Q:For anyone well up on EMD E and F units: saw a rather frightful picture last night of an F unit slamming into a switcher. not pretty ofcourse. it was on a curve so the F unit fell to her side to the outside of the curve. but not before breaking in half right behind the cab. the picture caption remarked that this was a common feature of the Es and Fs. By design? for safety? or design flaw? first time id seen this type of damage to an F, and certainly have never heard this comment of them. can someone clarify please? Couple days ago i was doing some reminiscing of railfanning way back in the day. i was fondly thinking of the great time i had with the crews. got to thinking about more of the details. all the stuff they had shown me. then something popped into my head. torpedoes! back then, scary lil devices to me! but rightlyfully so. so while im here in questions, are track torpedoes still used (when needed)? are they still around? havent seen one in quite along time since ive thought about it.thank you!

Q:Does any one know the best way to go about have an entire house run off of a generator? Mostly likely over periods of no great than two weeks. But it needs to supply a Washer/Dryer, Central A/C, Water Heater, and all of the basics of a smaller house. I did the math and the math says the max I will need is apprx 13,500W. I've done a lot of research on portable, residential, and even green energy, but I am having trouble finding the best way to go about powering a house continually. I need something relatively quiet, or something I can run a ways from the house.And lastly one more curve ball, this is for west TX, so there's not too much rain, especially these days. But it is a desert atmosphere, so I need a way to keep it out of the elements. Any suggestions? Well ventilated shed maybe? Thanks!
Generators run on gasoline or diesel. There just isn't enough energy in a lead acid battery to run a house. You would need a bank of batteries and an inverter to convert the DC to AC,and some way to recharge the batteries. The cost would be prohibitive. Most backup generators run on gasoline and will power some of the appliances in a house. Don't expect to use an electric dryer, stove, washing machine or dishwasher. You might be able to run a TV, refrigerator, lights, a computer, and a radio.

Sounds like a ford industrial unit. There SHOULD be a number or number plate somewhere on the block, generator, and/or frame. A possible search, assuming it is a generator unit, would be the GENERATOR manufacturer.

there is a saying a watt is a watt and never changes what will change is the current 1000 watts divided by 110 voltage equals 9.03 amps 1000 watts divided by 220 voltage equals 4.46 amps buth are 1000 watts if you dont believe me try it backwards multiply the volts by the amps of each line and the answer will come out both times to 1000 more or less cos i kept the calcs to two decimal places

By the revolutions of the generator, or the (presuming AC output) frequency of the power generated. If the frequency is low, the revolutions are low. If the revolutions drop off when load is added, or frequency falls, you have a problem. somewhere.
Q:I Have an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with the chipset fan going at over 6000 RPM, an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ with the CPU fan at about 3000 RPM, and a GeForce 6200LE with a very high pitched fan that's dead annoying. To cut a long story short, my PC makes way more noise than it should be, now I don't have any case fans installed but that shouldn't mean that it has to make this sort of howling, believe me, if you were sitting next to it, you'd understand where I'm comin from, it's like tryin to sleep at night with a diesel generator in your room while it's downloading stuff. The fans shouldn't need to spin that fast as the average temp is about 30-40 degrees Celsius across all the components. Anyone know what I should try? Cheers Sam The Bam
get yourself a better graphics card cos they are the main culprits. and look at your make of fan cos am sure theres better ones out there for the model of pc your using. hope that helped mate.

Q:How does a throttle actuator/control for a generator know to increase decrease throttle based on electrical current demand?I’m thinking of building a DC generator using a diesel engine and a PMAC motor but am confused as to how I will vary the engine speed automatically to meet the varying current demand. If you use an automobile generator you can use an automotive regulator to provide a constant DC voltage. These alternators are made to operate at varying RPM's and load and the regulator can be made adjustable to produce any desired voltage. (up to 40 or so volts)
Q:I am designing the system to produce electricity for a computer room with 40 PC and 40 LCD screens. The needed power is about 15 KW (20 hp). My system consists of a compressor, a compressed air tank, a turbocharger and a mini gas turbine. I will talk a little bit about the operation: the air is released from the tank and driven by ducting system to turbocharger, at which the air flow is through turbocharger and run turbine to produce electricity. I have searched in internet many times about the turbine but still have no fit one. Can anybody suggest me one? And the turbocharger too if you don't mind. This is a very inefficient way to produce electricity. Where are you getting the power to run the compressor? Use that to run the computers. Or use that charge batteries that will run an inverter. Or use a diesel generator. .

Since they have been caught, now they are doing real world tests. Now, let us look at what Europe is doing with automobiles. CLEAN DIESEL. These clean diesels consume far less fuel than gasoline motors of the same size. They are getting quieter, no longer smoke, and are as fast as gasoline cars in some cases. Mrs. Speaker, I challenge you to drive one of these cars and you will be surprised. However, I think the public should decide on whether Global Warming is true or not. I do not want you and a hand full of others control our lives when we vote you in there to work for us.
I'm not going to comment about hydrogen fuel cells, except to say that I think they'll be out of reach (unless and until they solve the platinum problem) but I've owned both a 2003 honda civic hybrid and a 2006 peugeot diesel (1.6 Litre HDi -- not sold in the USA). The diesel got 60 mpg. The hybrid started out at 55 and dropped to 46, even with careful driving. For hilly areas, hybrids are good on the downhill, annoying on the uphill. Diesels on the other hand, are very zippy. Until recently I thought that diesel was go, and that the only problem was that US wasn't mandating for the use of ultra low-sulphur the way that Europe is (see the wikipedia article below) But then I found the Union of Concerned Scientists report, which contains the following information Diesel vehicles can help a car travel 30 to more than 40 percent farther on a gallon of diesel fuel. However, this advantage is only partly due to the higher efficiency of diesel engines, which offer a 15 to 25 percent improvement over gasoline. The remaining increase is due to the fact that diesel fuel contains 13 percent more energy than a gallon of gasoline. so, unless we mandate that ALL new cars be super efficient (whether hybrid-gasoline, hybrid-diesel, plug-in electric, or veggie oil) , the cost factors are going to be very high. I think that, if the priority for ALL new car manufacturers was efficiency, then the economy of scale rule would mean that the retooling costs would be lower, and we could afford to have more highly processed fuel, or different types of engines. Lots to think about!
