- Q: How can you get carpets to smell good and get the odor out without using a shampooer or any kind of electric carpet cleaner?ive been told baking soda but it didnt work...
- I would have to say with great difficulty, I would even go as far as saying it is best to take the carpet up and clean under it as well. Place water onto a carpet with dirt and stains and it just soaks through to the bottom. Placing perfumes and scented products down do not get rid of the smells they just mask them. However your question asked for alternative methods without a shampooer so the only other alternative I could think of would be to use a steamer on it like a Polti. The steam actually lifts the dirt to the surface so you can then wipe it with a damp cloth. The temperature of the steam also kills any small bugs and germs.
- Q: I spilled a full ashtray on my off white carpet i scrubed it with carpet cleaner i still have a big black spot anyone know how i can get that out? Thanks
- 1 Sprinkle baking soda onto the areas of the carpet stained with ashes. Baking soda will absorb into the stains, removing the ashes from the carpet fibers. 2 Allow the baking soda to set on the carpet for an hour. Use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the baking soda from the carpet. 3 Apply dry-cleaning solvent to a clean, white cloth. Sponge the stained carpet with the cloth until the solvent is absorbed. 4 Inspect the carpet for remaining ashes or stains. Repeat the entire process if needed.
- Q: we had new carpet put in about four months ago .the carpet was suppose to have been scotch guard .the carpet gets dirt very fast .is there anyway or any place to send a piece for testing to make sure it was the right carpet
- I was told by the carpet layer from Discount City Carpets when laying my new (solution-dyed nylon twist) carpets about 18 months ago that new carpet comes Scotchguarded and it is removed with steam cleaning.
- Q: I have this large red wings rug and I would like to hang it on the wall. It is 49.5 by 69.75 and I am having a hard time figuring out what to do with it.

- Q: I have several cats, but only recently she decided to do her job on my area rug, yet she'll tinkle in the litter box...Any answers as to how I can get her back into doing both in the litter box...
- A new litter box in that spot.
- Q: I am having such a hard time finding a rug for my small studio apartment! I have white walls, an off-white/very light creme colored modern leather couch, a glass coffee table (smart coffee table-cb2) and a dark wood tv console. I just purchased a small dining table which is basically next to my tv console and it is also dark wood. I wanted to keep the entire room light but after an impulsive buy, I realize that the dining table definitely darked the room by a lot. Would using a white area rug clash with the off-white couch? I was also thinking of a light taupe colored rug that I think might match better but I want a color as light as possible. Would white be bad, aside from difficulties in maintenance?Last question, in a small room, would a dark wood tv console, dark wood dining table and a dark wood entryway console table be too much dark wood? Thanks a lot!
- Best Couch Color
- Q: carpet seems to be deteriorating and flying in air..manufacturerer says it is not from their carpet. By using wet sponge, I collect specimens from around edges of carpet that are the color of the carpet and look like wet cardboard.
- Good heavens, that's strange. Did you buy this carpet yourself, or was it already there? Do you know what the material is? I have lived in five houses with wall-to-wall carpeting and have never, ever seen that. If you can't find out what the material is on the phone, then take a piece of it to Home Depot or a specialty carpeting store or someplace like that and get some help. If you have major problems with this, I would call your local television news station and get them interested in a faulty product story. This might pressure the carpeting manufacturer to pay some attention to your issue. One final note though: whoever owned the carpet before you might have applied some kind of product to the carpet which is causing its detioration. Good luck.
- Q: I would like to make a rag rug what type of fabric is the best to use?
- Most rag rugs that i have encounter have been made from cotton. Most likely from scraps of cotton tee shirt fabric. You can find old tee shirts anywhere; ie. goodwill shops, consignment, thrift, tag/yard sales. Or you can buy cheap new ones anywhere and start cutting them up. Otherwise i would use any scrap pieces of any type of fabric that you can find or buy cheap. Hope this helps! Good Luck and have fun!
- Q: I have been living in a rental home for 2yrs and notice that the carpet is old. Due to the fact that i have had it clean 1 time steam clean and 2 times rental machine and stains will not come up. Asked rental company once and they said the owner does not have enough money to replace carpet. The carpet is over 10yrs old and you can tell because the edges are coming up and the man who clean the carpet one time said they don't make that kind of carpet any more. How can i get the owner to replace the carpet.
- you can't compel him to replace the carpet . pick your battles save it for real problems ,like plumbing or heating.
- Q: Hello:I am planning to buy contemporary rugs (10ft x 8ft) for my living room. can someone please tell me good stores or online links where i can buy... thanks for the help.
- If okorder but I'm not sure. The problem with ordering rugs online is that they can look so different in person than what they do in the pictures. Colors can be very deceiving, so you should have a good idea of what you want and what will work in your space. I ordered a rug online not too long ago. It was wonderful, and I was not disappointed in the colors. It simply did not look right in my living room. The pattern of the rug fought with the contemporary art work I wanted to highlight. The rug was a terrific buy through The Foundary. It was a $1,000 New Zealand wool that I got for $400.00. If you aren't familiar with The Foundary by Hayneedle, go to their website. You sign up to get their special sales, which last only a few days. But they have some great bargains. I sent the rug back. It cost $27, and Fed Ex picked it up. That wasn't too bad, considering I got to try it out and the rug would have been a terrific value had it worked. I had to find out, though. The cost to ship it back didn't break the bank, but it was a pain in the ____ to get it packaged - had to be rolled and folded, and repackaged in the original plastic and paper. The rug weighed a little over fifty pounds, a 6 x 9 size. Good luck. I hope you find something. Have you looked at Home Depot and Lowe's? They have a good selection on their websites.
