- I had the same problem with a wide shag rug that I easily have. I filled up my bath bath with water and extra some laundry detergent and form of hand washed it. I then took the rug out of the water, enable the water drain, filled the tub again with in simple terms water and placed the rug again in. I did this some more beneficial situations till i concept each of the cleansing soap had rinsed out. This did make a mess of my bathing room, even if it were given the rug searching and smelling new. i became shocked when I considered each of the airborne dirt and dirt and stuff contained in the water. It became quite gross. I then hung the rug outside contained in the solar to dry.

- Treating any carpet stain depends on what your carpet is made of. If it's wool or another natural fiber, it will be harder to treat these stains. If it's synthetic (most wall-to-wall carpet falls into this category), you may have an easier time. A diluted solution of brake cleaner, which contains the same chemicals that professional dry cleaning incorporates, will work to remove most food stains. This is a nasty chemical, and you have to consider whether you want the fumes in your house -- but it will do the job better than off-the-shelf carpet cleaning products. Whatever solvent you try, the method is to blot up as much of the stain as you can, wet it (with water or a cleaning solution), and blot some more. Don't rub, as this will abrade the carpet fibers and work the stain in deeper. I would try plain water on the shampoo stain before anything else. For the nail polish on the floor -- depends on what kind of floor surface you are talking about. You might try applying a non-acetone nail polish remover *just* to the polish spot, with a Q-tip. Avoid using an acetone-based remover (will damage almost any surface). If your floor is vinyl or laminate (engineered faux wood), you may have better luck trying to gently scrape it off with a table knife. Finally, if you have wall-to-wall carpeting, a professional carpet steaming service is a pretty good buy for the kind of results you get (and the work you save yourself). Consider spending a couple hundred bucks and skipping all the work. Good luck!
- Q: I have 5 kids and we rent our house .well it got so bad we rented a rug doctor it took so much of the dirt out I couldn't belive how dirty the water was. - carpet always smells like a wet dog. lol You can rent the rug doctor again but this time when after you shampoo... rinse with vinegar water. this will help remove soap residue and help keep your carpet from picking up more dirt that sticks to soap.

- Wow that sounds just like what my puppy did,but of course they were way bigger.I really hate to contradict everyone else who answered but they were only half right. Cutting patches from inconspicuous areas is the right thing to do but using glue isn't. If it were they would install carpeting in houses using glue.You wont see that happening ever unless it was outside carpeting for a patio.Reason is it wouldn't be on there very long with traffic due to people walking on it, and use from the vacuum cleaner. The glue would not hold. That is why they sew carpet when they have to use two separate pieces to finish a room. Or to patch it. If you will be happy with the temporary fix and don't mind doing it over in about two weeks then go for it. If not you will need to sew your little patches. I sewed mine as I could not afford new carpet but couldn't stand to see it with holes in it. Either way, I hope it works out for you.

- The trick is to use an iron on a medium to low setting. If it is a lot of wax, use an old towel instead of a paper sack so it doesn't spread over a larger area of carpet. Be especially careful if it is colored wax.
