- Q:I acquired enough used carpeting (good quality) to redo my whole house,but have no padding. The padding I currently have is 30 years old,as is my current carpet. Also wondering,what is carpet crease?
- I don't know about using carpet without padding and how comfortable it is. But in my house, large rugs (no padding) on top of hardwood floors for years sort of sanded away the sheen on the floors, damaging them. So when I pulled up these big rugs after moving in, the floors underneath which had the same stained finish as the rest of the hardwood was in horrible shape. This was NOT because they had failed to finish the floors under where the rugs had gone (as was the case in some older homes). So, if' you've got hardwood and might want to have it back some day, use padding.
- Q:My husband and I just moved into yet another rental. The carpet is decent; it's a little stained, but VERY worn in high traffic areas. We have tried everything from having them professionally cleaned to cleaning each inch with a toothbrush (a trick my local flooring salesman gave to make the carpet fibers separate and puff back up). - Area rugs are your ONLY choice. I am a landlord and in the few carpeted units I have (most of mine have ceramic tile floors), I also will not let tenants mess with the carpets...if they do, I'll take it out of their deposit when they move out. Your furniture is not the cause of your carpets scrunching up, YOU are. When you walk or move around, the carpet beneath is moved and because the top carpet is not anchored to it, it shifts around. Try a small area rug in a high traffic area...get some velcro strips, the hook side, and using some fabric glue, glue the strips to the back of the area rug...make sure you put a big patch in the middle. Now put the rug down so that the velcro hooks grab the carpet beneath. Now, let it stay there for a few days and see if there is any scrunching...if there is, add some more velcro to the underside of the rug OPPOSITE the scrunch, because the carpet is moving from that direction. If you can make this work on a small rug, you should be able to make it work on larger ones. I have used it in rentals to fix a mat to the carpet just inside the door to minimize soil.. ed fine.

- Try okorder for home solutions to remove soda stains from white carpet. You may already have something at home that will work. Be careful on other carpet stain removers because some contain bleach and could ruin your carpet. Good luck!
- Q:Hi everyone, I have a encolsed porch that i am redoing and the exsiting floor is wood and is painted so i just repainted it well i was thinking about painting a rug onto the floor just to add a little something different and special to the room. I am having a hard time finding any informatiot on it. - I'm about to do something similar to this on my dining room wood floor. I'm picking up some ivy stencils, taping and staining a large rectangle to simulate a carpet edge and stenciling the ivy in gel stains (3 different colors) along the carpet edge.

- Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) is great for absorbing odours. Sprinkle on the rug (the reverse as well as the front if necessary) leave for a couple of hours and vacuum off. You can also put a few drops of your favourite essential oil onto the rug to freshen up the smell. Also, as daft as it sounds, to get rid of chemical smells from the room itself such as glue, paint etc peel an onion, chop it in half and cover it with water, leave it in the room overnight and it will absorb the smell (don't ask me why this works but it does!) Hope this helps!

- Look, it depends on carpet cleaning method! If you clean your carpet with shampoo carpet cleaner then it will get dirty quickly, cause foam that is left on the carpet attracts soil and dust.

- Depending on how big your house is, it can take about half a day to steam clean wall to wall carpeting. Most companies will be able to work around furniture, but obviously it's better if you can move as much furniture as possible so that the cleaners can clean as much carpet as possible. You'll want to open up your windows after the carpet cleaning has been done to air out your rooms (and with this heat, to quicken up the drying time). If you are talking about cleaning hand made rugs, then cleaning is done off site and you generally have to wait 2-3 weeks for the professional cleaners to return your carpet.

- Q:Has anyone ever tried using oxyclean or any other cleaner that would work good or produce the same results as with the Rug Doctor cleaners?
- Problem being! Most rug cleaning machines can't handle sud's. If oxyclean sud's up it can destroy the machine. I don't know about mixing them...I have...used Downy in those machines to soften my rug and get rid of static.
