Q:i have a old rug its a shaggy type rug that i got when my great grandfather passed away and im not sure what year its from all i know is that its way over 20 years because he had it when i was born, and it was old then. i want to know what i can get to clean it with out it messing it up, right before he passed away he had put it in a box out in his barn and it smells its not really dirty it just smells and i've tried many things and all they do is just cover up the smell for a little while, if anyone know how i could get it cleaned please let me know, thanks

It is dirty and really smells. You need to lay it out on the ground and shampoo the living snot out of it. Rinse it off and do it again. After a few workouts of doing this it will be fine. Unfortunately, when you are done you will ask the question, Why did I do this? Why didn't I just throw this away? This rug sucks and it still smells.

Used them many times and they are very reasonably priced. If you aren't moving your furniture (which we didn't) make sure they put everything up on blocks so as not to stain the carpets until they dry. It's a normal procedure for them but they can mess up and your wood or fabric that touches the wet carpet will stain it. When they are done your carpets should only be damp and not wet to the touch. If they are wet don't let them leave until the carpets are only damp. Stanley Steemer is a franchise operation so not all franchises are great. I use them for a whole house cleaning but use my own steam cleaner much more often. I have saved a lot of money by owning my own steam cleaning machine which is a Bissell. I can keep up on carpet cleaning routinely as opposed to waiting until the carpets are in dire need. I would recommend after you use Stanley to buy your own cleaner.

Q:The carpet in my bedroom is matted down where I walk constantly [like the doorway area]. Is there anything I can do to make the fibers nice again? Standing straight up like they new again?

When I move furniture and the carpet is pressed down where the feet used to be, I put an ice cube in each divot, and by the next day the divots are gone. I don't know if this would help your problem, but it's worth a try. Another idea is to call a carpet cleaning company to see what they can do. I know after they clean the carpet, sometimes they comb or rake it, which left ours looking really fluffy.

I use an exercise sheet in the winter when walking out to keep my horse warm as her back is clipped. I use mine for slow work or for warming up when riding as I can remove mine whilst riding as it wraps around the saddle. Generally you wouldn't need it once you start cantering and jumping. The other reason for using one is for visibility. Mine is fluorescent yellow so I use it as high viz gear when hacking out.
