- Q:where would I be able to find information on how to change out a water pump for that specific type of vehicle and year, as well I had got a stain on the body from road work it seems to be cement how could I take spots out without damaging the body's paint? What are my options thanks...
- this is not that big a deal, this engine is 3/4 ths of a chevy sbc 305, which is basically the same as small block chevys from 1955 forward-the good thing is that this can be done quite easily in the car, just remember this engine has a serp belt, so take note of where the belts go and how the pulleys are aligned with all the accessories. DO NOT break the seal on the a/c unit, just take off the compressor and set it to the side, same with the power steering and alt. Once you get through the pulley system, just remove 4 bolts on the front of the pump, remove it, you have already drained the coolant, and keep it, either reuse it or dispose of properly, remove the pump, and clean off the old gaskets from the front of the engine block. Take the old pump with you, get one that is the exact same as the one you took off-do not allow the old pump to be taken by the parts store, buy an all new unit, not a rebuilt, and keep your old one until the new one is installed and functions properly-I know, I am probably overly protective, but many times I have brought home what appeared to be the correct pump, and it did not work, then I did not have my old one to look at to see exactly what i needed...good luck, as far as the paint, well, use a solvent to soften whatever is stuck to the paint, if it in fact is concrete, not cement as that is the powder that concrete is made from, then try a little vinegar, it is slightly acidic, will dissolve the concrete, and the spot can be removed gently, hopefully without chipping the pain-here is the good news, concrete does not chemically bond with paint, so you should have no problem...good luck, be careful.

- The problem with hooking up two pumps directly to each other (with just a pipe in between) is that one will work faster than the other. If the faster one is first, then the pipe in between will get pressurised and force water into the second pump, perhaps damaging it or the forcing pump. If the slower one is first, then the pipe in between won't be full and the second pump will be running dry.
- Q:Looking for a pro's advice here. My Corolla has developed a strange noise over the past few cold weeks (Highs of 10 degrees max, well below zero at night). The sound would best be described as a cricket-type rythmic chirp noticable during acceleration. I don't believe it's a belt because it comes and goes though it has steadily gotten louder. - First, you need to remove alternator belt and see if the noise disappear. then remove the AC (compressor belt) and notice if the noise disappear last , remove the power steering belt and see if the noise disappear IF NONE OF THESE STEPS HELP TO DETERMINE THE NOISE THEN YOU MAY HAVE TENSIONER TIMING BELT OR IDLER TIMING BELT OR WATER PUMP IS MAKING NOISE.

- Q:I currently have a gould 1/3 horse jet water pump and a rusted pressure tank that I would like to replace. There are two bathrooms, both with showers, 2 bathroom sinks and the kitchen sink, as well as the washer. What horse power should I have for 5 faucets and what size pressure tank would be sufficient? - I would go with a ? hp jet pump which normally come with a 30-50 pressure switch Check out Home Depot I believe they sell the Flotec. which will run about 260.00. It will give you much better pressure upstairs and if you want to increase the pressure you can chance the pressure switch (24.00) to a 40-60. As for tanks I would look at the 42 gallon. - Q:I own a 2003 Kia Sorrento and recently I was driving and the car completely died. I had it towed to the dealership and the said that the engine was gone because the water pump failed causing the timing belt to snap. Does this sound right? I feel like I am being duped. They want 4,800 to fix I also owe 7,400 on the car. The timing belt was replaced 3 months ago. Could this be their error? Does anyone know how the water pump would affect the engine? HELP ME!
- Well, you can definitely go to an independent mechanic and knock that price down to about $3000 for an engine replacement. I would definitely get a 2nd opinion on damage to the engine, I never heard of the water pump failing causing the timing belt to break. I guess you kept driving when the temperature gauge was rising and caused the engine to seize. Another shop may also be able to rebuild the damaged engine which could save you a lot of money. I don't know if you bought the Sorrento used, but if you bought new, now you know why a loan longer then 5 years is a no no no.
- Q:The water pump on my 1997 corolla has been leaking, I want to replace it by myself. I did some research online, and get the diagram of the engine structure. It seems to me it is not very hard to do, but who knows, it might end up being a very tricky job. Did anyone replace the water pump on 97 corolla before? How difficult was it? Two things I actually worry: 1. It might be hard to unbolt the water pump pulley, because there is little room insert a wrench. 2. Also, because of the lack of room, it would be also hard to unbolt the timing belt cover (the 2nd/middle cover). A shop gave the quote of $440 to replace the water pump, and I think I should be able to do it myself.
- You'll need to have a 1/4 drive short extension and 10mm socket to get the t-belt covers off. Also be sure to loosen the water pump pulley's 4 10mm bolts before removing the alt/ac belt to ease getting the pulley off. Your also going to need to support the engine when you take off the motor mount to gain access to the t-belt. Good luck and hope this helps. The hardest part of the job usually is getting the p.s. belt loose due to it's location while doing the job on the ground. Also you may want to invest in a repair manual so you line the marks up correctly, it's imperative that you have them exactly lined up.Good luck and hope this helps.
