- Q: I have a large square area rug (12x16ish), it has different colored (brown, blue, burgundy, tan, etc.) squares all over it. It got left out side in the weather most of the winter. If I were to dry it out and clean it could I do anything to make it nicer? Like, could I paint it or something? I put it outside in the first place because it was starting to get thin in spots and some of it was faded. t had to be vacuumed all the time because it was like colored dry rotted thread dust was coming off of it. I was wondering if anyone could come up with some last resort ideas before I take it to the dump. I'm not really sure if it could be painted because its like carpet???? but is there a type of vacuum-able fabric or something I could glue to it or any ideas like that?
- sounds like the rug is pretty much worn out, I think the only thing you could do would be to make small door mats from the areas that are still somewhat in good shape and throw the rest away. Once a material has become so degraded as you describe, there is is no way to save it, plus it only makes cleaning and maintenance more difficult because it is constantly falling apart right under your feet.
- Q: I do not want to get a cheap carpet. Is $30 a sq yard above average or expensive?
- $30 seems high to me but it may be a superior carpet. Think about the padding also. Even a cheaper carpet will feel plush with the more expensive padding under it.
- Q: Someone told me that decorators have a general rule for the size area rug you need for a room. It is something about a certain number of feet of exposed floor around the perimeter of a room. Does anyone know about this? Thanks.
- it depends on what else is in the room but i would go with a 6x8 if it is going to be a dinning room.

- The carpet has a very small T in layering, tile edge, careful worker, and then came the carpet the carpet is pressed into the T bar, also should be careful to do, just to cut the carpet, because the note is very small, cut a little bit will be exposed.
- Q: My mother recently passed away. I had prepaid her rent for a full year. The bedroom had several stains on it and I recognize the carpet needed to be replaced, and I'm OK with paying for it. The bedroom is around 200 square feet in Connecticut. The landlord took the opportunity to replace the carpet with hardwood. He told me the carpet would have cost $600 installed but he paid extra for the hardwood out of his own pocket. The carpet that was there previously was the cheapest contractor grade material you can imagine. I have a hard time believing it cost $600 at $3 a square foot for cheap carpet installed. Should I be pressing this? I figured it would be $300 - $400, max, for similar off-white basic carpet.
- What does your lease say about late fees? Is the $150 for several times you were late or just one time? Look up your state landlord-tentn law and see if that is legal. You should get things clear before you move in. If you are renting a house I would think you have to put your own trash out.

- I love my carpet have had it about 4 years.. its made of recycled plastic milk cartons, according to my carpet dealer they are all making this type of carpet now, but mine was from Mohawk. There are certain letters on it I think its PET, ask your carpet dealer. It will not stain at all.. I really don't see any traffic marks and part of the carpet is in an area between 2 doorways that gets a lot of traffic. It looks like a normal wool/ polyester carpet it feels just as soft but has great durability, I highly recommend it! The other type I would recommend is berber.. its not as soft.. and if you have pets it wouldn't work like my carpet(cats like to scratch on it and it will stain) but it won't show a traffic pattern its very strong and used in more office settings than homes.
- Q: Our cat pees on our rug and we don`t know why. The main part is we can`t get the smell of the rug. We have this huge piece of tinfoil and it says that he would be scared of it and not even walk on it but he walks right over and starts biting at it. Now that the tinfoil is there he won`t pee on the tinfoil but he finds a new spot on the rug. We spray this stuff on the rug that we got from our vet but it would take like 10 bottles of it to take the pee smell off. Is there anything that you tried that takes up smell our anything you think is good to use? We are thinking off letting him be an outdoor cat so he will pee out there but we are not sure. We also have a we also have one of those squirt bottles that we filled up with water so if we catch him then we can squirt him. But we still need help!
- If your cat isnt using the litterbox or cant seem to hold its urine to get to the litterbox in time than I think seeing a vet is necessary to rule out any medical issues like urinary tract infection. If your cat is not fixed that could be the other reason, so as long as your cat is healthy enough getting fixed should solve that issue.
- Q: It seems like my hardwood floors are dull where my area rugs are. Is there any way to prevent them from permanently damaging my floors?
- Actually, no. And to boot, the color of the hardwood will change underneath the rug after time.... it's never a good idea to put area rugs on hardwood flooring.... sorry.
- Q: i have two cats thats hate being locked out of my room and when they are they scratch at the carpet so now there is a bald spot under the door.is there any way i can fix this without replacing the carpet on the whole floor?
- It is possible to cut out a piece of the carpet and replace it with a piece taken from a closet or something. Or you might have been smart and saved some leftover scraps when it was installed. However, it has to be carfully done and still might show since it may be faded more that the patch. to do the job you would have to by seam tape, and rent a seam iron. cut the patch to fit exactly in the spot you cut out, put seam tape under it and use the iron to melt the glue on the tape. You may also have to stretch the carpet and refasten in the doorway to get out any wrinkles. If you've never worked with carpet, you're probably better to hire it done, but it still would be cheaper than a whole new carpet
