I would be afraid to use Windex because it contains ammonia and ammonia can permanently discolor the carpet. If you have any kind of shaving cream, spray that on the stain, wait, and blot up, see if that helps. If it doesn't, I would make sure that when I rented the Rug Doctor, I'd also purchase a bottle of their Rug Doctor spot remover. Q: I am just starting to get back into horses again after about 5 years and at the moment i am looking after a friends horse while she is away on holiday.. feeding them etc.one of her hoses has an unwaterproof rug. Its uncomfortable for a horse. You know the feeling of having wet clothes on- it's not nice! 2. The water can't evaporate- this can cause skin infections and a build up of bacteria. Rain scald is a big problem! If it's not that cold- and you can't put on the waterproof on without the other rug- just let the horse go without a rug until you've dried the under coat. Well, that's what I would do anyway!

Q: How the heck can I get pet hair out of a flokati rug (1.5 inch wool shag)? Please Help!: Here are a couple ideas, try them each as they are probably all stuff you have readily available to you! 1. While wearing rubber gloves, wipe the rug and see the hair form little rolls you can then pull off easily. 2. Dampen a sponge and wipe the rug gently and again, see the hair form little rolls you can pick off. 3. Using a used dryer sheet, wipe the rug and pull off the clumps of hair that accumulate. Q: My dog ripped up the rug and I was wondering if I could sew it back together or stitch it or something. Is that possible?He's ripped it up pretty good, the tears are 2-5 inches long, and half an inch wide at the most. Any help is greatly appreciated!Thanks in advance.: Is this rug like a throw rug or is it like carpet? Either way you can sew them. If it is carpet, attached to the floor, then cut a small piece from behind a door or inside of a closet. Use that to replace the damaged part by sewing it in. You can make a carpet needle by holding a large needle over the flame on your stove using a pair of pliers. With a second pair of pliers bend the needle into a half circle. Let it cool before touching it of course. Then just sew the piece into the damaged area. I've had to do that many a time with my puppies.

Q: The ones with the rubber underneath. It doesn't say on the tag. Can you wash them in the washer and dryer? Or will it melt in the dryer?: Wash in cold water. Air dry. The rubber will melt in the dryer. Over time, the rubber will flake off from being put in the washer, but it will work. Or, if you have access to a carpet shampooer, that would work too.

Q: How can I clean my carpet really well without using a steamer/shampooer? There's no stains on it and I vacuum regularly, but when my baby starts crawling i don't want a nasty germy, oil/dirt infested, carpet. What products are good?: You're going to have to rent a carpet-cleaner machine from your local grocery if you want to get your carpet really clean - it's really no big deal, and dries pretty quickly. If you're worried about the chemicals in the shampoos and cleaners that you are supposed to buy for the machine, you can always just use hot water and white vinegar instead of the bottled carpet-shampoo. Vinegar kills as much bacteria as antibacterial soap does - the only draw-back is that everything will smell like vinegar for a while. Whatever you do, don't use any of those powders that you shake over the carpet and then vacuum up - not good for crawling babies, as the powder residue can get on their toys or hands, which then put in their mouths. If you're just looking to kill surface germs, you can put vinegar and water in a spray-bottle and spritz the carpet with that, though renting a machine will get it really clean.

However we just found out that the carpet is GLUED down and therefore a much bigger project to remove it than we once thought. In a short time there will be pockets or puffed up parts. remove the carpet and install lauan plywood properly nailed. Over this you need a sealer mastic for cracks and such. The vinyl will last a life time with out cracks and such. Tough pulling up the carpet, it should be pretty good under this. There are some chemicals to help with the glue. After the floor could be covered with the fake wood tiles. It uses a floating foam cover to help with any problems below. Cost less than vinyl and prep.
