What I did: Go to a pet supply store or some large grocery store chains have a big pet section and get 2-3 of those CARDBOARD SCRATCH POSTS/BOXES. And get a bag of loose cat nip. Bring home your boxes and put one in your room, one in the living room, one in a 3rd room, and sprinkle them with a little cat nip. Show your cat how to scratch it by putting her paws on the box and doing a scraping motion with her paws. And she will fall in love with the scratch boxes and you will have good carpet. Worked for me!!! My cats never scratch the carpet now.
