Q:I acquired enough used carpeting (good quality) to redo my whole house, but have no padding. The padding I currently have is 30 years old,as is my current carpet. Also wondering, what is carpet crease?
A carpet crease is caused by folding carpet and leaving it folded for a period of time. This may be corrected by stretching over a wood surface, such as plywood, nailing the edges. Shampooing will then help, as it dries. Stretching during installation also helps. As to installing without padding, it can be done, but it will not be a totally satisfactory installation. The tack strip along the wall is approximately 1/4 in thickness and when the carpet is attached to the strip, it acts as though the carpet is suspended across the floor. This is not totally accurate because one is standing on the carpet, preventing suspension. The result is that as it is walked upon, the carpet tends to sag at the tack strip and will become loose. Bear in mind, on installation, that if used carpet has to be cut and seamed onto cuts from another piece, or if one side of the carpet is seamed to another side, there may be a color difference. Think of a side at any wall, which gets no traffic or wear, then seaming that side to any other that may have a traffic pattern or is worn. This can be worked out to the best possible layout by an experienced installer but it does need to be considered. I doubt that 30 yr. old pad is worth using. I know of what material most of that padding was made. In most cases padding today is better quality. You will find that installation labor is higher on used carpet. Don't use cheapest labor. It will show up.
Q:that moves constantly. I'm forever pulling and tugging on it to keep it flat and straight. The rug is located in my living room with a coffee table on it. What can I do, if anything, to prevent this thing from moving around on mesignedtired of tugging. :-)
home depot, spray stick.it will not stick to the floor.it will prevent it from moving.good luck.
Q:So, im trying to make a little ramp for summer skiing. I need to know what i should use(ex. carpet (type?))
I went to a store in Nashville that had one of those carpet things to try out equipment on. They were using a low pile berber. Like the first guy said go to the carpet store. They might have a remnant you could get a good discount on.
Q:The new carpet smells great. How do you clean it?
Remove the baking soda from the new carpet with a vacuum cleaner. Finally empty the vacuum cleaner's garbage can.If it still tastes good, you can reuse baking soda several times. If you can't find any sodium bicarbonate, you can also use white vinegar instead.
Q:Normal household carpet. NOT industrial carpet. Per square foot.
it varies..depends on the quality of the carpet...use google !
Q:Funny but its stained red! How can i get it out of the carpet.
Fill a quart jar with a cup of ammonia, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup vinegar and the rest can either use more ammonia or fill with water. I use more ammonia on tough stains and maybe because of the red color more would be better. Dampen some cleaning rags with the mixture and rub into or spray into the areas to be cleaned. When you've got it all then rinse with plain water or a little vinegar. You can also use a soft bristle brush to work it out and then rinse. maybe some of it is still there and it might have to be done twice to completely remove it all. Good Luck. Take an old towel to dry it somewhat and just put the towel on the floor and walk on it zig zaggy.
Q:How to do if there is instant noodles soup on the carpet?
1. daily maintenance: Hair and fiber on the surface of carpet can be cleaned by brush and adhensive plaster in daily life. 2. the recovery under the heavy load: The carpet is not easy to restore under furniture's weight. You can lay wet towel on the depression of the carpet, steam from the top with electric iron, then dry it with a hair dryer. 3. handling of emergency situations: If there are spilled drinks or stained stains on the carpet, the most effective remedial method is immediately handling. With a dry cloth or paper to absorb water (do not scrub), with diluted and mild detergent (neutral or cold dish detergent washing ) to daub a little on parts, again with dry cloth to wipe clean. Do not use detergent with chlorine and bleaching water. 4. handling of unknown conditions: You can wipe dirt with alcohol firstly, when it is dry, brush off the dirt with a soft brush. Hot water with lemon pieces is also effective. 5.the use of skid resistent pad : A thin or small carpet, unless laid by the furniture, it is often easy to slide.
Q:I need to replace my 45 year old carpet. It is showing it's age. But one thing that has never been done is having it re stretched. Not one wrinkle. It lays as flat and tight as the day it was put in. So this beings up the question. quot;Should a properly installed wall to wall carpet ever need to be re stretched?quot; I have noticed many carpets in newer homes that are all wrinkled. And many people I've talked with after installing carpet need to have it stretched again, sometimes more then twice. Is this an inherent problem with what the carpets are made of now days? By the way my carpet is wool.
As your 1 st poster stated, even the best of carpet or the best of installed carpet could possible need a restretch. Its rare but it does happen. You had a good carpet in wool and the backing when that was made is much different than the ones made today. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. gL
Q:What color of the carpet looks good with blue floral tile?
It depends on your personal interests. After all each person's preferences are not the same.
Q:I have a beige carpet that is in need of a good cleaning.I'm looking along the lines of a product that I can spray on, leave vacuum up does a excellent job at eliminating odors/dirt.I am overwhelmed with the amount of products, not to mention I don't want to spend $20 on a product when I could get the job done with spending $6....thank you!
This product is really for spot cleaning but the best thing I have found is a el cheapo aerosol spray cleaner, I think it's actually a generic knockoff of Resolve, it's $1 a can and I think I've only found it at Dollar General stores. It works really well and it's only $1, it's in a red can. If the whole thing needs cleaning I would use this spot cleaner first and then rent a steam cleaner. You can rent them from WinnDixie for about $40 and then the solution is extra, depending on what you want/need. I've just used the basic solution and it works pretty well but I would def spot clean first.
