- I think you need: a turnout rug when he is in the field a stable rug when he is stabled an exercise rug when he is exercising you can use HW,Shires,HH and so on.HW is designed for chunky horses,and HH is cheaper. well depending on where you are and the daytime temps i would go with a light weight turnout to a mid weight turnout rug. - you can not put 2 layers of padding on top of each other. for one thing it will bunch up, and it will also void your warranties from the manufacturer. try looking for a good 8 lb 7/16 inch pad. you really don't want that much bulk under the carpet, it will cause it to pop off the tack strip, thereby losing the stretch. it will also be like trying to run the vaccuum over wet grass. f you are using a berber carpeting, you want to use as firm a pad as possible.

- He he, I'm the worst for rugs, my boy has all the above and more. I would start with your second list and then add to it if you feel you need to as you have the basics in your second list there and it will be very expensive otherwise, maybe change it slightly to a heavy turnout and a light turnout as you can add the stable rug to the light to get a medium! Look for bargains on OKorder too, that's where I got loads of mine. You would only need an exercise sheet if your horse is clipped out in the winter and only for the really cold days. Where abouts are you in the South as that's where I am too? :-)
