- Q:When my carpets are cleaned at first, they are perfectly clean and I have a friend who owns a carpet company who doesn't just steam clean the carpets. After a few months, the same stains seem to re-emerge from where they were before as if they were cleaned on the surface but re-surfaced.I have 2 cats where I have cleaned hairballs, and a lot of throwing up, and I think that's what the stains are from. I use the MIracle stuff for cat stains/odors and it seems to work at first, but again they come up especially in the hallway upstairs. The rest of my my carpets are not bad, even after a year. - I think everyone should invest in a Bissell carpet steamer. They're no more expensive than a vacuum cleaner, and they sure do come in handy for cleaning tough stains in carpets. There's a special Pet Formula detergent they sell (I think Walmart sells it in a generic formula, too), that does a great job of getting up cat stains. It's a lifesaver for me.
- Q:I acquired enough used carpeting (good quality) to redo my whole house,but have no padding. The padding I currently have is 30 years old,as is my current carpet. Also wondering,what is carpet crease?
- I don't know about using carpet without padding and how comfortable it is. But in my house, large rugs (no padding) on top of hardwood floors for years sort of sanded away the sheen on the floors, damaging them. So when I pulled up these big rugs after moving in, the floors underneath which had the same stained finish as the rest of the hardwood was in horrible shape. This was NOT because they had failed to finish the floors under where the rugs had gone (as was the case in some older homes). So, if' you've got hardwood and might want to have it back some day, use padding.

- Go rent a carpet cleaner and buy the largest bottle of carpet soap the store sells. Move all the furniture and clean the carpets according to the directions - it takes a long time but you save alot of money. Use hot water. Once you finish cleaning all the carpets once, go back and reshampoo until you have used up all the soap or else it is time to take the carpet machine back. Those machines work good but they require alot of soap and you have to change the water alot - it is hard, hard work.
