Q: I just moved into apartment but not happy with the carpet and I am thinkinag of replacing it before I by furniture! Any eastimat for how long I expect this project should take!?any eastmat for how much it will cost to replace 1000 ft place including removing old carpet!
An empty place the carpet can be done , ripped out and replaced in a day with a 2 man crew. A one person operation may take 2 days. That you can find out when you schedule the job. With rip out , disposal, new carpet and installation, your looking at 3000$ ( +- of course) . This is based on the 1000 s/f you say. This may not be all carpet.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: Is it possible to make a shag rug for a bedroom out of that faux fur you see in fabric stores? If so, whats the best way to go about it? I was just going to get a yard or so and put some no-slip mat under it but maybe there are better ideas? Is there any reason this is a bad idea? Let me know. Thanks!
His skin is irritated and itches, and the only way a dog can scratch is by using their teeth. There are many reasons that the skin can be irritated, so take him into the vet and have them look at it. Without a vet looking at it, there is no real way to know what the cause of the problem is.
Q: Im a single mum of three and a student so you can probably guess that i don't have alot of money!I went to a carpet store and they said that i could carpet a room using felt back carpet which the fitters can use glue to put down because felt back carpets don't require underlay.right now that seems to be my only option.i just wanted to know if anyone has a carpet that doesn't have any underlay and if is worth doing it??
For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/awSTS Just to make sure you don't get confused by responses of other answerer's. No, you may not install wall to wall carpeting over a laminate floor. It would be a mess and a headache you don't want. It's a floating floor it's not attached to the floor pick up the laminate and foam and throw it away. Loose lay or double faced tape idea is the only option to leave laminate in place if for some reason it's a have to situation that I can truly understand. Your manufacture's warranty's are in place for a reason. To give you a length of time to expect your carpeting to last. With proper installation methods. Including a wear warranty and texture retention warranty. Both of those would be void if the carpet is not installed with a minimum 6 lb density foam pad for cut pile carpet or 20oz felt pad for looped carpet over a stable substrate. Unless of course it is installed using a gluedown method with an adhesive. I don't believe you would be able to find a glue that would adhere to the laminate surface without being really toxic. Good Luck with your project it will be worth it in the end. Both Shaw and Mohawk's websites would be helpful to you in making your selections and getting information. You can also check with the Carpet and Rug Institute's website for more information.
Q: my carpets are very dirty.
If the professional guarantees to get your carpets cleaned, it might be wroth it. It has been my experience, that they come in and go over the room once, and that's all you get. They do spot treat stains. We do it our selves, and we can keep going until the used water is not black, more of a khaki color. I know I have removed mos of the dirt when the water is just a little discolored and doesn't have actual dirt in it. Carpets are filthy, and collect everything that walks int he door. I also have a family member who uses a power wheel chair, and that thing isn't clean either. Mats at the door ill collect most of the dirt that comes in, but they are slippery for W/c's so I can't use them. :-( I use Bissell's carpet shampoo, as it has removed things that Rug Doctor shampoo missed, and I thought were permanent stains.
Q: where can i find a lanolin rug?
Lanolin okorder / ...
Q: what is the difference between steam cleaninig and deep cleaning? I don't think we have very dirty carpet but it was always suggested by our carpet cleaner (by the way - I hate how they always upsell their services). anyways - I want to have another carpet cleaning soon in the spring and would like to be more educated about this.Bottom line is - if 'steaming cleaning' does not clean... why bother having such service in the first place?
There are many ways to clean carpets. One is where they APPLY a dry cleaning agent on your carpet, agitate the chemical into the carpet fibers and then vacuum it up. I do not prefer this method. The one I prefer is Steam Cleaning. But be sure it is a truck mount - so that it has enough suction to remove all detergents. Don't rent the steam cleaners at the super markets - all they will do is ruin your carpets because they don't have enough power to clean and/or remove the cleaning chemicals. STEAM CLEAN - IT'S THE BEST!
Q: My son got orange marker on our carpet, (which is the longer strand kind). I went to my old standby stain remover of vinegar baking soda which I've never had any issues with until now. Now the orange marker is gone but I have a fairly large spot that's now much lighter than the rest of the carpet! And the spot cannot be easily covered and is in a very visible place. Please help!
Most carpet is made from nylon or polyester, and the color is inside the fiber -- if you bleached a lighter spot with baking soda and vinegar (very weak acid), I opine that what you really did was clean grime from the carpet - it's almost impossible to bleach color out of hard synthetic fiber. Try renting a carpet cleaning machine from the grocery or tool rental store, and put some vinegar in with the hot water and detergent. Won't hurt the carpet, and might resolve the problem. If your carpet is very old or very expensive, it might be wool, but very little wool carpet can be found anymore -- it's just too expensive.
Q: I am going to pay to have my carpets cleaned. What is your opinion on the best way/method and service? (USA)
You're wasting your money having someone else clean them. You can do it pretty cheap following the following plan. Use a deep/steam cleaner, but only after you've dealt with stains. Otherwise the deep cleaner might help them to set in. I bought my deep cleaner for $100 at meijer. The only way I would have spent more money is if the cleaner had a real good moving brush, but I just use a carpet sweeper to brush stains. To save a bundle of money using the deep cleaner, don't buy expensive deep cleaner detergent. Just use the low-suds laundry detergent you already have at home! I do this every time and it works just fine. To clean up other stains, you might have to look up the source of the stain online. For animal stains, get enzymes that break down the odor-causing chemicals. For red wine, mix detergent and hydrogen peroxide and soak a little. This works really really well at breaking down the tannins in red wine. Peroxide works on some other stains too. Spot Shot is the best I've seen for general spots, it comes in a blue and orange bottle.
Q: I am having new vinyl flooring installed in the bathroom and I know that rubber or latex backed rugs can stain the floor yellow. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Have you considered a foam backed bamboo rug? This won't yellow the floor and it won't slip and slide either. A rug with no backing is NOT a good idea in a bathroom. As for a rubber backed rug, if you only leave it on the floor when you use it after a shower or bath and keep it on the rim of the tub the rest of the time, it will take years and years and years before the flooring is yellowed... It's leaving it on the floor all the time that yellow the flooring...
Q: I have an approximately 2'x2' section of carpet that is snagged and needs to be replaced.
While the repair may never be invisible, remove a 2' by 2' section from a closet or hidden area and use this piece as a templet to remove the damaged area. Place double stick tape on the floor around the cut area and insert the replacement piece. Of course it is best to use a hot glue or seam iron. replace the hidden are with the damaged piece
