- Rugs serve two purposes: décor and comfort under foot. In a dining area, an area rug should be big enough so that when the chairs are pulled out, they are always on the surface of the rug. It is a general rule that you should leave about 24 of floor space from the wall when figuring the room size rug. This allows for a buffet or a hutch to be placed against the wall, on the floor, not on the rug. I use a rug runner in my front entry-way, instead of a door mat. I have also used rug runners in a hallway and alongside my bed or in front of my dresser as well as my kitchen sink. Runners are versatile. You can add a pop of color to a room with an area rug that fills in floor space around and under a coffee table. Rugs need not be huge, but can be. Rugs can be used to define an area in a large room. Say you have an open concept great room. You can use more than one area rug to define specific areas. Area rugs are often used in high foot traffic spaces to protect the flooring, especially under dining sets where chairs are constantly in motion. Area rugs will last a good long time if you keep them vacuumed and take the time and energy to rotate the rugs at least once a year, so possible sun fading will not be noticeable.

- The issue is and always has been, less about the carpet and more about the padding. Certainly Hundreds of products are sold claiming to reduce or remove stains, and given that most carpet fibers are synthetics, they all may have some moderate success. It may also depend in large measure, on what caused the stain in the first place, and I promise you any WET attempts, no matter Who the PRO Cleaner is, who does the job,,, will leach to the padding. The same can be said for those machines so many rent from the grocery store. The problem will show soon enough, in that the stain, or some of it will appear to be gone from the carpet, but at least some of it will end up in the pad. Then as the carpet fibers will dry first the Moisture in the pad, along with the stain, will leach back up, into the carpet. Many PROS also use a Bonnet technique; similar to dry cleaning clothing. The machine (looking like a floor buffer) is fitted with an absorbent pad. Some chemical substance sprayed from an ordinary spray bottle is applied as the BONNET is then rotated over the stained area, gathering whatever amount is possible, into the Bonnet pad, while keeping a moisture level low so as to NOT allow seeping into the pad. In reality, if you want to keep this forecloser or even FLIP it you should probably pull the carpet, and at the very least replace the pad. You'll notice years of abuse that may not show on the carpet surface. Also to do the WET approach, even Stanley Steamer the likelyhood is that any leached substance/stain will add aromas to the house, when wet, that you might not enjoy, IE: Pet Urine. Steven Wolf

- Obviously nail polish remover, soak up with kitchen towel after and then scrub with a carpet shapmoo. However if it does not work you could cut and glue a patch of carpet into the damaged area from a corner of the room that will not be noticeable.

- Q:We are in the process of evaluating the replacement of carpeting on the top deck of our houseboat. The area is 560 sq. ft. and is glued down. The present carpet suffers from sun rot. 1. In the process of replacement, will we need to strip the old carpet from the surface of the fiberglass? a. What chemical would release the old glu without damage to the Fiberglass. b. - I think that if you use dish detergent in warm water and try to get it on the spots and blot it, repeatedly, you'll get it out. Any degreaser should help. Ball point pen ink is oil based. You could try straight detergent, then rinse/blot with warm clean water.
- Q:how or what can i use to get the sticky residue off carpet ? previous owners put vinyl tile over carpet which was stupid does anyone know what i can use to get the sticky residue off carpet?? i have goo gone not sure if it would work does anyone know what would work.. that wouldnt take alot to get it off carpet.. seems to be those self adhesive tiles that are on top of carpet.. i'm lifting tiles off but the residue is on carpet making you stick kinda to carpet.. - Rent a Rug Doctor from your local Walmart or grocery store. You don't have to buy the cleaning solution, laundry soap and a *little* bit of bleach will get your carpet clean again.
