- Q: The area of a rug is 108 square feet and the length of its diagonal is 15 feet. Find the length and width of the rug.I don't really need an answer, but the process I would use to get the answer would be helpful. I'm assuming you have to wet up two equations to solve it. If anyone could help, it would be well appreciated. There's a picture in the book of a rectangular rug with the diagonal going through it.

- Q: I spilled Coca-cola on my area rug. The rug is relatively inexpensive and I've never spilled liquid on it. I decided it would be a brilliant idea to sop up as much liquid as I could with a towel and paper towels and then pour baking soda all over it, which I then proceeded to rub in. (I know, idiotic). The stain is now hard and crusty and I cant seem to vacuum it out. Any advice?
- Not all is lost. Break up the crusties as much as possible and vacuum, probably just use the hose, not the various heads. Keep doing this until you'd removed as much as possible. If you have a clothes brush, use that to help as you vacuum. When you've done as much as you can, time to switch methods: first put a towel, shower curtain or whatever under your throw rug as you don't want to ruin the floor under neath.......if vinyl.......relax. Anyway. Make a solution of OxyClean.....I'd say a scoop to a quart of warm water.....mix well and then apply it to the stain.........if your carpet doesn't have latex on the back and you can move it to the tub.....pour the Oxyclean over the stain. Otherwise pour a bit on.......1/4 cup or so, rub with your fingers and immediately begin blotting it out with a clean towel......white or light colored just in case you get a color run from the towel. Repeat applying and blotting it up. That should do it. I doubt you'll need the whole quart. OH yes, finish with a clear water rinse and plenty of blotting. Check the towel or whatever underneath and replace it if wet. Let the rug air dry. No hair dryers as heat will set stains. Of course we hope like anything the OxyClean doesn't remove the color from your rug.....if you have bright colors.....use a weaker solution. OxyClean ihydrogenen peroxide which will bleach colors if in a very concentrated formula which it in the in the original mixture I mentioned.

- Have you asked the carpet stores that you were already to if they could order the white carpet for you? I wouldn't think that should be a big deal at all. A lot of carpet stores may not have all colors of carpeting available on sight. They should have plenty of samples for you to look at and you choose the one you want. If you don't see it in the store, that doesn't mean they can't order it for you. There shouldn't be an extra charge for ordering the carpet you want.
- Q: After two weeks I am filling up my bagless vacuum cleaner compartment with carpet fibers. It's not the loop that is coming out it's fiber. You can also take the toe of a rubber soled shoe and scrape it across the carpet and get the same results. Is this normal for this carpet? The store owner talked me into this and though it looks great and feels good to walk on what's it going to look like in a year?
- Hi There are two ways to make carpet fibres. The first way, which it sounds like the way yours, is made. When they make the fibre yarn for this carpet they take small pieces of yarn and spin them into a thread. At this point they make the carpet fibre from the thread. This is why you are having the fluff problem with this carpet, which is normal for this type because of the small fibre yarns. This does not affect the carpet in any way. The second type of carpet made, they use a continuous fibre yarn, which does not use short pieces of yarn when thy make the thread. This one will no make as much fluff. Carpet cleaner for 14 years

- I use homemade carpet cleaner in my Bissell ProHeat. I grate a bar of Zote--or use 1 Tbsp. Zote flakes mix with about 2 cups hot water. You would want the mix to sit for a while, or even put it in a jar shake it, to get the chunks/flakes to dissolve. I use this recipe find it is just as good, if not better, than the expensive store-bought stuff.

- Wow that sounds just like what my puppy did,but of course they were way bigger.I really hate to contradict everyone else who answered but they were only half right. Cutting patches from inconspicuous areas is the right thing to do but using glue isn't. If it were they would install carpeting in houses using glue.You wont see that happening ever unless it was outside carpeting for a patio.Reason is it wouldn't be on there very long with traffic due to people walking on it, and use from the vacuum cleaner. The glue would not hold. That is why they sew carpet when they have to use two separate pieces to finish a room. Or to patch it. If you will be happy with the temporary fix and don't mind doing it over in about two weeks then go for it. If not you will need to sew your little patches. I sewed mine as I could not afford new carpet but couldn't stand to see it with holes in it. Either way, I hope it works out for you.

It lays as flat and tight as the day it was put in. - Carpet restretching could be necessary from poor installation, the carpet not being stretched enough when it was installed, but it can also be caused by the carpet backing stretching. Carpet backing can stretch from being poorly made, or from humidity or temperature fluctuations. Sometimes even well made and properly installed carpet needs to be restretched. Sometimes poorly made and poorly installed carpet never needs to be restretched. Few carpets besides wool would last 45 years, congrats on keeping your carpet going for so long!
