- Q: What's the difference between concrete and cement?
- Concrete is cement that contains stones, gravel sand.
- Q: It's gray and turns all hard, where do they get the ingredients and how come there never seems to be a short supply of it?
- Cement should not be confused with concrete. The term cement refers only to the dry powder substance used to bind the aggregate materials of concrete. Upon the addition of water and/or additives the cement mixture is referred to as concrete, especially if aggregates have been added.
- Q: should i get white cement 4's or galaxy foamposites?
- The white cement 4's because its gonna be hella hard to get ur hands on the galaxy foamposites there gonna be super limited quick strike but good luck on all accounts.
- Q: The house was built in 1925 without foundation tile, over the years whatever was painted over the brick interior walls has bubbled because of the moisture that would have been diverted by an appropriate ditch around the foundation, or tiles to drain it, etc. Several of these bubbles are basketball in size, and there are cracks in many areas of the stucco-like stuff that chips off in large pieces. I want to patch it up, and repaint, what is that stuff called? It looks like cement when chipped off, is it joint compound? How should I go about this? Moisture problems have been aleviated, now I just need to fix the cosmetics.
- It's a special type of waterproofing finish that is meant for block walls--probably a type of stucco with added plastic compounds that make it impervious to water. You can't use joint compound---it's not meant to be applied over block, stone, or brick. You have to use a grout-like substance--something that contains an adhesive to make it stick, and some additional ingredients to keep it from absorbing water. Go to your local box store, hardware or construction store and ask them what they would recommend--take a piece of the chipped off stuff with you so they can identify what is already on the walls. Then use a waterproof basement paint to finish it off after you patch. I gotta tell you, though--if you have a problem UNDER the stuff now, (because it's bubbling and cracking) you won't get rid of that problem by patching--you may have to get a pro in there to waterproof and seal the block from scratch. And that's a lot of $$.
- Q: Does anyone have a clue?
- Portland cement is staight-up cement powder - pure and simple. It is mixed with sand and water. That's all they used many years ago. The vast majority of people these days use Ready-mix Cement which is mixed with water. Cement powder is only known as Portland Cement.
- Q: Should I be a Stonemason or a Cement Mason?
- Not sure if this fits in Hobbies Crafts, but my impression is that a Stone Mason is a skilled profession requiring a fair amount of training to claim that title and a Cement Finisher is a far lower level common labor job - I had to do my own cement framing and finishing while redoing my garage in sections, and while I hated the work involved, I didn't encounter surprises from the information dragged from the Internet.
- Q: The molars are the ones that hurt, my braces dont hurt as much now. I can't bite down on anything because of the ketac cement they placed on my rigth and left top molar. Is this normal, will the pain ever go away so that I can chew my food. I can't chew on anything. I got my braces on a Friday and it's Tuesday and the cement still hurts.
- I had cement put on molars too, to stop top and bottom brackets clashing. Are you definitely sure it's the cement which hurts, because it's not meant to? And chewing, despite feeling no pain, will be quite hard, that won't go away until the cement is removed. Edit: Not to sound a little big-headed, but I think it's purely because the brace is doing its work. Your back teeth, molars especially, hurt a lot longer than the other teeth. I've had top and bottom braces, and in both instances, the back, bigger teeth have hurt for a good week longer than the rest. I'd advise you sit it out till this Sunday. If the pain continues, or hasn't softened, I'd seek help then. But I have honestly found that big back teeth hurt especially more.
- Q: How thick should cement be for a driveway?
- 5 to 6 inches
- Q: Tell me about PVC cement glue?
- thick, thin, medium. cleaner comes in purple and clear basicly softens the pvc then it welds together. should always use cleaner.. careful on the purple.. it stains. there is also cleaner and glue for cpvc which is potable safe.. used for drinking water lines or other supply lines. most common is orange. remember the cpvc stuff for drinking/use
- Q: I am renovating a house and need to remove some cement/plaster. I do not want to break it off or saw it away. I have tried vinegar, hot water, olive oil. Is there any way to soften cement/plaster that has set?
- No such luck. The only way to remove it is to dig it up, smash it, cut it off. It's component uses water to create it. It is used to make foundations so it is made to withstand anything on the planet.
