Q:I currently have a ceiling fan wired to a dimmer wall switch that controls the fan and the light, not good I know. I would like to set up the dimmer switch where it controls the light only and then i can use the fan pull switch for the fan. but i am not sure how to wire this with my current wires. In the wall box where the dimmer switch is I have two sets of wires coming from two different locations. one set has a black, red, white, and green. the other location has black, white and copper. currently the green and copper are connected and capped, the two whites are connected together and capped, two blacks are and connected to the black wire coming from the dimmer and the red is connected to the other black wire from the dimmer. how would I wire the dimmer switch to only control the light and not the fan? I want to make sure i do this safely.any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Ok, leave the copper and green wires alone as well as the white wires. Now the red and black coming from the same set should be your fan/light switch legs with red being light and black for fan itself. You may have to go into the fan ceiling box itself as it sounds the fan and light kit are connected to red wire in ceiling box especiallly if dimmer switch is controlling both. The other blacks are power legs. If both wires from fan/light are tied in with red wire, seperate them and connect the blue wire from light kit to red and cap off. With switch off, connect black wire from fan to those black wires that are capped off in box. If this isnt right connections, contact me via my email address on profile
Q:i am putting in a ceiling fan. there is a black wire and a white wire along with a copper looking wire in the wall. on the fan there is a blue, white, and green. where do i connect this to the wires in the wall? running from a wall switch btw
connect the fan black wire and the fan blue wire to the house black wire. then connect the white fan wire to the white house wire. connect the short green wire from the fan and fan bracket to the copper wire. the blue is the power wire to the light on the fan. Good luck...
Q:my dogs have chewed my central air contactor wire.my ac will not cut on. does anyone knows how to replace them and where to buy replacement wires locally( i live in Dallas TX.) i would like to do it myself instead of spending a lot of money.
This should be copper wire and a splice could be made with little risk since the thermostat is a low voltage circuit in most cases. Try the local HVAC contractor for some of the type you need. There are different types ( number of conductors) for different controllers so they need to match. If you just have the HVAC contractor do a fall service on the system they can make the needed repairs and prepare the whole system for the winter. It was probably used a lot this last summer so a service is about due.
Q:Blue and white wires contain insulated strands and red wire has a bundle of non-insulated strands. How are the two types of wires (insulated and non-insulated strands) used in homes (i.e. what are they used for?).
that query is slightly large. It quite relies upon on what you're utilising the cord for. even if that is carrying electric powered contemporary, the insulation will prevent unintentional contact with the present, which could effect in damage to someone or unintentional contact with floor, that could want to effect in failure of the circuit. if you're doing something else, like making a bucket deal with out of cord or utilising it to tie something on your vehicle, the insulation would grant you with a better acceptable grip, which may be better secure in its own correct.
Q:I am wiring a cd player in my truck is it necessary to get a wire harness that is made for the year make and model of my truck or can I just cut the factory terminals off and just connect the like colors?
While a wiring harness isn't strictly necessary, It's highly recommended. The wiring color code on an aftermarket head unit will match up properly with a vehicle-specific wiring harness. The wire colors of your vehicle wiring will NOT be the same as the wire colors on your aftermarket unit. You have to match the wires up according to function, not according to color.
Q:I am installing a GFCI outlet in the kitchen (20 AMP) the box that it is already installed in has more than nine wires running into it. What I need to know is how does one determine the load wires from line wires when there are multiple wires running to an outlet box?
Nine wires? sounds kinda sketchy. you may have normally two black (positive or load) and two white or neutral wires plus a green or bare copper cable for ground. it sounds like hobo joe who wired the place decided to add a few lights and whatever else to the positive feed of the original box. If you can find out what wires do what and add a junction box for all those extra wires.
Q:Hello,I am trying to figure out what type of metal jewelry wire I need for a beading project. I found mostly copper wire at the craft store, as well as a smaller variety of aluminum and brass wire. Is this copper wire (came in many colors) a durable wire? It seemed very soft. Is there a stronger wire on the market? I am mostly looking for 22-28 gauge wire. Thanks!
There okorder / and also look at the page on wire gauge chart. Hope this will help you to purchase the correct wire for your project.
Q:what if I use a 100 amps.main braker to wire my range and dryer
Whoa there! What you're describing is a 120 volt outlet (U.S. Canada). Every dryer I know of operates from 220 volts. For a three-prong, 220 volt plug, you should connect the black to one of the hot terminals and the red wire to the other hot terminal. The white wire, which is neutral, would go to the common terminal. The outlet box you describe is a 120 volt box. . .it just won't work! If you're operating a 220 volt dryer from 120 volts, you're asking for trouble. Besides, for a 120 volt outlet, you've got the connections all skewed. Here it is as looking at the outlet from the front: Black (hot) to small blade (brass screw), White (neutral) to large blade (silver screw), Copper (ground) to green grounding screw. You may have to run a 220 volt line from the dryer to a new breaker in your electrical service panel. I strongly suggest you leave this to a licensed, qualified electrician.
Q:I always see birds hang on the wires but never get fried how do they do. It?
We won't get a shock if we fly or when we aren't grounded... Because, Current flows only in closed circuits . A bird sitting in the wire doesn't form a complete circuit in order for the current to flow. In other words, Birds have their feet in the same wire. I've seen many days, birds (like crows in our country) get shocks. Sometimes birds too touch the Phase and neutral (or Earthing) wires thereby creating a largest potential difference, get toasted fall down. Not all birds are clever.
Q:I have a 1997 Dodge Neon 2DR and i did a electric door and mirror conversion but i cannt figure out the wiring... how would i go about figuring it out... can some explain or better show me how a basic lock and mirror controls are wired
i own a repair shop, and if you,ll get a good Haynes repair manual on it,this will have the wiring diagrams in it,for doing this ,that's about the only way you can wire it up right on this job, good luck,i hope this help,s.
