord.

Q: The t-stat comes with EIT module. that wires to the t-stat and the furnace. Q: Its a 3 wire chandelier, 2 are attached like a regular electric cord and the third is separate. all are the same color. the ceiling has 2 wires. one tan/white and the other is red. I am comfortable with doing the connections but unsure what wires to connect: You need an ohm-meter to find out which wire goes where. continuity is minimal ohms between 2 points. 1) The wire with continuity to the exposed metal of the fixture goes to the metal electrical box and/or ground wire. YOU need a wire to hook up to the red one that comes on with the ignition. if the wire thats supposed to work for this dont for some reason you can 1. hook it into the fuse box with something that comes on with the key or 2.you can simply hook the yellow wire and a 4 foot peice of 12 g wire to the one that gives it power then with your extra wire run itout on the dash for a toggle switch and run that back to the red wire and remember to turn it off or you will have a dead battery in the morning :)

Q: I am re wiring a hanging lamp. I know the black wire is the hot. My problem is this, the replacement wire is gold. There is no apparent groove in the wire, but one side does have writing on it. If I remember correctly the side with the writing is the hot?: Check the cord that you are using. Feel it with your fingers and try to find a ridge on one wire or the other. This is the indicated conductor that would usually be the neutral or white side of the lamp socket. This is the shell or outer side of the lamp holder. At the plug end it should go to the larger blade of the cord cap. It may also have a thread in one of the wires. As long as it is consistent and the neutral is wired to the shell the electricity does not care which wire it goes through. The issue is when someone wires the line side or the smallblade of the plug to the outside or shell of the lamp. Too many so called electricians on here have no clue about how to wire any thing. If in doubt at all, call a qualified professional electrician to do the work.
