- Q: How to clean the gum on the carpet in the fastest and the most clean way?
- Preferred choice is adhesion remover, it will the remove chewing gum with no trace.
- Q: My mother in law is trying to sell the home we currantly live in and needs to put new carpet in and I have heard mixed reviews about it.. I live in a townhouse and there isnt a lot of windows to vent air.. What should I do?
- We too are putting in new vinyl flooring and carpet during my Christmas break from work when I will be about 7 months pregnant. We did laminate in the living room, hall and master bedroom this summer when I was first pregnant and I painted our new master walk-in closet! I think I would be more concerned with the germs and filth lurking in the old carpet than anything from the new carpet! It's not a concern at all! Invisible - it really takes all kinds on here! Some people just can't handle a common sense answer! Edit - I forgot to mention, you may want to use the day the carpet is ripped up as an excuse to go to the spa or shop. Our carpet was ok when we ripped it up (obviously the first owner was an excellent housekeeper) BUT when they ripped up my brothers, there was literally inches of sediment from either dirt, powdered rug fresheners and who knows what else that was even through the underpad. That would not be good to inhale.
- Q: I just spilled coke on the cream colored carpet and just scrubbed it down with a wet wash cloth thoroughly. The problem is that I don't know if it will stain when it dries. How can I get the stain out if it occurs without ruining the carpet. I live in an apartment and don't want any damage.
- hi, i'm gettting this from a surprising e book we've pronounced as Spotless in basic terms all approximately cleansing and stain removing. (gentle drink / sugar stains on carpet) - For previous stains, stick to a pair glycerine to the stain with a cotton ball, and leave for a couple of minutes, then wipe it off with a sponge or textile. Sprinkle bi-carb soda over the stain and scrub it with a nylon brush. Then soak a clean white textile in vinegar, wring it out and place it over the bicarb soda. Stand on the textile so as that it absorbs the bicarb and the stain. you would be able to would desire to repeat this some situations. it could sound fiddly and a discomfort interior the bum technique, yet from my adventure it works. wish it helps.
- Q: ive got a 3 year old welsh cob and he takes his rugs off because he don't like them but i want to know how i could get him used to them.idea's?Thanks
- Leave the rug by him in the stable. When he's used to it you can start putting it on him. Leave it on for a minute when he's tied up outside and then increase the amount of time until he's wearing it for a long time. If he takes it off because it's uncomfortable, you could try getting a different style of rug or a lighter one if it's too hot. Hope this helps!
- Q: How much could it cost me to carpet or laminate my living room, dining room, and up the stairs?
- For decent carpet with good pad, figure about $3 per square foot (installed price). (cheap carpet $2-2.50, high end cpt $4) Laminate comes in many different prices, based on quality. Expect to spend $4.50-5.50 for decent laminate, as low as $3 for the cheap stuff. Buy the best you can afford, you really get what you pay for ESPECIALLY in Laminate. PLEASE, for your own sake, make sure you put in tile landings at the doorways to preserve the life of your laminate floors. Laminate on the stairs is a BAD idea, go with carpet there.
- Q: Can you lay new carpet over old carpet. Because of my age and health it is not possible for me to rip out the old; but I would like to lay down some new to freshen up my computer room.
- Well I wouldn't advise it since all of the lingering oder or stench will come up through the old carpet. I would advise that you strip the old to the bare wood and clean the wood up and then lay the new carpet. If you can not do this have someone do it for you if you can afford it.
- Q: so i accidentally got some nailpolish on my carpet any ideas for how to get it out?
- It is simply amazing how often nail polish makes it onto carpet, or furniture, instead of nails, lol I'm afraid the attitude towards nail polish is entirely too lax... here is why... Carpets these days are made of synthetic fibers.... and when you try to use nail polish remover to remove nail polish, it WILL DAMAGE THE CARPET FIBERS. This results in fibers melting (chemically) or being permanently stained! Nail polish removers often contain Acetone. Acetone is a very harsh and effective chemical stripper -- it will not only damage carpet fibers, but it will also damage vinyl tile, and wood finishes of all sorts. I'm afraid your best bet at this point, is to try to scrape the nail polish out, or have that section of carpet removed, and replaced. A good carpet tech can patch the section for you, but it may still be a noticable patch. Unless you want to make a habit of cutting holes in your carpet, I'd advise a little more care when handling the nail polish, heheheh ;) Good Luck
- Q: Coke spilled on a like colored rug. I try rug cleaner. Both the spray and liquid. It is still pretty dark. Any Suggestions?
- if it a cream or white rug fill your bath up half way with only hot water then once full pour in some thick bleach and leave the rung in the with the water and bleach for about half an hour no longer or you will lose the colouring in the rug but half and hour should be fine and the stain will come right out then just rinse it out and hang on your line to dry i use bleach for alsorts and its always worked for me especially on my 8 month old daughters bibs hope i helped x
- Q: Our house is currently covered in carpet. We have a dog who sheds and has occasional accidents in the carpet. I'm debating whether or not to switch to hardwood floors. I would like to to the floating because of cost. Does anyone have advice? Should I stick it out with carpet? Is wood that much easier?
- Hardsurface flooring would be better to have than carpet especially if you have pets around the house...not only are they earier to clean, they are much more hygenic. Carpets will accumulate dust and promote molds that can cause respiratory problems for the those who live there, and those who come to visit. Since carpet absorbs liquid, the smell of pet's urine won't be that easy to remove from it. I've encountered people who have been trying to get rid of the smell of pet urine even after a month that the carpet has been taken out... it costed them a lot of time, money, and effort jsut to get the bad smell out. The more if uric acid has affected the subfloor (even concrete), you cannot just lay another flooring on top as the smell would still permeate throughout the house. If you are to do a floating hardwood floor, apply a water-proof adhesive (like Bruce Everseal) at the tongue and groove so that even dog pee wouldn't seep through the cracks. Damages will occur if it happens as the liquid will not evaporate, thus the boards can warp. I am unsure how big your pet is but choose floors that are with aluminum oxide finish, they help prevent scratches. There are certain wood floors that are with a high janka rating (or hardness rating) which would be harder to dent as well... mostly are exotics that can be almost 3x as hard as White Oak. It is advisable that you also trim your pet's nails regularly:) Always remember that if you'd plan to re-sell your house in the future, hardwood floors will always increase its value.
- Q: My uncle was given a (real) polar bear rug by a little old lady, and it's vintage. We'd like to sell it, but we have no idea where to start. It's incredibly creepy to have this poor dead thing hanging out in your garage. Is it legal to sell it in the US? It does have some damage, it's missing part of a paw, and the nose is a bit sad looking. Otherwise, it's still soft and life-like.
