Q: i am going to buy a second hand generator which is 108kva diesel enginehow can i test it so i know it starts but also is capable of running around 80-100kvai want to make sure it is strong and still working and not that it just startsplease help thankssam
You need to load test it and operate it to test both the power output of the diesel, and the condition of the generator.See if you can rent the use of a salt box to load test the generator.or see if the seller will allow you to hook it up to your equipment at your place and see if it will carry the load under real world test conditions. Note, a marine electrical shop,or motor rewind facility should have a salt box. Call and ask them
Q: I have a generator overseas and it has been giving me problems. It ran for 7 days, died due to over heat. fixed that prob, now it wont start, gives me a code 0097 01, water in fuel. but the sensor is good, wires read good. At a brick wall here.
I looked online and this company makes everything from small gas driven to large diesel driven. You say the code is for water in the fuel and if it's diesel water would ruin the injectors so it very well could not allow it to start for that reason. At a minion you need to tell us a little more. Did it shut its self down for the over heat or did it size and shut down? that is a good point to start with.
Q: What will be the effect of ambient temperature on diesel generators
Here the user should pay attention to the configuration of the unit, the unit needs to configure the optional billing
Q: I Live In Westchester NY, and ever since the Nuclear power plant in Japan went into meltdown I've been pretty worried about what would happen if Indian Point went into meltdown. Now Hurricane Irene is coming, Is it strong enough to cause a meltdown? Thanks in advance

Q: a falling waterb burning coalc sunlightd gasoline or diesel fuel
most likely d. gasoline or diesel fuel
Q: I know that there is a possibility of explosion, but other than that what makes it such a dangerous job? how else to people get hurt in this line of work? I've always wanted to know this, but I never had anyone to ask!
I worked as a geologist for a major oil company and you are overstating the danger. The worst thing I saw was a sprained back from a fall. Relax, oil exploration is fun and rewarding, as well as lucrative for the 'ol wallet.
Q: Aside from Northern Lights. I'm already aware.
Yanmar, Onan, Yamaha, Honda, Cummins, Caterpillar, Farymann Marine, Isuzu, Detroit Diesel, Deutz, John Deere, Lister, Mitsubishi, Perkins, Kubota, Volvo, Fiat, Lincoln, Susuki, Kawasaki etc. And ten thousand Chinese things that apparently you can even get a run named after yourself! Thats of the top of my head - there are hundreds I have never heard of or just can't remember right now. Good luck. Stick to good locally serviced brands for any warranty claims and you can't go wrong.
Q: Does anyone currently live off grid?If so, what type of alternate power system(s) are you using?Solar? ---(I think very expensive and in this part of the country, not enough sun.)Hydro-electric? ---(may be a viable choice if I have enough current running through my stream and or enough head from a waterfall)Wind? --- (If It is installed high enough and does not obscure.)Diesel Generator---(may be ok if underground, low speed, water cooled)We are planning to build a log home in up-state Pa. as a second home for now, but our primary residence in a few years. Thanks in advance for your answers!Newt
i don't know about your possibilities where you are but i would definitely suggest using as much natural lighting as possible and the alternate wood heating furnaces available
Q: I want to build an electric generator from an electric motor, how do I do this?I need planes on how to build a generator from an electric motor. I am wanted to use a 16 HP Power Diesel tractor motor. Can any one help? I am useing Diesel power because diesel fuel last longer than gas when in storage. Is this correct?I want a AC Generator.
Very simple. You need an electric motor of the same wattage as you need to generate. You will need to spin the motor a little faster than the rated RPM of the motor. (pick your pulleys carefully) Hook a small load up to the motor, spin it, hit it with a jolt of voltage. (try your 12 volt battery)It should start to generate and you can hook up a bigger load to it. Too simple? Try it.
Q: I understand it as far as the diesel engine driving the generator- or is it an alternator?- to power the motors which turn the wheels. But does each wheel have its own motor, or is it one motor per axle?
Diesel-electric locomotives most commonly use one traction motor per axle, with the motor shaft parallel to and beside the wheel axle and with a simple pair of gears connecting the two. Early diesel-electric locomotives used a DC generator that directly fed DC traction motors, with the generator often doubling as a starter motor. By the 1970s, locomotives commonly used alternators (which were easier to maintain) that generated AC current, which was rectified back to DC to power the same DC traction motors as before. The EMD GP38 was notably produced with both a generator and an alternator, with the alternator-powered version called the GP38AC. AC traction motors became commonplace in the early to mid 1990s - but they do not use the electricity produced by the alternator directly as it is not of the correct frequency. The AC power from the alternator is first rectified to DC, then (using inverters) back to AC current of the correct frequency for the traction motors. GE locomotives use one inverter per traction motor, while all but the most recent EMD locomotives used one inverter per truck. The traction motors are readily visible on six-axle units such as recent EMD SD series locomotives or GE Dash-9 and AC units. These locomotives all have traction motors that face inwards, so that they all face the same direction on each truck. On the innermost axle they extend considerably beyond rim of the wheels toward the fuel tank, visible in this photo I took of an EMD SD40-2: trainiax /photos/2013/2013-05- To account for the different current and resistance characteristics of the electric motors at low and high speed, locomotives have one or several transitions between wiring the motors in series or in parallel, or in a combination of both.
