- Q:My roommate used a rug doctor to clean the carpet, she is a complete cleaning novice, and did it while i was at work. She sprayed to much of the cleaning liquid and left us with slightly damp carpet, it now smells. I have been spraying it with febreeze, but it doesn't seem to be helping too much.I was planning a dinner for some friends on friday night, but it's just embarrassing. Is there anyway i can at least minimize the smell by then?
- Ok, is the carpet still wet?? If it is, then get yourself a dehumidifier to dry it out. If it is dry and still smells then there is most likely mold under there. The mold smell will not go away and the worse it is, the worse for your health it is. Have the carpet steam cleaned first, then still get yourself a dehumidifier to dry the carpet this time just to be sure it dries in a timley manor and does not do this again. If after a steam cleaning it still smells... well then the carpet is ruined and will have to be replaced. Good luck.
- Q:I want to buy this shortsale house that has carpet that animals have used the bathroom on. The carpet is not worn and is a very expensive type. I was thinking that if I removed the carpet, set it up on saw horses in the back yard, and cleaned it using a mixture of bleach water and a pressure washer. I would then let it dry completely, spray it down with febreeze and then reinstall it in the house using new padding. Does anyone have any experience doing something like this? I did the same thing to my truck carpet but I know that was probably a little different.
- My favorite method for cleaning carpets involves renting a carpet machine for the weekend, NOT buying the cleaner that they offer, and instead using lemon scented ammonia and plain vinegar with hot water in the cleaning machine. This is a very clean rinsing formula that will cut grime and pet odors without damaging the carpet. New padding is a must but you can clean the carpets and then pull them outside to dry while you replace the padding and mop the underfloor with the sudsy ammonia and vinegar mix. 2 cups ammonia 2 cups vinegar 1 full tank of hot water on the carpet machine Please remember! Keep all bleach and bleaching products away from the ammonia! Once the carpets and floor are dry the ammonia is dispersed and you will not have to worry about a negative chemical reaction in the future.
- Q:Alright.. so i need to kill fleas that MAY be in my carpet. I havn't seen any hop on me but my kitten has got fleas. I have a 12 month old son also.. that crawls on the carpet and puts anything in sight in his mouth, including his hands that obviously touch the carpet. I am sure SOMEONE has had this conundrum at some point... I am hoping some one can help me with this. What i have done so far, i've washed my precious with baby shampoo and combed the rest out... and so far i haven't seen her itch or any live fleas (she's white so they are evident) but i am sure they have gotten in my carpet in my living room. anything NATURAL or CHEMICAL that is toxic for my cat or baby is out of the question.. thanks for reading. i hope you can help!! :)

- Q:Hi I am fairly new to knitting and I am trying to learn how to knit a quot;purl stitchquot; rug out of a book I just purchased. The book doesn't have very good instructions. If anyone has perhaps a youtube video they could share I would love to see it. Please help! :(
- I don't think a purl stitch rug is a standard thing that would have a video. It sounds like a design made specifically for that book. The thing is, there is no need to purl a whole rug when it is generally easier to knit than to purl, and a purl is just the back side of a knit stitch. So you could knit the whole thing in whatever shape you like and just turn it over to have a purl stitch rug.
- Q:ok i got a new throw rug about a month ago and all of a sudden today my cat pissed on. Hes old.the cat it i think he did i for the last week because it was damp but i saw him i know how 2 get rid of the smell but how do i break him of it? and why does he do it?! P.S the carpet does not smell like that new smell
- TAKE HIM TO A VET ASAP -- it could be a urinary blockage (or a urinary tract infection on its way to causing a blockage) and if if is, it can kill him VERY QUICKLY!!! If it turns out to NOT be that, at least you know for sure and can move on to the other possibilities! You say he's old, so it could just be the incontinence of old age. If there's something new going on at the house: new people/children, new pets, new furniture, used furniture that may have another animals scent on it, new room arrangements, etc., in the house that occurred around the time that you suspect he started doing this, then it could be that he's off-center and confused and emotionally distressed. Have you changed to a different litter or a different food. A different litter could upset his nose. A new food could upset his digestive system. BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. Would you be pissed off at a sick friend or relative because they pissed on your new rug?? NO!! You'd be upset about the situation, yes!!...BUT you'd do whatever you could to help that family member or friend!!! So, HELP YOUR CAT!!! HE'S A FAMILY MEMBER!!! Okay, sorry if it looks like I'm shouting, but, I'm not...caps are the only way I know to direct attention to important comments in the absence of being able to use bold and italics. As for the rug, you will need to clean it REALLY well to remove the odor of his urine, or he will return to that spot, even if he's totally well! I have included one or more links below to help you with that! There are some enzyme odor removers, as well, so I have included a link to a webpage that rates several. Just remember, your cat isn't scheming to piss you off. He's either sick or troubled, or simply having problems due to his old age. Best of luck and God bless! Lee

- Q:I recently moved into a new flat and the carpets in the bedrooms are pretty dirty. There seems to be felt tip pen marks and smeared in makeup from the previous owners. The colour of the carpet is light grey.I'll buy new carpets in the future, but I just want them nice and clean seeing as I can't afford new ones at the moment. How can I clean them?
- Ideally they should be professionally cleaned with the markers and make up, both really tough stains. Professionally cleaning really isn't that expensive especially if you can find a coupon from the company for a discount. My question is why isn't the landlord getting involved?
- Q:My sisters cat which we had for about 9 months, unexpectedly urinated on our carpet, twice. Is there a reason for this? Our cat knows where the litter is, so why urinate on the carpet?
- Is she upset? Did you change her litter brand, her food brand, where her food is, how often you feed her [her diet], or did you bring a new animal around her? All of these are factors that could play a part in her urinating on the carpet. My kitten did that for awhile when he was growing up, but it was because I got a new puppy and he was upset about it. After awhile, he stopped. Your cat could also have a bladder infection. That sometimes happens when cats get a little older. Wait about a week, and if it doesn't stop, call your vet. He or she will give you some expert advice on how to deal with this annoying situation!
- Q:My horse lives in a paddock all week round and with the current climate in sydney its hot one day and raining the next. I live in sydney and he lives 2.5 hours away. He is on an agistment property but i only see him on weekends and the people feed him for me. Are there any rugs that you can think of that are breathable but fairly waterproof and would keep him dry in this annoying weather. TThank you so much and also please only answer if you actually have something helpful to contribute.
- I live in Northern NSW- right now we're getting a fair amount more rain than Sydney. It's HORRIBLE and I totally feel you're pain. My advice is to get a fly-mesh rug. (Horseland has them- the saxon brand is really cheap- weatherbeeta is a better quality). It won't keep him dry, but it will keep the bugs off- and it will keep him cool when its hot. When it starts getting colder you should invest in a light waterproof winter rug (maybe 130g polyfill) which will be fine to leave on him all week in winter- and it will keep him dry. Right now all the horses here are in either flymesh rugs or cotton rugs. They don't stay dry- but it keeps them covered and keeps the bugs off. Lets hope this rain stops soon- I'm so sick of it!
