Q:I want to install a wood floor and a carpet over ceramic tile without breaking it. Is it possible? If so, please tell me how to do it in detail. I am not goin to do it myself. I just want to know if it is possible and how to do it.Thank you for your time.
Only a scam artist or someone that does not know any better would attempt what you purpose. If you are going to change to a wood floor, or any other kind of floor, you must remove the tile and the underlayment that the tile is attached to. Once the sub-floor is exposed, clean of loose material, and has no nail heads sticking up can you proceed with any chance of having no serious problems with a new floor. Once you reach this point you need to be sure to follow the directions of the flooring manufacturer for the flooring you will be installing. If you try to cut corners to save time, work, or money you will very likely end up having it redone later at an even greater cost. You can take advice from those that have been there and have the experience to give you good advice or you can follow the advice of someone that either does not know what they are talking about or have little or no experience. Your choice. Best of Luck!
Q:PLEASE HELP!
using in production or just using it - like a cook will use ceramic bowls for putting food in, but is not involved in making them. Or somebody may sell ceramics but not make it. on the fabricating end. potter, dental ceramic technician, ceramic engineer, sculptor, factory worker in ceramics tableware production, product designer for ceramic products would be a few.
Q:I have a wax figure i would like to cast into metal bColloidald to coat it with some sort of ceramic material except clay to fire melt the wax out leaving a perfect mold for a metal pour. Is this Colloidal silica liquid and I add sand to it or is it the other way around. Or do I need to use something completely different.
I think I mentioned this before. What are your options for the burnout? How are you going to to get rid of the wax? This will determine to some extend your options for investment. If you can run a burnout kiln for 3 days I would strongly recommend using plaster/sand investment instead of ceramic shell. If you can use the facilities of an art foundry they will only do ceramic shell and you will need to do ceramic shell. You need to follow their instructions. 1) what way are you using to get rid of wax? 2) how many pieces are you making and how large, are you going to join with a group of other people contributing their pieces? 3) what is your facility for casting 4) what metal are you using The answer to these questions will to some extent determine useful type of investment. Ceramic shell is for example not useful for jewelry sized objects. It's too hard to remove easily and the removal process will break delicate structures. Also slurry will set rock hard if you don't maintain it and that investment process takes usually a day or two. Plaster/sand is fast to invest but needs much longer burnout. I would very strongly recommend to take a class or at least read a book. As far as I remember the book from clay to bronze has a pretty detailed descriptions of lost wax casting.
Q:My wife and I will be installing new flooring in our house in the near future. We‘re trying to decide the best route to take. We will probably put the house up for sale in about 5 years, so we want to consider resale value/attraction.So, if you were buying a house, would you prefer real hardwood, ceramic tile, or a combination of the two, throughout the whole house (2800 sf)? We prefer to have hard floors in all of the rooms, but would you (as a buyer) prefer carpet in the bedrooms? Thanks for any input.
I'm not a huge fan of wood floors in the kitchen or bath. I have ceramic in them, as well as a ceramic entryway and hearth. The living room and dining room are hardwood, and the rest is carpet. I am in the process of taking it all out though. I find carpet to be a pain. It holds dirt (especially what you can't see), wears too easily, and restricts you with your colors unless you do all neutral, which I don't like. My carpeting wasn't cheap, but I can't wait until it goes away. For those who say that wood floors are cold, you can always use an area rug. Hope this helps.

Q:I have heard about air ionizers that produce harmful ozone in the air and I was wondering if electric ceramic fan heaters produce ozone?
Firstly, no - they do not produce ozone. Secondly, ozone is a necessary gas that shields the earth from ultraviolet radiation and you from skin cancer. Breathing ozone gas gives me a bit of a sore throat and isn't particularly healthy, but the small amount produced by air ionizers is harmless. Ever notice that funny smell around large copying machines? That's ozone gas. It's produced whenever a highly charged wire is exposed to ordinary atmosphere or when an electric arc is maintained in the air as in some manufacturing plants such as during the plastic extrusion process for making bags. Some copy machines use these high voltage corona wires to charge the copying drum or to pull the powdered toner onto the paper.
Q:Development history of Chinese ceramics
Development history of Chinese ceramics:In the early Neolithic age, 7000-8000 years ago, the ancestors of our country had already started making pottery. Because of the low social productivity and the low level of material civilization of the society, the pottery of the new stone age was characterized by its rough and primitive simplicity. In the late Neolithic Yangshao culture, mining culture, Hemudu Site culture Qu Ling, Dawenkou Culture, Longshan culture ten cultural relics, unearthed a large number of ceramics, the main varieties of pottery, pottery, pottery and geometric pottery etc.. The original colored pottery and painting are decorated with geometric shapes. The techniques are rough and the composition is novel and smooth. It shows the artistic level of Chinese pottery at that time. Longshan culture pottery little decoration, but the overall round straight, thin wall and uniform, showing amazing skills.
Q:ive always used ceramic but never tourmaline because i thought it was bad for your hair?what is better ? should i look for a straightener that?is only ceramic ? or only tourmaline ? or both ?
Tourmaline is better and is less damaging to your hair. If you get an iron then make sure it at least has ceramic plates, even if they are ceramic coated. Anything below ceramic will damage your hair. Ceramic used to be the highest grade iron several years ago, but not tourmaline is the best.
Q:Do ceramic straightening irons ruin hair?
Heat in general is not great for hair, but ceramic is much better than any metal, which will burn your hair faster. Use a heat protectant spray (my favorite is a professional brand: Matrix sleek look line). And buy a weekly conditioning mask, to help keep the hair healthy. (And limit the use of your iron, and dont hold the iron in one place- keep it constantly moving, just as you would a hair dryer to prevent hair from being burned)
Q:how do the structure of ceramic material differ from those of metals?
Be careful, man. I had a motorcycle accident 2 months ago because a woman dropped her transmission fluid all over the road. 2 minutes later, another motorcycle got into an accident in the same spot. The cops easily found her car and gave her a big ticket. The best thing to do is let the mechanic put in the used transmission. I've been there before.twice. Just pay him to put it in and go on with your life. It is expensive and there's no way around it. As long as your mechanic is local and not a national chain. Beware of AAMCO and TUFFY'S because they have no shame talking to my brother the mechanic like a blonde ditz.
