Q: I have a Chinese rug and the pile is flat. Is there any way I can improve it.: 1. Put some ice cubes in a bowl. 2. Place the ice cubes along the dented areas of carpeting or in the spot where a piece of furniture was set. Place cubes about 2 inches apart. (See Tips below. ALWAYS test first, and be especially cautious if you have wood floors under your carpeting.) 3. Let the ice cubes rest on the carpet for several hours or overnight, at least until cubes are completely melted. 4. Allow the carpet to dry completely. 5. Vacuum the carpet in the areas where you set the ice cubes. 6. Carpet fibers should now be returned to their normal upright position. If they're still lying down, fluff them up with your finger tips. 7. Reapply ice cubes if needed. 8. Please read important TIPS below. Tips: 1. ALWAYS test this method first with one ice cube in an inconspicuous spot. Lift carpet corner to see that the water hasn't damaged the under flooring. 2. Be CAREFUL if you have wood floors underneath! Test first to make sure moisture does not damage the wood! 3. DO NOT use this method on hand dyed rugs, antique carpets, delicate or valuable rugs, or on fibers not compatible with water cleaning.

Q: Candle wax has dripped onto our carpet and we need a way of removing it without destroying the carpet.: Using an iron and brown paper works excellent as a first step and after that if some wax still remains use a product called Goo B Gone sold in the market and hardware stores. Works excellent for lipstick, adhesives and other stains for clothing, carpets and on objects. Although if your carpet is wool it is tricky to get all of the wax stain out.

Q: my boyfriend tipped over his Hookah and burnt tons of tiny holes in his carpet, some just surface burns and some are somewhat deep, and theyre over about a 2 foot span, and all smaller than a dime. What is a non-costly way to fix the problem?We are going to try to trim some of the surface burns. The carpet is older than my boyfriend (so its 18+ years old) and they have no scraps.: go to carpet store find some close matching piece tell them what your looking for then ask to talk to there carpet installer ask how much he will charge to take some carpet out of the closet and seam it in the burnt area and replace the closet carpet with what you bought no doubt this is a aparment and you dont want to buy them new carpet even though its probally shot like my apt carpet was had a dog that tore up some by a door and thats what i did

If you ever drop something like that again (a dry powder), vacuum it up first. Then, use the carpet stain remover. good luck.

Q: I'm on a tight budget, so I can't afford an area rug. But I'd like one in a half-moon shape with my bed on top. Would there be any problems making a sort of decorative-rug out of fabric from someplace like Jo-annes? Just sew and go, right?And if there's not some glaring oversight I'm missing in that idea, what sort of fabric? Upholstery? Outdoors? Quilting?: Check used items ads in your area for quilting fabrics, rugs. Also, Habitat for Humanity ReStores is a good source. Good Luck

Q: I've just bought a 15.2hh Welsh Section D! :) He's my first horse and he didn't come with any rugs, so I need to buy them all! He'll be stabled at night and out during the day.I plan to buy: two fleeces, a show fleece, a medium weight stable rug, a lightweight turnout and a mediumweight turnout rug.Will he be warm enough?: If you really think you need a turnout rug for your Welsh Cob then you will need to measure him. My loan pony is a Welsh Section D and she doesn't need a rug she is absouloutley fine Welsh Section D's don't have turnout rugs in the wild and they don't need them (unless your horse is clipped) But I think a show fleece and a stable rug would be a good idea xx

Q: I used a carpet shampooer along with a solution of natures miracle and a small scoop of oxy clean to clean my carpets. My cat had peed a spot in one of my rooms, so i just went ahead and shampooed all the carpet areas. I know that the Nature's miracle says that the carpet has to be 100% dry for the odors to go away. Well it has been over a week and I have noticed that everywhere I shampooed now smells horribly like cat urine! It is overwhelming! The carpet shampooer is kind of old, it was given to me, and I am wondering if it had some odors in it. I took the shampooer outside and took it apart and sprayed it with vinegar but I am scared to use it again because i think that it distributed the urine odor all over my house :( I don't know what to do, the cat urine odor is just everywhere now! What do i do to get rid of it....do i just need to get a new shampooer?: To freshen carpets, sometimes I use baking soda and a few drops of essential oils. I put about half a cup or so of baking soda in a container (jar or bowl that I use for that purpose only) then, add a few drops of your favorite scented oil. (You can get it at places where they sell scented candles). After adding the scented oil, shake or stir to distribute. Wait a few minutes, then sprinkle the mixture onto carpets. The mixture should be quite dry, not wet, so use only about 4 or 5 drops of the scented oil. Let it sit on carpets for about an hour. Then vacuum. Baking soda is a natural odor absorber.
