Q:Is it more affordable to buy your own carpet cleaning equipment and clean your own carpets or is it more affordable to hire someone from a carpet cleaning company?
Buy it, because you will be likely to clean your carpet more and your house will stay cleaner. I have a dog and kids, so they track dirt in on feet and shoes and sometimes they spill things so it is very handy to have.
Q:Had sears come out twice to clean the carpet. Its a special carpet that Im keeping but the smell of urine is strong. I have had people out twice using a pet deodorizer on it and steam cleaning it numerous times already? Is there a certain product that I can use or something else because im trying to save this rug. Opinions and advice would be appreciated thank you!(Main issue is getting the smell out of the rug it really stinks bad!)
This rug has had topical cleaning treatments, however, it has not been soaked in enzymes for several hours or overnight, rinsed, dried, and left to air out in the sun. Dogs, and even cats, will pee on wool rugs because they sense another animal in there territory. They will do this numerous times once they start making the cleaning project a real challenge. This rug, if valuable, needs to go to a shop for special treatment, if the pets are still part of the equation, do not place it on the floor or the peeing will start over, guaranteed.
Q:How often is the average for replacing living room or bedroom carpet, I know it depends on the traffic, etc but just wondering averages and when is it time to replace instead of having it cleaned
Carpet when not cleaned won t last but 5/6 years or less if you have a cheaper carpet.. Its suggested that you have it professionally cleaned at least once a year to make it last. Better made carpets when cleaned regularly will last 12/15 years. Sweeping it at least weekly ( manufactures suggest daily but lets be real lol) will extend the life of a carpet greatly. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:There's a shag rug that has been in my basement for 15 years. Now, my basement is unfinished and is a bit damp in the summer but only on the walls. The rug itself is in pretty good shape but it does smell a tad bit damp and gross haha, and the bottom is a little shredded. Is there a way to clean it up so I can use it in my bedroom upstairs?
Talk to a dry cleaner. They will tell you whether or not it's salvageable and how much it will cost.
Q:I recently moved into a duplex in an older house. The apartment is nice enough but I noticed a smell that I could never quite get rid of no matter what I did. It was almost like mildew. For the first time last night I sprinkled carpet fresh on it before vacuuming. It was the Arm and Hammer kind with baking soda plus an quot;island mistquot; scent. I noticed after the island mist smell wore off the other smell was dramatically reduced, so I'm wondering if this funky smell was coming from the carpet the whole time. What kind of bacteria can a carpet harbor?
Hi there, My guess is the smell came from the carpet. Very likely pet urine caused the small. Another source of a smell in a room can be the curtains or overstuffed furniture. Besides pet urine cigarette smoke can linger in curtains and furniture. Probably the bicarbonate of soda and vacuuming will help a lot. Al
Q:This might be a stupid question. But I'm about to buy carpet and I need to know how many sq. feet I need. thanks
First of all measure your room from different angles and buy accordingly
Q:When I first moved into my apartment it reeked like cat urine and the carpets where filthy. I shampooed the carpets using a water and laundry detergent but the carpet still looks bad. I have read about using vinegar and I tried it on one spot but I dont know that I used the right amount because it didnt seem to work. Does anyone have a recipe that will work on very, very, very dirty carpet????

Q:I have a rug imported from Iran. It is made of wool on a silk backing. My cat was sick on it and some of the color ran—vermilion into cream color. It is getting a bit dingy and I would like to get it cleaned. Is there any way to get the pinkinsh stain out of the cream part. It is a beautiful rug.
If the color ran, your rug was probably made with vegetable dyes rather than chemical dyes. Don't try to clean it yourself, you will make it worse! Take it to a cleaner specializing in oriental rugs and talk to the owner, not the counter clerk. It may be dicey, so ensure you use a professional company.
Q:how or what can i use to get the sticky residue off carpet ? previous owners put vinyl tile over carpet which was stupid does anyone know what i can use to get the sticky residue off carpet?? i have goo gone not sure if it would work does anyone know what would work.. that wouldnt take alot to get it off carpet.. seems to be those self adhesive tiles that are on top of carpet.. i'm lifting tiles off but the residue is on carpet making you stick kinda to carpet.. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!! thank you in advance..
My feeling is you'll have to get new carpet. You're basically going to have to saturate the carpet repeatedly with solvent and rub it with old towels to soften and absorb the adhesive. Carpeting has a tendency to 'wick down' moisture, so if you soften the glue it will want to go down further into the carpet rather than wipe off. Depending on the thickness and height of the pile, and how much adhesive is stuck to the fibers, you may be doing a lot of work for nothing. Solvents you can use would include stuff like Goo Gone, however it will take a lot to get the adhesive off, and that will get expensive. You can also use paint thinner or turpentine, but the fumes may be too much unless you can close off the room, and the smell will linger. Either way, you'd best not light a match in that room for a while, and the solvents could also cause the adhesive under the carpet to fail.
