- Q: I'm getting new carpet installed in a home I'm selling. It's not a high end home, just a 1700 sq foot house that I'll list for $400k. The carpet the carpetman recommended to me is a shaw 18 oz face weight, 48 total weight carpet. To go along with it is 7/16quot; 6lb padding. Is this good enough? Will it look and feel nice enough for the people who come to see the house?
- 18 oz face weight is about the lowest face weight you can buy. I sell this for rental units, and budget builder homes. It is not FHA approved. In most areas a $400,000 home will be expected to have a better carpet. In most areas this sells for $1.8 to 2.1 a sq ft installed with the 7/16 6 lb pad. Better to go for a 24 oz to 30 oz carpet for about $2.50 or so sq ft complete. Price will be less if you take up the old carpet pad.
- Q: Ive moved into a new place .... the Carpets are vile ! can anyone recommend a good carpet shampoo for the use in an industrial rented machine. Also if you guys have any tips on carpet shampooing that would be great also !!!thanks !!!

- Q: they used to use the litter box just fine and never had prob. but now the pee on rugs and poop here and there
- Clean the rugs really really well and use a deodorizer on them. With my cat that started doing this I use oxyclean to clean it up and then zero odor to remove any lingering smells. Then, I had to make sure that the litter box was clean constantly! The 'rule' for cats and litter boxes is that have one litter box for each cat plus one. So, we have two cats, so we have three litter boxes. Keep them in different areas of the home. You can also try different litters, some have deodorizers in them and work better than others. Hope this helps!
- Q: I have a light weight rug on top of a thick wall to wall carpet? I have tried to use padding made for this purpose but it does not work. The rug continues o bunch up and not lay flat.Thanks
- I had a rug like this, too..if I left it a week it would move 2 feet sideways. I think it is partly from static between the different materials in the two, and partly the longer tufts of the bottom carpet act as fingers to keep shifting the top one. That sticky rubbery underlay stuff only works on smooth hard floors. I've gone desperate and put long tacks into the corners of the rug, through to the floor. If you use large head ones they are easy to find and pull out sometimes, to vacuum under.

- Here is a site that I would highly recommend. They have very high quality stain removal techniques. I would suggest repeating the process after the first application, and rinsing the rug out with cool water in between applications. Best of luck!
- Q: I have a Rainbow vacuum (which, in my opinion, is the best vacuum EVER). However, I've noticed that no matter how many times I vaccum my carpet (which is only about 5 months old) the water is always disgusting and dirty. Even if I vacuum 4 times in a row, changing the water in my vacuum each time, the water never gets clear. My friends have said that is what happens to carpets, that the dirt just never really comes all the way out. Is this true, or is it time for a new vacuum?

- Without doubt it must be shampooed first as K M has already said. The reason is also the same, that carpets do in fact lose their shape due to shrinking , etc and then when you get it stretched, the stretcher will get it into a perfect rectangle.
- Q: I am looking for a reasonably priced Persian rug. I have searched on craigslist but can't find anything. I am located in the Bay Area, and would like to know if anyone knows a cool place to find new or used Persian rugs?

- Q: Can regular liquid laundy detergent be used in a carpet cleaning machine?
- Nooooooooooo!!! You don't want anything that will make suds!!! Will clog and ruin the machine. Walmart makes a cleaning solutioncosts $12, is twice the size of the Bissell one and is called Pet and Odor Control. Works just as great as Bissell one...I've used it. Another idea: try using a bit of Oxyclean combined with a tiny bit of liquid Febreze (for fragrance). Shake it in the container to make sure it doesn't produce a lot of suds. Another idea: vinegar and baking soda solution mixed together (vinegar to disinfect and clean, same goes for baking soda).Personally, I hate the smell of vinegar (even though the smell dissipates as it dries...but yuck). Do NOT use those spray on foam cleaner solutions on the carpet either. Remember you also have the option of using the hot water rinse (if you have the Pro2X model). Remember not to saturate any area when using....small sections and get moisture out as you go. Then just when carpet is dry...use your vacuum to fluff up the fibers...carpet will come out soft.
