Utilidors is an acronym for Utility Corridors. This may be a tunnel system that contains all the necessary utilities to support a community, business of some other area needing electric, gas, water, sewer, communications, etc. These are found both above and below ground level depending on environmental concerns, costs, etc. The generators and transformers used to supply various points along the corridor and may be located above or below ground depending on design. A UG designed transformer for instance could be used below ground. A generator needs to be driven by something, gas engine, turbine, diesel engine, etc. these may be located below ground but it will have to have an external exhaust port somewhere. Is this generator going to be used in a location which is normally served by grid power. If so is it proposed to use the distribution system normally used when on the grid? If the answer to these questions is yes. The first step is to isolate the normal energy source. This has two purposes. a) to protect your equipment when power is restored and b) to protect people and equipment working on the external circuit. Once this is isolated wire the generator into the circuit (closing isolating switch if hard wired). Start the generator using normal procedures with minimal load in place. Slowly increase load until desired effect is achieved. When external power is returned. Slowly reduce load and isolate generator. Restore normal grid connection. Shut off generator.

You start by asking yourself questions. What sort of lifestyle do I want/need? Do I care about resale value? What can I maintain myself? What sort of maintenance do I want to do? In general keep it simple. The less moving parts/systems the less that can break. Quality pays but buying it at discount also pays. Long term cost of operation is also important. You cannot do too much research. There is an overload of help forums on the web, some interactive, but a lot of reviews. The boat is a tool, make it fit the job and your hand.

I used to work at a nuclear plant. Electricity is used to provide water to cool the fuel rods. If electricity goes out for any reason, backup diesel generators kick on to provide the power to run the pumps. A battery system would run the control instruments. Also if the diesel generators went out they would use a battery backup for that as well. The safe area would depend upon the type of plant and system used to cool the rods. Generally if there was a complete failure of all systems you would have one day to evacuate the area. At the plant I worked at a 20 mile radius was considered the unsafe zone. Much would depend upon the direction of the wind at the time of any release of radiation. If you are extremely worried you can buy some pills containing potassium iodide that you could take in an emergency to protect your thyroid temporarily. Most plants have built in security measures to prevent the release of radiation in case of a problem. Truthfully most reactors have a tower which releases small amounts of radiation at regular intervals. So chances are that you are already being exposed to very small harmless doses without knowing it. Radiation is normally not harmful unless you are close to it or you get a large dose. We are all exposed to some type of radiation daily. Radiation doesn't always kill. Sometimes it does nothing to your cells and occasionally it can even be beneficial to cells.

Diesel submarines that were used during WWII actually have two different types of engines. The main Diesel engine, and an electric one. When a boat submerges they use the electric engines only, these usually only have an hour or so worth of power. Once they resurface they fire up the diesel. They are stuck on the surface until the electric engines are re-charged by the diesel. Prior to the advent of the nuclear submarine (which can remain submerged almost indefinitely), the submarine spent most of its time on the surface like any other ship.

machines are not design to run for month of course yes. Most common I know is diesel generators. But if you have fuel gas much better as gas normally has lower operating pressure and much pure in composition so lesser maintenance in the end. But not seen any caterpillar of gas design.

You can use a diesel generator set to generate power and the exhaust to heat or boil water. You could also use an air craft derivative gas turbine converted to diesel or jet fuel and make steam or hot water with the exhaust.

If you mean, 40 KVa generator,you may be able to run it by a water wheel, but you need a water discharge head of 50 to 100 ft. Most developed hydroelectric power have discharge heads of 300 ft.
Q:How does a generator work in a geothermal power plant? ?
Electrical power plants powered by geothermal energy are common in areas of high crustal heat flow, such as in Iceland, New Zealand, and the western US, including Beowawe, Nevada, and The Geysers, California. The basic principle is to drill a hole deep enough to tap into a water reservoir which is hotter than 100°C, ie, higher than the boiling point. The water is hotter than the boiling point due to the confining pressure, and the water is piped into a turbine where it is allowed to flash (boil) to drive the turbne. The steam is collected, condensed, and re-injected into the reservoir to keep the cycle going. The turbine spins a generator, which converts mechanical energy from the spinning turbine into electrical energy through electromagnetic conduction as the desired output. It doesn't matter that the generator is connected to a geothermal steam turbine, a water wheel, a jet engine, a diesel engine, or a hamster wheel. A generator does not actually ‘create’ electrical energy. Instead, it uses the mechanical energy from the spinning turbine to force the movement of electric charges present in the wire of its windings through an external electric circuit. This flow of electric charges constitutes the output electric current supplied by the generator. This mechanism can be compared to a water pump, which causes the flow of water but does not actually ‘create’ the water flowing through it. A generator works on the principle of electromagnetic induction discovered by Michael Faraday in 1831-32. He discovered that the flow of electric charges could be induced by moving an electrical conductor, such as a wire that contains electric charges, in a magnetic field. This movement creates a voltage difference between the two ends of the wire or electrical conductor, which in turn causes the electrons to flow, thus generating the desired electric current.
