- Q:I have a rug imported from Iran. It is made of wool on a silk backing. My cat was sick on it and some of the color ran—vermilion into cream color. It is getting a bit dingy and I would like to get it cleaned. Is there any way to get the pinkinsh stain out of the cream part. It is a beautiful rug.
- patch your cat pelt on it.Is your cat persian or siamese ?
- Q:My cat keeps scratching the carpet next to our backdoor. Its not the carpet anywhere else,or the furniture.Just that carpet.I have a scratcher thing for her to use,but she doesnt use it.How can I get her to start using the scratcher, and stop scratching the carpet?
- put some sort of tied up sock with that stuff cats like the smell of next to or possibley on her scratching post and put a nasty smelling thing on the carpet till it uses the scratch post not the carpet.
- Q:spill candle wax on my carpet and wont come off...
- Be careful and this might just get most of it up: Take several paper towels and put them over the wax. Now rub a very warm but not supper hot clothing iron over the paper towels. This will warm the wax while it is being absorbed into the towel. Repeat with clean paper towels until you are satisfied that you have removed all you can.
- Q:We are going to have our 3 year old carpet stretched. We also need to have it professionally shampooed. Which service should we have done first?
- Without doubt it must be shampooed first as K M has already said. The reason is also the same, that carpets do in fact lose their shape due to shrinking , etc and then when you get it stretched, the stretcher will get it into a perfect rectangle.
- Q:My carpet had high traffic so I bought a large bottle of carpet spray from the grocery store. I sprayed and worked the solution in with a sponge, I cleaned a 5X7 area = 35sq ftSome parts of the carpet are still kind of damp when walking on them, it has been 20 hours.I have my windows open and I live in Colorado, very dry...humidity meter in my house says 26 right now. Even with my windows open for the past 20 hours the carpet still isn't completely dry.I am concerned about mold because I lived in a house once where we had mold problems and I don;t want them again! I read Mold can grow very fast...Since I used carpet cleaner and didn't just pour water on my carpets will the carpet cleaner cause mold the same way water will? Thanks!
- Mold takes 3 days and warm temperatures to get started, they also require a food source. You should know that what you did was create a dirt/soil magnet with the soapy spray. All professionals will rinse the soap, called pre-spray, from the carpet fibers, using treated hot water and powerful vacuum extraction. Consider this a part of your education and do not repeat the attempted cleaning process that will end in dismal failure. A professional carpet using van mounted equipment and a rotary head cleaning machine, such as an RX20 or a Roto Vac 360, for best results and do this at least once a year.
- Q:I have a new apartment with wood floors and need to soften up part of it for sitting, yoga, stuff like this. I love Persian rugs but can't afford one. I'm wondering, what about an area rug that is basically carpet you would find in somebody's house... only not installed or glued to the floor. Just a roll of carpet. I don't know the terminology. This doesn't have to be fancy. What is the best way to go about getting such a thing? Do carpet stores have surplus carpeting laying around if you don't particularly care about style or size? Thanks for any replies.
- A carpet remnant (back of store) cut to the size you want with the edges bound (the store will do it) is quite acceptable. If you want, you can have, say, a 4x6 piece of carpet in one color, then, say 12-wide strips, of a second color on the edges. An example: cream area with brown border. I did that for a very nice rug. It can be any two colors you find in the remnants section of the store. Carpet comes in standard widths, one of which is 12'-wide. If you want a rug that large, you can buy the length you need (say 9' for a 9x12 rug) and have the edges bound. This lets you buy any color of carpet they have, not just what's available in remnants. If you want two rugs, one for the LR and one for the DR, the 12' can be cut any width, so you could have two 6x9s or a 6x9 and a 5x8 (with some left over), etc. If the carpet is still on the roll, you must buy the entire 12' width. The carpet store will do all of this for you, for a small price, even help you figure out sizes. You can check OKorder for persian and persian-type rugs -- some are new, others are older but still beautiful. (Some older persians are worth more than new ones because they're better quality (more knots per square inch) and/or have the patina of age.) Check the listing's wording carefully as to its condition (you want at least good, and they'll tell you if there are any worn ares, and look at the pictures (there'll be a pic of the worn area if there is one). I've bought several, all in good or excellent condition, and they looked new, are beautiful, and will outlast me. If you have any questions, ask the seller. Also, stores like Wal-Mart and Sears sell persian-type rugs that are machine made for a lot less than a real persian. Put a good pad under any rug, 4 smaller so it doesn't show, for greater softness.
- Q:I am painting my room a pale orange, and it has bright yellow accents. What color rug would look really good? I can't do white because it would look too dirty. Thanks!
- Hi Claire, In choosing a Rug which lasts approx 10 years or more I would suggest that in this case you choose a neutral color. I realize many may think that Tan, Taupe or Light Gray. are a safe choice and so basic. But with that said Carpeting can expensive. Changing the Wall Paint is far more cost effective. In the future, you may decide to use another wall color paint in the room. Tan, Taupe or Light Grey would be my thoughts for you ! * All of the above mentioned colors come in a variety of many shades. I also suggest taking a Paint chip with you to the store for comparisons if you are concerned. Tan/Taupe will provide an earthy color to the room, while Gray colors are visually cool color. Happy Decorating !
- Q:nan
- if all high- class carpet is wool. some patterns. The hotel is suitable for wall-to wall carpet, acrylic is cheaper, but the price of wool is more expensive.
- Q:I got a flat woven rug and it keeps getting caught in my door. It drives me nuts. I just want to cut an arc out of it for my door. Is there a way to go about that?
- Probably hard to do if you're talking about an area rug. Scissors don't usually cut through rugs very well, even very good scissors. A utility knife doesn't do it very well either. And whatever you cut it with, the cut edges are going to fray. Better to move that rug back a bit and get something flatter for just inside the door.
- Q:rug is wool. its new. it costs 80 dollars to clean with the company.. id rather do it by hand.what besides hot water and a rug.. do i put on it to clean it by hand?
- Hi For just a few spots Nature’s Miracle should work. It is available at Petsmart. Make sure you follow the direction. The main reason that it fails is that people just sprays it on and wipe it up and not let it soak into the carpet and pad like the urine did. You may need to do this 2 or 3 time. Just reminder that the urine treatment product needs to go where the urine went for it to work properly. After you clean the spots, you should shampoo the carpet using this product on the front and back of rug. In my experience, Nature's Miracle is your best bet. Good luck! Carpet cleaner for 14 years
