Wires are wires. They are definitely compatible. The problem is that if the wires you are replace are made of cheap components then the sound quality wont be great. Also if you aren't getting any response then you have either wired it up wrong or you have damaged the speaker drivers and they now no longer work. Make sure you have connected the ground to the ground on the jack and the positive to the positive. Look around on google for a wiring diagram

You need to buy one specific to your tow vehicle if you have a 5-wire system and one sure way to determine if you have a 5-wire system is if your rear turn signals have an amber lens. But not all 5-wire systems have amber lens on the rear turn signals so don't let that be the only determining factor. Check for yourself, or better yet, call a U-Haul center an tell them the year, make, and model of your tow vehicle and ask them if you need a converter harness. They will tell you what you need. But I am almost positive that the Chrysler Town and Country will need a converter harness.
Q:can i use elmer glue to hook up wires?
There are three methods i would use personally, glue is a terrible choice. 1. Easiest - Strip the two tips of the wire, Twist them like he stated and put electrical tape to keep the current inside and wires together. This works but the wires can slip with the slightest pull sometimes. 2. Medium but still easy - Purchase butt connections (least thats whati callem lol) - Basically its this Red/Yellow/ or blue, cylinder about an inch long and just a little thicker then the wire itself. The exterior is a plasitc like substance and the inside is a Metal tube. Strip both ends, stick them in and use a Wire Crimping tool to crimp both ends and i do the center of the connection. This gives you a secure connection with minial work. 3. More difficult - Soddering. You'll need a soddering gun and electrical tape for this and also is the best connection youll get when hooking to wires together. Strip both ends, Twine them together and then you use the soddering gun to bascially drip metal into the twisted wires connecting them forever, unless you cut them.

Depending on what kind of tester you have you can do the following... If you have a audible tester pinpoint the hot from the old wire and tie it to the new black wire. The rest is history. If you don't have an audible test, but one that lights up or one that is digital, set the digital to high volt reading, then take your index finger moisten it with your tongue and while holding it on one probe take the other probe and touch it to the old wires one at a time. When the test gives a reading you found the hot. Make sure you wearing shoes and not leaning up against anything metal, else you will get shocked. Forget to mention one important thing. After you find the hot, you should always tie the whites ( neutrals ) back first, then the hots last. If possible make sure the fan is off. If you can' t tell you will get an ark from the load. That is normal and nothing to be worried about.
