Q: i want to re carpet my bedrooms, where could i find carpet besides a carpet shop?: Cassy, if you want new carpet then you will have to go to a carpet store. Some of the larger companies have end of line run out sales for carpets that they are replacing with a new pattern or colour so it's always worth asking, you might get last years carpet at a bargain. You could also look at some auction houses for carpet bargains. If you are okay with second hand carpet then have a look at some of the trader newspapers, we have trading post here in Melbourne and they are online too, Australia wide I think on the net. Some people will sell their old carpet when replacing it so check around. Also, you could contact some carpet installers because they are always ripping out old carpet when laying down new stuff. Ask them what they do with the carpet they are getting rid of. They might onsell it somewhere if it's in good shape. You can always jump on line and google 'second hand carpet'. I got a few hits when I did this so you might find something in your area.

Q: I have a 1 yr old Male, fixed, cat. He's never given me ANY problems. except lately he's been urinating on the bathroom rug.. Q: I had the rug from work about a year ago so its pretty old but every time i go to hoover its got a large amount of white powder under it! i have no idea what it is at first i had the gross idea that it was bits of skin but there is no way that much could accumilate in such a short timewhat is it and can i get rid of it: There are pretty much three things it could be.... 1 - Powder - There are several cleaning products that are on the market today that people sprinkle on the rug so that it smells good - every time you vacuum more will come out till it is all gone. 2 - Dust - If it is an old rug then there is a good chance that it is simply dust. 3 - Fibers - If the rug is not in good condition then sometimes the fibers break apart and fall out when you vacuum but this is most common with old silk rugs. If you think it is one of the top two then simply turn over the rug and slowly vacuum the from the back (make sure to use a vacuum with bristles). The vibrations will cause whatever is in the rug to fall out. After you are done - turn the rug over and vaccume the front side, collect the dust from the floor and repeat the process till almost all the white powder is gone. Hope I was helpful :)

Reptile carpet is good for if they are sick, but look at the bark or the jungle bedding. Those will do better if it is small or young. Typically they are about 7.99 - 14.99 depending on how much you get.

Also, if you are going to run carpet, make sure it is somewhere where it will never be stained or exposed to food, otherwise you are wasting your money. A roll of vinyl, using some covebase would be fine for a kitchen or bath. Carpet is for living rooms/parlors and bed rooms. Dining rooms and hallways do well with wood or floating laminate floors with a wood finish. During the winter, in colder climates, you need to purchase a nice rug (I prefer Persian, but whatever). to put under the table and you need runners in the hallway.

Q: We bought our house 2 months ago. We didn't mind the carpet. It is very nice carpet. However, the house was built in 1955 and has origional hardwood floors under the carpet. Here is the problem... it looks like there are hardwoods, a new sub floor and the carpet. My concern is that removing the sub floor will ruin the floors under. What has your expirance been?: After having just removed the carpeting in my house, I can tell you this: if they put a subfloor on top of hardwood, there was something wrong with the hardwood. It is not necessary in order to lay carpet. Padding and tack boards are all that are needed--which really don't ruin the hardwood. (You may want to fill a few nail holes from the tack strips.) Lots of houses have hardwood that is only finished around the edges--if you pull up the subfloor and find unfinished board flooring, that's one reason they laid the subfloor. Another reason might be that there was bad damage to the hardwood which made it uneven. A finished hardwood floor rarely needs subfloor for carpeting unless it is damaged or otherwise totally unusable as hardwood flooring. Since your house was built in 1955, it could have very badly damaged floors. There is only one way to check that--pull up the carpet in a corner, and the subfloor under that--and check. If the floors are not damaged, then the only damage will be from nail holes--which can be filled, sanded and revarnished.

Q: it has a big yellow spot on the carpet now..: Of the three previous answers, I'd go with the Rit dye. Just make sure you dilute it well, and apply a small amount at first to see the results. Apply a second, or third coat if necessary to get the desired color. Also, you could try blending it out into the carpet that was not ruined for a cleaner blend between the two. Good luck!
