- Q: I am interested in putting siding on my house. What are the pros and cons to fiber-cement siding? Also, how much is it usually? And does it look give the same look as vinyl? And most importantly how much will this improve my property value? dollar for dollar? more or less?
- Only con is it is difficult to cut, need to purchase the correct saw blade. It is very stable with changes in temperature, unlike vinyl siding. It does have a similar appearance and will increase the value of your home more than vinyl would. I think that vinyl should decrease the value, it is just not a good material for siding. Have worked many days on repairing vinyl siding that is coming loose. I plan on using cement board siding when I replace the siding on my home. Price is very good right now for cement board, about the same price as the cheap masonite lap siding.
- Q: Is there any way to remove rubber cement stains? From clothes and carpet?
- Rubber cement may be a great tool as an adhesive, but when that adhesive turns into a stained mess on your fancy tablecloth or carpet it's not that great anymore. Removing unwanted rubber cement stains takes time and patience along with a few simple tools.
- Q: i am having a fence installed, i have quotes from 2 different contractors... one pounds the posts into the ground, the other cements each post into the ground, how deep either go i am not sure... but which way would be more secure long term? the posts are the same as used for a chain link fence (steel posts)... thanks
- id go with the cement.. if it wasnt too expensive. if you were using t-posts for barbed wire id pound them in.
- Q: im building a fish pond and the onl way i can line it completly floor to wall is with cement rocks wont stick in a liner but ive heard the cement will contamnat the water was wondering if i could eliminate the cement toxin or if there is any compound similar to cement that wont put contaminates in the water
- Why don't you just build a swimming pool and put fish in it? Same difference.
- Q: I skateboard and snowboard, and falling on the cement, or falling in the snow doesn't hurt nearly as much as falling on strait ice, like in an ice-skating rink. Why is that?
- snow has a lot of air between the snow particles, so your fall is cushioned...(in physics terms, the time it takes the snow to bring your speed to zero is longer therefore it requires less force) however, I am not sure about ice vs. cement...cement hurts pretty badly...maybe you are feeling the effects of the cold? not really sure how to explain your experiences on ice, but falling on cement is something I would definitely try to avoid
- Q: my orthodontist had to put some blue cement glue on my back two molars after putting my braces on. Any reason why they do this? They also had to drill some of it down, and in the process, his assistant accidentally hit the molar in front of it and chipped it! The size of the chip is fairly insignifcant, but it really piss es me off. My main question is, how will they get this cement out of my teeth? Will it just fall out or will they have to file it down with that drill?I'm really scared of them drilling my teeth anymore because I don't want them to chip anymore of my surrounding teeth.
- My three kids have braces. If I remember right, the blue stuff was their to keep the bite from messing with the new fixtures. Only temporary. I think they had theirs lazered off. None of them mentioned anything about drilling, only that it smelled funny when it was removed.
- Q: I have a brick fireplace that has been painted a really ugly color by the previous owners. I'm not sure if I should persue the tedious task of re-painting all the bricks , or if there is something I can cover it with. A friend suggested cement board...???... Is this the only product or is there another that would also work??
- Repainting the fireplace is actually rather easy. Make sure to use a high temperature paint designed for it like Brick-Anew. Otherwise the heat will make the paint bubble and flake off making it look like crap again. Good luck.
- Q: What is water/cement ratio?
- some of one and a bit of the other
- Q: The cement I'm wondering about it 3 feet deep and 2 feet wide. I'm wondering how long it takes to dry completely??Thanks!
- it could take up to a week for how deep it is
- Q: Why does the cement tanker have a distinct shape?
- Tankers for shipping dry cement on roadways are basically hoppers on wheels. Their shape reflects the desire to empty the tank purely under the influence of gravity. I suspect the slope of the ends is just steep enough to ensure clean, complete dumping.
