- You just need to pull it up at one corner and keep going. When you get a few feet folded back cut it and roll it up so it is all in manageable sizes. Then take up the padding and do the same. Last step is removing the tack strip along the walls. You'll need some kind of pry bar for that. Be careful not to stick yourself with the spikes.

- Guitar has some very good points on the stain resistance in a carpet but I have to choose a pure nylon carpet for durability. These fibers are treated now with a heat set in texture retention that when properly cleaned the fibers will come back to life and stand back up. These fibers you are walking on the tops of , and this is what you want. Berber , since your walking on the yarn side, has a tendency to matt and crush. Most berbers are also made of an Olefin/ nylon mix. While Olefin is a good stain block by nature, it is a softer yarn. So it boils down to a good stain blocker set into the fiber as its made ( not topically applied ) nylon and a good anti matt/ anti crush warranty. Nothing less than 10 years. Not all stuff will come out of a carpet . The trick is to properly treat spills right away and in a way the manufacturer suggests. Plus the daily vacuuming and at a minimum of once a year a professional , certified carpet cleaner. Mohawk and shaw make some good products. - Q: This rug is on a hardwood floor and I'm not sure how to clean it without taking a chance of doing damage to the floor underneath it. The rug has never been cleaned before. Thanks
- You're not going to be able to clean it with water ... just won't work with the hardwood underneath. Lowe's carries a product called Capture and it's in the tile and flooring department here. It's a powdered rug cleaner product and you use it along with a spray bottle of cleaner. First you mist a section of the carpet lightly. Next sprinkle the Capture powder evenly over that part of the rug using the sifter that comes in the package. Brush it in thoroughly.Continue this way until the entire rug has been cleaned. Let it completely dry for a few hours and vacuum your rug to get the powder out. I have used it on wall to wall carpeting and also on an oriental rug. It costs about $20 - $25 for both the spray and the powder (sold separately). Even though you are lightly spraying the liquid, I still would be very cautious not to get any of it on the hardwood - maybe put layers of newspapers around the edges of your rug. If you have a concrete driveway, I would recommend taking it outdoors on a nice day to clean it. Your only other alternative would be to send it out to a rug cleaning company and that is often mega bucks. Good luck !

- Best kind of carpet, is the type that is easy to clean. My neighbor has very shaggy carpeting, and the result is more bugs, and gunk in the floor, and dirt and stains are hard to remove. Stick away from cotton, wool, polyester, etc. There are specialty carpet stores, check your local listings, also general Bed Bath and Beyond Type home improvement stores have various carpets. For cheap deals try visiting the Flee market or something. Since carpets are personal preference, it is best you feel the texture and stuff in the store for yourself.
- Q: Alright.. so i need to kill fleas that MAY be in my carpet. I havn't seen any hop on me but my kitten has got fleas. I have a 12 month old son also.. that crawls on the carpet and puts anything in sight in his mouth, including his hands that obviously touch the carpet. I am sure SOMEONE has had this conundrum at some point... I am hoping some one can help me with this. What i have done so far, i've washed my precious with baby shampoo and combed the rest out... and so far i haven't seen her itch or any live fleas (she's white so they are evident) but i am sure they have gotten in my carpet in my living room. anything NATURAL or CHEMICAL that is toxic for my cat or baby is out of the question.. thanks for reading. i hope you can help!! :)
- Rigorous vacuuming will be the best approach. Things that may be non-toxic to your baby are not going to be good for your kitten. For instance, boric acid is considered a non-toxic approach, but if it gets on your kitten's paws, and your kitten washes its paws (which it will do), it is toxic. But you can get some boric acid or diatomaceous earth, and suck some up the vacuum after you clean. That will work on any fleas in the bag that may have survived the trip through the vacuum.
- Q: My a/c was leaking and got my carpet wet. I want to make sure if it has some mold that i can treat it so it it wont make anyone sick.
- Carpet usually can't sustain mold or fugus. It has to be somethin in or on the carpet for that to happen. Depending on how wet it got, you might have to pull the carpet back cut the pad out if it got soaked. The pad will act as a sponge keep everything wet thats where you'll run into problems. Take the peice to Home Depot to match it up replace it. Have the carpets professionaly cleaned
